Whether you're a backcountry enthusiast, in the midst of a Level II Avalanche course, or an on-duty patroller, rely on the Backcountry Access 10X Magnifying Loupe to give you a close up look at snow crystals and help you make informed decisions when you travel in avalanche terrain. This mini-sized, 10x loupe reveals microscopic views of crystal formation so you can observe, interpret, and make the most educated decisions possible.

    • Folding metal base with glass lens simply unfolds into a three-part standalone-magnifying loupe for fast and easy focusing
    • Base doubles as the viewing window and has outlined markings in both 1/4 inch and millimeter increments
    • Best if used with the Backcountry Access Crystal Card (sold separately) for close proximity to the classification key of the snow crystals

This loupe will provide clear 10x magnification in the controlled environment of your home. Take it out into the cold and wet backcountry and it will not.

I experienced persistent fog and water smears with this thing, and it's extremely difficult to unfurl with any sort of glove on. It's also tiny and provides no way of focusing short of pulling the magnifier back on its hinge and manually changing the distance between it and the object being viewed (which is fine, but renders the millimeter measurements useless).

I recommend a higher power magnification unit with an adjustable focus knob if snow crystal ID is your objective.

    Great little tool!

I've recently been more interested in really seeing the layers of snow in the pits that I dig. I bought this along with the BCA aluminum crystal card, it's super fun to see crystals up close and clear. The BCA access magnifying loupe seems pretty durable too, which I was not expecting!
