little to no insulation
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times

- Medium
they look nice, but there is little to no insulation in these, so would not recommend for cold conditions. They look good, but the function is poor and not worth the money.

Fits a little snug especially with glove liners. Primary use is skiing but have used when building out door rink with fire hoses. love the leashes to go around wrist. Biggest complain is that the liner inside is not sewn in, and so if not careful when pulling hand out it pulls out them or fingers section, and can get stuck when putting back on. This is something that i think would be good to be addressed in future. Overall solid mitten for skiing

Great fit, but cold
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
This is my second season using these mittens (resort, 20+ days a year). I like the fit and how the look. Seems durable too. the only problem is they are not warm enough on cold days.

Backcountry Goretex snow mitten review
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Purchased Men's size Large, hand is 229mm around measured at V of thumb across palm and back of hand with Tape measure, coffee color. Run true to size, liked the cuff really well with bulky ski jacket. Nice keeper straps with elastic. I don't tighten my mittens so I can't speak to the elastic cord. Unfortunately, I'll be returning after just three days of use. The first two days, in colder 20's fahrenheit my fingers were marginally cold if not cold. Third day it was warm skiing 34 degrees and wet and my hand got wet and I mean very wet. I did not remove my mittens they just didn't stay dry. The insulation is also very "dense" feeling. I think this would be an acceptable product, but I'm used to backcountry branded gear being exceptional, not just acceptable. I'll be returning and dropping more coin to have Hestra's again, which have treated me very well for years. If it's any interest, I'm replacing brand new Dakine mittens because they wouldn't get a one star in my opinion. the cuff is all WHACKY, so maybe I'm just a very picky person??, Sorry Backcountry. I'll try again later.

They are super warm no need to wear liner gloves under them. The only thing is I feel like they got stretched out after the first wear so maybe size down

Great Style and Feel

Picked up a pair of these gloves for the coming season. I haven't got to get out on the mountain with them too much yet but they feel great and are packed with features. First off, they look great. I got the pika/black color and they couldn't look more clean. They feel great when you put them on, the liner is super soft and they're toasty. I got the medium size and the gauntlet comes halfway up my forearm, there's a strap around your wrist you can tighten and a pull cord at the end of the gauntlet that you can tighten too, both are easy to operate with the mittens on. My favorite little detail is the loops that are at the top of the mitten, so you can hang them with the opening facing downwards and really let them dry out after a long day.

Great style/function, durability suspect

These mittens look, feel, and fit great. The gauntlet style is easy to pull on and off, and the wrist strap and drawcord allow for a customized fit. I used these in conjunction with a pair of Burton Touchscreen liners and my hands stayed dry and warm all day on the mountain. The leashes are comfortable and unobtrusive so you never have to worry about losing them when taking them off. My biggest complaint and cause for concern is the goatskin for the fingertip portion of the mitten is very thin. In my first time using them on some groomers with mild ice, the leather is already torn/ripped. For the price point, I expected better durability out of these.

Purchased these on S&C at a pretty decent discount and I?m still disappointed. The leather is much thinner than previous mittens I?ve used at a similar (full) price point. I?m betting they won?t hold up to a season of my resort riding (30-40 days at Wolf Creek), already signs of breakdown over the palm/fingers after 3 sessions. The insulation is really thin too. My first day out with them was a blue bird, just below freezing and while my hands weren?t cold, they also weren?t warm. Last weekend with active wind and snow and temps in the 10-15F range my thumbs went numb in 2 hours, which has never happened with previous (similarly priced) mitts, even on colder days. Last negative is the (plastic) membrane in the glove that I?m assuming is the Gore Tex, it makes it sound like you are wearing plastic bags under the mitt. The good? My brown and black variety looks sweet, and they have the right wrist and cuff straps to keep powder out as well as a wrist leash. I?ll call this a swing and a miss by Backcountry unless you are using on warm, sunny days.
