Why We Built The Girdwood Gore-Tex Insulated Jacket
We've been waiting all summer for this moment—opening day on our favorite mountain. And it's all the better that the skies are dumping snow faster than we can shred it, because we're well-armored against weather in the Girdwood Gore-Tex Insulated Jacket. Built with the reliable waterproof protection of Gore-Tex, this full-featured piece keeps even wet, heavy snow out, and we've quilted the interior with low-bulk insulation. Special ventilation at the front helps us balance things out if we're too toasty, though. Two center zips let us seal out stormy weather, or we can leave the ventilation visible to help cool us off on the cat track.

Great resort jacket
- I've used it several times
- True to size
- Size Bought
- 5` 10"
- 210 lbs
I bought this jacket and matching ski pants for my days that I’m skiing with kids at resort and just wanted “grab & go” set up (I have Arcteryx gear set up fo more “serious riding”). Lots of comments from people on the mountain as to “cool jacket, nice gear, and what brand is that”.....a little more attention than I wanted, but ok. I got the tan/crimson color jacket & pants. The gear is really comfortable, flexible, and quiet (wink wink Arcteyx). Performance and fit is great, with the only slight weakness being hood. While it can fit over helmet if needed, It is less adjustable/fitted than other gear I’ve had. It also has material on inside of it that can get wet.....not a huge issue, but full disclosure. I don’t use any “insulated” outer gear normally....always just shell jacket/pants and adjust mid layers,, but this set up has been a pleasant surprise. I got both jacket and pants on sale....and I must say, it is a great value and solid product.

Nailed it! Great insulated jacket
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
- True to size
- Size Bought
- 6` 1"
- 230 lbs
I’ve been looking for a replacement jacket for a while now, and finally found it! I tried out the Cottonwoods shell last year and ultimately the fit wasn’t quite right (in between a L and XL) and wasn’t convinced a shell was right for me. I’m 6’1”, 230 lbs, trying to maintain an athletic frame, and the XL fits perfect. The Goretex material is also more flexible/less rigid compared to the Cottonwoods jacket, which was a big plus for me. Plenty of pockets in this jacket, feels very durable and warm. Wind doesn’t stand a chance, and the double zipper in front for ventilation is also a great feature when you do want a bit of it to cool down. Love the style and color scheme. Would highly recommend!

Awesome looking jacket - great features

Its actually mid-Summer where I am and it just arrived today (good shipping service...8 days to New Zealand), so I haven't used it yet & won't for 7 months. Initial impression from trying it on, is that it is exactly what I wanted. An insulated, technical jacket with all the bells and whistles (except maybe a goggle cleaning cloth on a cord, inside one of the many, many pockets). Only concern is that even the XXL is a closer/more athletic cut that I was expecting. I sized up because I normally wear a camelbak under my jacket. The jacket is a great fit for my XL frame. But not enough room for a Camelbak underneath. I guess I'm about to buy a new Camelbak! Plus...damn...wish I'd remembered about Black Friday in the USA. brought it 8 days early and paid too much :(

Once again, Backcountry refuses to list the weight of their in house products on the tech specs page. Every other manufacturer lists the weight, why can't Backcountry? For those of us who are weight conscience and need to count every ounce, we need to know.

What is the weight on the jacket. Im doing a thru hike of the AT and am looking for a good jacket..I don't mind the extra weight if the product works..

Hi Christopher, thanks for reaching out! I'm not sure the weight of this one, but it is a thick, heavier insulated shell meant for resort skiing/snowboarding, so a better choice for your AT thru hike would be our 3 Layer Stretch Rain Jacket or Daintree Rain Jacket and an insulated layer like our Hallet Insulated Hooded Jacket or Silver Fork Down Jacket. If you have any additional questions, don't hesitate to reach out to me at amcclary@backcountry,com
