Float 22 Airbag Backpack

The Backcountry Access Float 22 Airbag is BCA's medium-sized pack, designed for morning tours and extended through-the-gates adventures. The Float 2.0 airbag system uses a compressed air cylinder to almost instantly inflate a 150L airbag that helps keep you at or near the surface of a slide in order to minimize evacuation time and blunt force trauma from debris and hidden obstacles. Backcountry Access also has the world's most extensive network of cylinder refill and exchange centers, making it easier for you to get a new compressed air cylinder after you have to deploy your airbag.

The Float 22 features enough volume to stash your climbing skins, snacks, an extra layer, and, of course, all the avalanche safety essentials. In fact, it has dedicated shovel and probe sleeves so you can quickly access your avalanche rescue tools. A diagonal ski carry holds your planks when you have to boot pack, and BCA also offers a snowboard carry attachment (sold separately) for the snow surfers.

Doesn't come with canister

I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

BUYER BEWARE Even though it lists "Air compressed cylinder with 200+ authorized refill locations," "The Float 2.0 airbag system uses a compressed air cylinder to almost instantly inflate a 150L airbag," and "Backcountry Access also has the world's most extensive network of cylinder refill and exchange centers, making it easier for you to get a new compressed air cylinder after you have to deploy your airbag." in the details, look at the tech specs and you will find out that it does NOT include a canister. A mighty big surprise when I got online and found that an empty cylinder is $200. This is NOT the deal that I thought I was getting. All in all though it is a high quality pack and I do look forward to using it... when I get all of the parts.

Great lightweight compact airbag

I've put it through the wringer

I love how this pack fits tight and close to your body, it's not too bulky but still has separate compartments for goggles and shovel/probe. Great sidecountry pack or small day missions with handy helmet carry that stashes away when you don't need it. I wear mine pretty much everyday in Jackson hole backcountry.

Best Day Float Bag!

I've put it through the wringer

I skied with this backpack all around the states and Europe last winter. It is the perfect compact size for use in the resort and side country, while still being big enough to fit avalanche gear, skins, and water. All while having the Float 2.0 system integrated into the backpack. Can't wait to use it again this winter!

My Avalanche Air Bag of Choice

I've put it through the wringer

BCA's Float 22L 2.0 airbag is a very reliable avy pack. Designed to fit comfortably and feel good, has the storage capacity for full day trips and delivers performance when your life depends on it. I've deployed a BCA twice. Once being a little over cautious and the other time in dire need. Under 4 secs it fully inflates. The pull handle is easy to grab and designed to eliminate hanging up avoiding unwanted deployments. It feels good on the back hiking and conforms nicely to the body while ripping without it shifting around throwing balance off during speed or critical turns. I use the outer separate stash area for shovel, probe, skins and first aid/repair kit. Keeping the snow out of the main cargo area is nice for back up gloves, hat, goggles, lense, water and food. I like the details of the metal waist buckle and size of the side waist pocket just big enough for lip balm, wax, snack and my multi tool knife. One shoulder strap is home to the pull trigger and other side keeps my hydration line and BCA Link 2.0 radio.

Awesome pack

I've used it several times

This pack rules. The new float 2.0 system is lighter and more compact than ever. It's an airbag pack that you can actually ski big lines with, without feeling like you're carrying a small child on your back. IIt has ample space to pack extra layers, water, snacks, and all the essentials for skiing in the backcountry. I love that it has a separate compartment to keep avy gear organized and a place to put wet skins so they don't get the rest of your gear soaked. I love this pack!
