Why We Built The 401 Button-Up Jersey

While the spandex and lycra get-up is appropriate for certain occasions, the 401 Button-Up Jersey is just as comfortable on the trail as it is at the pub, making it ideal for most of our trail rides. We designed it for post-work singletrack jaunts and all-day group rides in the high alpine. The integrated sun protection and quick-drying fabrics make this jersey suitable for upper-elevation mountain ridges and loamy coastal trails alike, and the classic button-up styling lets you stick out a little less when you’re crushing poutine and craft beer after your ride.

Great Shirt Terrible Buttons

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

Wish I'd read these reviews before I bought it. Great fabric. Comfortable fit...but when more than one of the buttons on this shirt ripped out of the fabric during the first ride, I knew it wasn't going to be a keeper. It's a shame too because everything else about the shirt is fantastic. Backcountry usually has some of the best MTB gear, but this one just misses the mark.

So far so good, it's comfortable and I stay dry. I see some reviewers had issues with the snaps, I can stay I don't share their issues, maybe I got lucky or they got unlucky, but I tease my S.O. by ripping it off like Hulk Hogan and the snaps and fabric haven't shown any issues yet. YMMV. It's a slim fit but not uncomfortably tight or anything. Overall I'd get again. Looks nice for apr° beers.

Like It Despite The Flaw

The other reviewers are dead on. As soon as I got the shirt and tried to unbutton the snaps, I could tell that the fabric wasn?t going to hold. I didn?t even attempt it. The shirt is pretty stretchy, so I left all the snaps buttoned and slip it on and off like a t-shirt. Obviously this wasn?t how the shirt was designed to operate. That being said, I bought the Gargoyle Plaid shirt and it is super stylish, has some useful pockets, and is probably the most comfortable shirt I have for mountain biking. My wife laughs at me for wearing a collared shirt to go riding, like I might have an impromptu job interview out on the trail or something. But despite that, and despite the button issue, I really like this shirt for its style and comfort factor.

Fabric/snap combination no good

My husband loved the look of the shirt and the fit, but the snaps tore through the fabric when he took it off after simply trying it on for size. My son and I own a bunch of similar shirts (not bike jersey shirts, but patterned tech shirts with snaps from brands like Stio, Kuhl, and NRS) and we have never had this problem before. Snaps are convenient and a great idea, but not so great if the combination of fabric/construction/snap can't hold up to simple buttoning and unbuttoning.

Buttons are stronger than the fabric

I didn't even put this shirt on because when I tried to undo the first snap button after opening the packaging, the button pulled out of the fabric instead of opening up. The fabric is so flimsy that the force needed to open the button was stronger than the fabric. I tried the next button and it started to tear apart the fabric around that button too. Very poorly designed and made.
