Why We Built The Cottonwoods Gore-Tex Bib Pant

Even on the deepest storm days, winter finds us lapping fresh lines courtesy of our Cottonwoods Bibs. We built these with everything needed to stay dry in the wettest of snow so that we can explore off-trail in the deep stuff, have our way with spring corn on the groomers, and continue going even when near-blizzard conditions chase everyone else away. Their burly Gore-Tex construction defends against all manners of moisture, even from the inside, and we designed them to integrate seamlessly with the powder skirt on our matching Cottonwoods Jacket, so we stay tight as a drum in the stormiest of weather.

I have about 3 months and 50 days in the backcountry with these bibs so far on everything from a quick lap up Suicide Chute to an all day adventure up Mount Nebo and I've really been enjoying them. I'm 5'8 and 165 lbs and the smalls were too tight in the torso and I went with the mediums which fit really well. A little long but not too bad. PROS - Burly material that withstands anything and everything Mother Nature can throw at you - Zipper chest pocket is great for holding my beacon (could use a clip for the chord) -Other chest pocket is perfect for phone, snacks, gloves, etc -Ease of going to the restroom with two way zippers CONS -Adjustable strap buckle for the bibs sits right on my collarbone which cause discomfort under the weight of my pack strap -Chest zipper has ripped open a couple of times so I had to unzip and rezip -Torso section is really slim -Could use more ventilation options for warmer days (outer leg) Overall I the pros outweigh the cons for me and I'd recommend these if you're looking for a bib that can do it all.

The top/bib section that is removable is awkward to have to zip up when putting these on. I could make these work if I only used them as pants, and removed the bib portion, but even then, the fit is very baggy below the hips, and inseam length is somewhat long, but would work with if there was at least a small adjustment in size of cuffs. Too tight and restrictive above the waist. Will be returning them since I mainly purchased these to use as Bibs. It doesn’t seem like moving to a different size will solve the issues I had. Hopefully they update them for the next generation so I can give those a shot.

These bibs are the real deal...the quality is top notch...the materials (Gore-Tex and Kevlar) are amazing...and the features are stellar. The only problem for me is the fit: I'm tall and skinny (6'2" 150 lbs) and I couldn't make these work unfortunately. I bought M which was just WAY too baggy on me but the S would be too short. Also, I echo what others say about the bibs being tight around the torso. Case in point: the M felt perfectly snug around my torso but from the waist down they were clown pants...and forget trying to use them without the bibs because I couldn't keep the pants up at all, not even cinched it up as far as it would go around the waist. Unfortunately, I had to return these because of the fit. Really a shame because the quality and features are amazing!

I was given this product by Backcountry, but this review Is my personal opinion. These are my favorite pair ski pants/bibs that I have owned and I love how they are able to convert between the two options. I've worn these all winter skiing, sledding, and snowshoeing. I don't have any complaints about them. The material is fantastic at keeping water out, which is expected given that it is Gortex but it also appears to be super tough. I have put a number of holes in ski pants before these from ski edges, branches, and snowshoe spikes but these pants are darn tough. The pockets and vents are well constructed and the zippers are easy to open and close. It is also nice that you have the option to use the elastic and velcro waistband or use the belt loops if you chose to in order to tighten down around the waist. The only thing I notice that is a little annoying but not an issue is the snap buttons at the end of the zippers at the bottom of either pant leg; the snaps always come undone and don't appear to serve any extra purpose when they are snapped down. This is not really a complaint but just something I notice. I end up just leaving the snaps undone and haven't had any issues. Overall, I am really pleased with the construction and performance of the pants.

I don't do many reviews, but the Cottonwoods Gore-Tex Bib Pant is a great product. It's been awhile since I've had bib pants, but after a seriously deep powder day in the back country, I felt it was time to put a pair in my quiver. Though I've only used them 3 times, I found them to be well made and comfortable. Plenty of room in the legs and seat area to layer while the torso section was a bit snug... but not bad. The torso section zips off, which is a nice feature that I tried while resort skiing. It's been pretty cold so I haven't used any of the vents, but they appear to be well placed and I'm sure I'll get some use out of them. Right out of the box, they didn't seem real stiff, yet they feel substantial. These were purchased for backcountry, ski mountaineering and resort skiing. I'm looking forward to putting these through the test of time. Overall, a great product and well worth the price. Jeff

Used bibs skiing 2x, so can't speak for durability. First day started in 20s and ended up warming up to 30s with freezing rain. Solid rain for almost 1 hour. I stayed completely dry! These are waterproof! Gaiters fit over my Scarpa T1 and no issues with material around knees while tele'ing. Fit is a bit snug as others mentioned at the bib. I'm 5'10 180lbs with athletic build. Definitely snug around lats. I loosened suspenders and it helped, but there is not much stretch. I wasn't uncomfortable and no issues with chafing or ROM, but I did notice the material. After a while skiing I forgot about it though. Plenty of room in legs, not too baggy... relaxed fit. Solid bibs! Would purchase again without reservation!

I couldn’t find a bib anywhere! I tried virtika which ran super small unless your 130lbs wet like most snowboarders but if your built like you swing a hammer every day and 240lbs this is the bib for you! At 5’10 240lbs the xxl fits perfectly. I usually wear a 40/42 waist in jeans so I’m my opinion these run small. They fit perfectly and are labeled as a 43/44. So size up unless your man child.

Only have 5 blue bird days on them, but very well made and constructed. Only thing that held them back from perfection for me was needing another inch or two of Velcro around the waist and another 2 inches in length for the snow gator around the boots at My height. I hade to really pull hard to get them under my tallest buckle on my boots. The price at $2xx is a great value in my mind and eliminates the premium brands in my opinion b/c they are not better constructed. Also, would really like for these to have a button/snap to connect to the rustler jacket snow skirt.

Tried Flylow Bakers first and I was swimming in the legs, and the torso was tight. Weirdest fit ever. Could have put my whole body in one of the legs. Great quality and cool company, but didn't work for me... So, tried these next. Glad I did. Fit is spot on for me with a normal athletic build. I'm a M or L in a tee, depending, and 31-32 waist for reference. They also seem lighter and less restrictive than the Flylows, even though they fit closer. Perfect mix of weight vs burliness for my use, as I was hesitant to venture out from my comfy soft shells. Love the easy velcro adjustment on the waist. Still has belt loops in case, which is awesome, but don't need to dedicate one of my Arcade belts, and can just leave them on my soft shells. Pocket layout is perfect. Love the huge stretchy mesh drop pocket on the chest. Just like the ones inside of jackets, but on my chest, and stretchy so it's not in the way when not using. Nice. The other zippered chest pocket will easily fit an iphone+, which lots of pockets seem to not work for. Front two leg pockets are smartly placed for easy access on the lift, below where most jacket bottoms will rest. Smart. They'll also easily hold plus sized phones. Like that these bibs can easily turn into pants. Bonus there. If you tele, they feel great for me dropping the knee. No weird constriction points, just smooth all the way down, with knee pads. Material feels burly, but not new Carhartt burly. None of that cardboard restrictive feel. I was hesitant to not have stretch material, but not needed for me with this design. Nice work, design team. Ya nailed it.

As a 6'2", 180 lb, 32" waist male, I ordered a medium. With the waist fully pulled in, they were still loose with an inch or two of space. The area for the glutes could fit a couple couch pillows in addition to myself, while the straps could not loosen enough to stop them from being tensioned against the groin. Squatting down or bending over caused me to worry the seam down the rear would split open, due to the increased groin tension. I would not recommend these to people who are shaped like people, especially if those people intend to use them for activities.

I got to say, they fit great for me. I think it's just part of ordering online. Bibs are hard, they got almost an entire body they're trying to design for the masses.

Love the pants, they fit me a little loose which is what I wanted. They seem robust, and the zipping off of the top part makes them versatile. A great product and I am excited to use them. Had some issues with shipping and despite trying very hard to get these before my trip to Colorado from NY, the first package didn't arrive and the second one was meant to be a 2 day expedite shipping to a UPS store near me but took still about a week and was too late. Good intention from the company but not great execution there. This was very disappointing, I'll have to wait for another occasion to try them.

Really stiff, but probably ok for pants. These definitely fit loose in the legs and tight in the chest, but could work for some people. I returned these but I'm sure you could count on them keeping every drop of water out for years to come. Just what you want on deep days.

I’m 5’9”, 189, 35” waist, 42” chest, avid backcountry skier. Wanted to like these but had to return. Got a large but waist was way too big and chest too small. Additionally, the upper bib mesh pocket with no closure makes no sense to me. Kind of begging for items to get ejected, accidentally fall out. Nice if any bib has couple of zip pockets on upper portion.

I sized down intentionally for less bulk and ive got shorter legs for my height. the lower portion fits great and the upper bib is a little snug on my athletic build upper body. i just zip it about a 1/3rd to half up and it works great. I also have the cottonwoods jacket and the pair together feel like im wearing a dry suit i could jump in the lake with. I stay bone dry, have great wind protection, and its still breathable. Love these Bibs. only Con: Backcountry Gore-Tex is a little stiff, but still movable and I believe it will loosen over time. If your looking for a great value, this kit is better than most of the bigger names selling in the $400 price range. no regrets from me on this purchase.

I have worn these bibs a few times and are very impressed with them. Pros -Water repellency is as expect from Gore-Tex, one of my recent trips with these had me caught in freezing rain and I had no issue staying dry -Zipper thigh vents actually have mesh lining unlike many other brands that just open completely and can allow snow to fall inside -Zippered pocket on the chest helps to keep phone secure and warm to help prevent the battery from dying -Bib portion can zip off into pants on warmer days Con -The pants waist portion seems to run a bit large. I’m 6’1 and 175lbs typically I wear a size 32 waist (US). These bibs are listed as 32-34 waist for size M however even with the adjustable Velcro straps maxed out they are still too big for me. This is not an issue when wearing them as bibs (which is the main purpose of buying these) but it would be nice to have the option of wearing them as pants. All in all would recommend!

Awesome backcountry bibs

I originally had a pair of flylow firebird ski bibs and the buckle broke after only using them 4 times. The durability on these is better and a better fit. The flylow ones were super baggy. My height is 5’8” and I’m a medium and these fit perfect. I absolutely love them. Here is my pro con list of these bibs. Pros Great fit Waterproof- they mean it Versatile with the removable top Cons Lots of zippers, when the top is zipped off it is uncomfortable to sit on. But that is obviously not an issue while skiing. They don’t have as large of a vent area for heat since the vents are on the inner thighs instead of the sides.

I have had several top brands and models of different snow pants through the years and these feel like they were created to be in a league of their own. The fabric feels extremely durable and waterproof even compared to other Gore-tex pants. I really love the attention to details like the really thick cuff area around the boots to protect them and your boots from getting torn up. Or the super handy mesh goggle pouch so you don't fog up in line. These blew away my expectations and I'm really excited to see how future models of this pant come out, I would love to see more interesting colorways and patterns in future versions!

Long story short, these do not fit me well. I am 6'4" and moderately slim, kinda athletic build (could use to drink a bit less). I ordered a large and the chest was very tight and the pants were as well. Normally a large fits me in just about everything. The legs were also absurdly short. My pants are usually a bit short since I am tall, but this felt more so than normal. I am also not a fan of the zip off pants. While it might be nice for some, I found them hard to consistently zip up and you have to manage two zippers instead of one.

I am really hard on pants and bought these to fill the gap while another pair were getting repaired. I like the fit, it gives me plenty of room to move and the material is durable. I like these so much I will likely sell the repaired ones and keep these until they wear out.
