Can't Bring Myself to Size Up

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: 38x32
    • Height: 6'4"
    • Weight: 228lbs

Lost 46 pounds in the last 6 months after 2 knee replacements and I'm now in a 38 waist in Prana, North Face, Marmot, Jack Wolfskin, and Gap Slim Fit. (Yeah, I know 38 ain't slim. You're very funny.). Couldn't get these past my thighs. Felt like great pants construction-wise but after years of wearing actual 40+ waist sizes I'm taking a stand. The quality warrants 4-5 stars, but the waaaaayyyy off sizing drops it to 3.

    These are my favorite pants

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Size Bought: 32
    • Height: 6'0"
    • Weight: 165lbs

Title says it all, these are my absolute favorite pants. Good for hiking, doing chores around the house, relaxing, you name it. The only thing they are not good for is travel (you will get a pat down every time because of the zipper).

    Way too small

    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: 30x32
    • Height: 5'10"
    • Weight: 155lbs

I'd gotten these for my boyfriend who weighs 30 pounds more than me, but I could barely fit into them myself. I held them up against a pair of 30x30's that fit him perfectly and the Backcountry pair was much smaller around the waist, and about the same length. The material seemed pretty nice, but the pair I received seemed like it had been worn a few times and didn't have any tags to indicate that it was actually new.

    Way too small

    Hey Heidi,

Thanks for taking the time to write this review! I'm sorry the sizing was so off on this pair. I'm sending you an email to get an exchange set up. I do want you to know here that we don't tag any of our Backcountry products to reduce environmental waste in our production cycle.

    Perfect for Travel & Camping

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: 30x32
    • Height: 5'7"
    • Weight: 143lbs

These are so sweet! I love them for travel, camping, and long weekends skiing out of the van when I don't want to be in tech gear and prefer something a bit more relaxing. The materials are soft, but durable, so you don't have to be worried about them ripping. The cut is narrow and stylish. Less break-in time compared to a Carhartt pant, which is great! Only reason they didn't get a 5 star review was they are a bit long. I'd love to see some 30x30, 32x30 etc options.

    Super soft & comfortable pants.

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: 38 X 32
    • Height: 6'3"
    • Weight: 240lbs

I bought these Backcountry pants for my husband and he really likes how soft & comfortable they are. We returned them to size up since he has extremely muscular legs.

    Sizing confusion!

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: 33x32
    • Height: 5'10"
    • Weight: 175lbs

Reading through the reviews I sized up from my typical 32x32 to 33x32 but when they arrived they seemed to fit well but just a couple hours into wearing them I could sense their stretchiness stretching (expected for most jeans certainly but perhaps more relevant here) and that they would not be the slim fitting jeans I was looking for. One thought - as these are mostly cotton would a run through the wash do me some good? Or do I just need to size down?Looking for thoughts/help here! Oh and the pants are great otherwise...super soft and comfy.

Hey Nathanial! Thanks for writing the review. I think that if you're interested in a slimmer fit you should size down. The fabric is pre-shrunk so washing them will restore the slight stretch out during wear but not shrink the size. The cut is quite modern and slim and I think some reviewers expect them to fit a bit loser out of the box so to speak. The 32 might be a bit snug when you first put them on but you should like the fit after a good lunge :)

    Nice pants

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 32x32
    • Height: 5'8"
    • Weight: 150lbs

I gave these as a gift but have feedback to share.

Stylish pants with just enough stretch to make them comfortable for active things, such as bouldering. I still can’t dunk in them, but it is probably more a factor of me being 5’8”, and not so much the fault of the pant.

    Great Pants

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Height: 5'7"
    • Weight: 165lbs

Bought these as a gift for my father and he loves them. He said the fit is great and the bit of stretch makes for a very comfortable pair of pants. They have a nice casual look to them as well so they can be worn for all kinds of situations.

    Very small!

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: 30 X 32
    • Height: 5'10"
    • Weight: 170lbs

I had to send these back because they were extremely tight. They seemed like they were really good quality and everything but I couldn’t get them on at all. I normally wear a 30 inch waist in jeans and I couldn’t even get them around my waist. If you’re skinny then they’ll probably great. But if you’re an athletic guy they won’t fit at all

    Incredible

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 32X32
    • Height: 5'11"
    • Weight: 155lbs

These pants are incredibly soft. When ordering these I was expecting a standard slightly itchy denim but when I got them before even washing them I realized how soft they were. The waist is also stretchier than I expected it fights just right and is not constricting at all. the thighs are just the right size not to big or small overall I love this item!

    Durable and look good!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 33x32
    • Height: 6'0"
    • Weight: 180lbs

Really like these pants! Although others have had to size up, they ran fairly true to size for me. Im usually a 32 or 33, and ended up going with a 33 and they fit great. Not totally in love with the zippered pocket on these, kind of a weird spot for a pocket, but doesnt get in the way or anything. Overall these things are pretty bomber!

    Wardrobe Killer

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: 33x32
    • Height: 5'7"
    • Weight: 135lbs

Well, time to buy a few of these and donate the rest of my pants! Seriously comfortable and great fit. I wore these for almost a week straight on a road trip from Utah through Nevada, Oregon, Washington, and Idaho. They held up well for everything from hiking to rock climbing to hiking and relaxing. The 3% spandex adds a nice flexibility to the softness of the cotton. After checking reviews for sizing, I went up to a 33x32. I normally wear 30 or 31, so I think a 32x30 would actually be the best fit for me, however the 33's were still very relaxed and not too large.

    Beware... Sizing is off

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: 36
    • Height: 5'11"
    • Weight: 195lbs

I wear a 35 or 36 in everything.... These pants are mis-sized... Do not order. You will return!!! They must be manufactured wrong. BackCountry should not be selling these. Get the sizing right or take of the site.

    Great fit for most builds!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 33 waist 32 inseam
    • Height: 5'7"
    • Weight: 180lbs

As an athlete I was thrilled that these pants actually fit my backside without looking awkward. They have a great cut and just the right amount of stretch. The tighter cuff around the ankle means that shorter people like me, don't have have to worry about 32 inch inseam being too long.

    Slim AND comfortable

    • Height: 6'1"
    • Weight: 180lbs

The Backcountry Go-To Stretch Twill Pants have quickly become some of my favorites. They feel like denim, but the 3% spandex gives them JUST enough stretch to feel great as you move around.

I find them to be similar in fit to slim AG pants that I really like, but the Backcountry ones are even cooler.

    Stylish & Functional

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: 31
    • Height: 5'9"
    • Weight: 150lbs

The second I put these on I knew I loved them. They have a cool slim fit but are still amazingly flexible. When climbing in them I didn't feel held back at all like I normally do with cotton pants. I also loved the zippered pocket on the left side because I can still access it while wearing a harness and it fits my phone perfectly.

I am normally about a 29 waist and the size 31 fits me perfectly. Definitely size up with these pants.

If you're looking for a comfortable, stylish, and flexible pant get these. You will not regret it.

    These Pants Are Rad!

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: 32
    • Height: 6'0"
    • Weight: 165lbs

I have the absolute hardest time finding pants that fit me because I find myself between sizes or the cut is never quite right. I was stoked when I put these on. While you should probably size up, they have an awesome tapered fit with a mega comfortable stretch material which provides utility and style in an unsuspecting pant.

    Love these pants

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: 32
    • Height: 5'10"
    • Weight: 167lbs

These are great pants to be able to go to work in and also do some afternoon climb or activity. They're not super stretchy by any means, so don't expect Prana Zion stretch here, but they are just a little bit stretchy to keep you comfortable. Definitely more of casual wear than athletic wear, so if your plan is more for around town/work and maybe a little bit of a climb, light biking, or hike, these are great.

They do seem to run a little tight, so probably size up. I'm 5'10, 167lb and got a 32. By comparison, I'm a 30 in Prana Bronson pants.
