Backcountry x Black Diamond Stone Garden Crag Backpack
Stone Garden is a sport crag nestled in the Uinta Mountains—a mere half hour from Backcountry's office. As such, it's an excellent spot for climbing after work, and the Backcountry x Black Diamond Stone Garden Crag Backpack is just as excellent on the approach. This pack has a well-thought-out design that organizes all the climbing essentials for a day at the crag. Even with your climbing rope fixed up top and your shoes and chalk bag in the bottom compartment, the capacious 30L main compartment still leaves plenty of room for climbing gear, layers, food, and water.
The main compartment is easily accessible through the top drawcord skirt, and you can snag your water on the trail even easier through the front zipper. The shoulder straps and waist belt provide sturdy support on the approach, and the waist belt tucks away if you ever take the pack on a multi-pitch. There are even handles at the top of the pack for clipping to anchors. Black Diamond made the Stone Garden Crag Backpack out of its very own Creek fabric, well-known for its outstanding durability, and like Black Diamond's Creek packs this one stands on its own for easy packing.
Finally—and though it's sold separately—the matching Stone Garden Rope Bag was designed to serve as a rain cover for the the Crag Backpack. It's never ideal to get caught out in the rain, but if you are, the Rope Bag protects the Crag Backpack and all of its contents while you scramble for the shelter of a rock overhang or pedal through a surprise spring shower to the gym.

This bag is amazing! Looks great and feels great. Very functional as I can fit my 70m rope, my sport rack, harness, shoes chalk bag etc even if you have more stuff you can take the rope out and hook it to the top leaving the inside for more gear. Side pocket is very cool allowing quick access to your phone or water. Definitely recommend!

Epic Crag Bag
This thing is sweet! I initially bought this as a gift but quickly decided to keep it for myself. This bag will carry all the essentials while still keeping all your gear easily accessible! In addition, the pocket on the inside will allow you to carry your phone, wallet, snack bars etc easily. The zip of the bag really makes packing and unpacking a breeze and the shoulder straps will allow you to carry this bag for miles with no issues!

I've used this bag for multiple climbing trips and traveling, and I couldn't ask for more. When I first saw it, I was questioning the size and what I could fit into this for a big day. You can fit everything! 60m rope, handful of draws, shoes, helmet, chalk, harness, jacket, water, and snacks. I am never looking back after using this one, this is bag to have if you had to choose one.

Perfect for day trip sport climbing
Fits a 60 meter rope, 12 draws, anchor system, harness, snacks and water bottle on the inside. Clip my shoes to the many loops on the outside, thats pretty much everything you need for a day trip sport climbing.

I used this bag several times on a few climbing trips, and it never disappointed. The main body of the pack offered ample space for my harness and 70m rope. When I used it to lug trad gear, the rope easily slung over the top of the bag as well. The zippered side pocket was super nice for my water bottle and camera storage. Once at the crag, getting everything out of the pack was a breeze. the pack completely unzips from the side, creating a tarp for your gear. This offered great protection for the rope while belaying. This is a solid product!!

This thing is great. Fully zips open so you can protect your rope from the ground or organize get to you gear quickly. The top compression cinch makes carrying a rope at the top super convenient. Honestly its just a super-versatile climbing bag. Huge fan.

awesome gear hauler
I've used this pack on a 10-day bouldering trip and several day climbing trips and it is excellent. One of the few backpacks out there that don't topple over when you put them down (and typically pour out anything that you had in any open pockets). The space is great, and with the top strap you can easily put a rope on top. Only downside is that the pack is slightly too big to be a 'personal item' when flying, it would count as carry-on. The bottom compartment is nice, I ended up using it more for my jacket, so that I could easily take it out when temps started to drop or stash it during sunshine. The side pocket could have been a little bigger to fit keys, wallet and phone more comfortably. Love that you can completely zipper the main compartment open. The option to tuck the hip straps away is really nice, for 80% of its use I don't use them but when you need them for those trickier hikes its great to have them. All in all well thought-through design without overengineering.

Amazing, what a duo Backcountry and Black Diamond!! They know us. This bag may appear small, however, I fit my 70m rope, harness with accessories, extra chalk, 15 quickdraws, slings, accessory cords, helmet AND water bottle in this for a long day out at the crag. With room to spare for a layer and snacks, I was so impressed! It cinches down fantastic with easy access. My favorite unique feature is the bottom compartment for my shoes and chalk bags to not get all over everything and always be in reach.

The J-zipper makes this pack
So I haven't taken this pack climbing yet but I'm super sold on anythign that zips all the way open. I did recently use this pack for a ton of airport travel and the J-zipper makes getting things in and out at security so easy, plus the seperate bottom compartment is perfect to keep shoes away from other stuff and the long side pocket holds a large smartwater sized waterbottle and travel documents for easy access without having to open the pack all the way. I feel like this pack will be too small to ever use for trad climbing but I could easily use it for a day of sport climbing. The only thing I wish it had was maybe one more stuff it pocket on the outside to put a guide or shove a layer into. Also the suspension and shoulder harness is pretty minimal, I wouldn't take this pack out for a gear intensive day with a heavy load but overall the pack materials and zippers seem super durable, I could see it standing up to several years of abuse.

Awesome in a weird way
Ok... here's a funny thing. I got this bag for climbing. But since it's still spring snowboard season in Mammoth, i figured i'd do both in one weekend. I have "regular" duffle bag that I usually take with all my snowboard jackets/pants/gloves/boots/goggles on it. When this bag came, I figured I'd use just one bag. Voila! the bag was soooo good at keeping both my gears in place. The J-shaped zipper made it really easy to access my stuff. It was big enough to put my snowboard jacket/pants/goggles/a few shirts/swim clothes and my climbing gears. The material of the bag itself is sturdy and tough. It's built to withstand rough walls when you're squeezing between boulders or a tight spot. (Alabama Hills, Ca).

Holds More Than You Would Think
I recently took this pack on a weekend trip to the San Rafael Swell and it performed admirably. I used this as my sole pack for long days at the crag and I was pleasantly surprised that it could hold everything I needed without too much fuss. This is facilitated by the handy and easy to use J shaped zipper that allows you to unfold the pack like a book and pack it very effectively. For reference, here is what I packed each day: -Triple rack of BD cams 0.3 - 4. Plus one #5 and one #6. Handful of draws. -Shoes, harness, chalkbag, helmet. -Tupperware lunchbox, 2 liters of water, fleece, light puffy. -Rope strapped over the top if I was carrying one. The pack is quite full with this gear, but it is still quick and easy to pack. The side pocket fits a liter size smartwater type bottle very nicely; a nalgene would be a struggle with the pack full. I could live without the bottom compartment, but it is there if you want it and invisible if you choose not to use it. The one internal organizer is good for your palm top, keys, and a granola bar. Daisy chains on the front allow you to hang some gear such as a helmet if you wanted to free up room inside the pack. The pack is pretty light, I'd estimate 2 lbs or less. This pack is best for short to medium length approaches. When carrying a rope and a lot of cams, the weight and minimal padding become pretty apparent. If hauling a rope and rack on big approaches, I would go with a pack with more robust suspension and padding, but this pack is excellent for general cragging and should stand up to years of abuse,

Great for Climbing and Canyoneering
So I bought this bag to be my climbing pack, but had the opportunity to test it out canyoneering in a claustrophobic slot canyon first. I gotta say, I am impressed with how well it held up considering that isn't what it was specifically designed for and I beat the crap out of it. Probably won't push my luck with this bag again though in that tight of a canyon. But it worked like a charm! It has the quality you would expect from a Black Diamond bag with the features requested by Backcountry Gearheads! I got one tiny hole and some fraying when I was honestly expecting to get more. I love the J-Zip feature which allows you to completely unzip the bag to lay it flat (which came in handy to reach things at the bottom of the bag without completely removing everything and also helped my to dry my gear out after an unexpected plunge in a pool of water) while still having the top load option for quick access. I kept my rope in the top in it's own rope bag for easy access. This thing is loaded with other useful features too! I can carry the rope inside the bag on its own or in the additional rope bag designed for this one (sold separately which I did buy and I love it too) or on top cinched with the main closure strap if the main compartment is too full to fit the rope. I had an easy time getting in and out of the bag all day. I also love the separate bottom compartment for stinky shoes, or when canyoneering it's perfect for adding the wet gear you don't want to keep on and don't want getting everything in your main compartment wet (it has some drainage holes poked into the fabric which also helps to vent the area from stinky shoes). The side zip-pocket fit my 24 oz Hydroflask snugly. Anything bigger will need to go in the main compartment. There are just enough little features to be handy while still maintaining a minimalist feel! The haul bag inspired design was extremely useful to hang the bag off my harness through some of the tighter section and could even be used for a smaller option haul bag when on some shorter multi-pitch climbs. The backpack and hip straps aren't the most comfortable in the world but they get the job done, especially if your main purpose involves taking the bag on and off all day through a canyon or bouncing from crag to crag or crag to gym.
