Awesome & Sturdy Backpack for Heavy Book

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I bought this backpack with the intention of using it both for daily school use and for short hikes. I LOVE IT! Compared to my previous backpack, this one is far more comfortable and somehow makes exact same quantity of books feel much, much lighter and far easier to carry.

I agree with previous reviewer about the tapered design, which makes the pack fall over if you try to stand it upright; but that's a minor annoyance when compared to how comfortable it is.

The internal compartments make organizing misc. school and office supplies easy; and will make for handy places to store navigation tools & first aid supplies when using the pack for hikes.

Time will tell how durable the stitching is, but, if I'm not wrong, it has a lifetime warranty, right?

My only complaint is that the pack achieves its 27L capactiy in its height. It would have been nice to have less height and more depth, in order to be able to cram more books and binders into it. But the extra height will come in handy for, e.g., packing a climbing rope, or other tall outdoor gear items (maybe snowshoes?). So, it's a wash I guess.

For reference, the following will snugly fit into the pack: two 1.5" binders; one 2" binder; one 3" binder; and a Macbook Pro. I also pack a bunch of stuff into the outer-most compartment, so I could probably put more binders/books inside if that weren't the case.

    Carries School Stuff with Ease

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This bag is comfy, roomy, and easy to load. Of the bags we tried, it's most comparable to the Patagonia Refugio 28L, and the advantage here is the bag shape: the Refugio (also a good bag) is wider at the bottom, while this is wider at the top, making it easier to stuff in those last items.
That shape means it doesn't stand up when placed on the ground, so if that troubles you, consider the Refugio or the excellent Osprey Quasar. If you don't mind laying it flat and want a pack with a good laptop/hydration sleeve accessed through its own zipper, this is a great choice.

    Great School Bag

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This is a great backpack for school. The pockets are perfect for organizing binders, folders, and a laptop. Additionally, there is enough extra space to throw some food and clothing in the pack if necessary. I like the organizing pockets within the pack as well. They make it easy to stash pens, a calculator, or a pair of glasses securely.

all good, though it could be lighter

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

What sold me was the fleece lined sunglass pocket. I love the way the zips are designed for three compartments with the laptop at the back against my spine. This made it the perfect travel pack for me, a great supplement to the airline carryon I used for a week's business trip, which included rustic environment, not quite camping. My only complaint is that I like light equipment and this pack, unloaded, is heavier than my existing day packs so I am not going to use it for shopping expeditions on my bike. The extra weight is worth it for my very frequent business trips.

    Love The Soft Frame

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

When I got this backpack I didn't realize how much I would end up using it. It has amazing pockets for getting all your day hiking gear into it. I love the softback frame that it has which helps to keep the form of the bag. I never really loved my past backpacks because they never held their shape. With this bag whether you pack tight or just put a few things in it carying, it doesn't feel different.

    Really Great

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I couldn't believe how comfortable this pack was to wear, even loaded down with all the (likely unnecessary) things I carry around with me everyday. It's ideal as a commuter pack and even better for hiking.
    Pocket, pockets, pockets!!!
This bag has so many places to stash things I almost forget where I put it all! Seriously though there seems to be way more space in there than just 27L . The design of the zips and how the compartments are laid out is also extremely well thought.
Comfort and function are key when it comes to a day pack and this one checks all of the boxes.
    Highly recommend.

    Sport The Goat!

Carrying books, clothes or any other gear this bag works great. The pack has a spacious laptop sleeve and has good organization pouches. It would be nice to have the waist strap but isn't a deal breaker!

Perfect for commuting to and from work

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I love how much space and storage I have with this Daypack. I can easily fit my laptop, water reservoir along with a change of clothes with room to spare. Highly recommend this for any riding or daily outdoor exploring. Great job Backcountry!

      The Versatile day bag

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Loving this little bag for my day to day. Whether its dropping my kid off at school, heading to the ski hill or the coffee shop to work, I've beent taking this bag everywhere! I love the color and the fit too. Such a handy bag, I can't wait to see what it will be like in the summer for day hikes.

      My New Go-To

Trading my old back pack out for this 27L Daypack! Comfy fit, with pockets made for easy organization. There is a solid spot for everything ranging from your shades to your laptop. The blue coral color is appealing and hard to dirty. It does not have a waist belt, so I have mainly used this pack for travel rather than strenuous hikes. Perfect airport carry on!

So close... and yet so far

        • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I love everything about the pack, save for what's missing. Which is a waist belt. A 27L pack is big enough to hold all the things. It has plenty of room to hold extra layers, water (both bottles and a bladder) snacks, gear... camera equipment, etc. But without a waist belt it's not suitable to hold any legit amount of weight. My daypacks are usually on the heavier side as I carry camera gear, along with ALL the essentials for being out in the wilderness, and within ten minutes of hiking, I was already beginning to experience lower back pain. After the hike was done, the pain increased and was with me for a couple days. A pack of this size needs to have better weight distribution. I look forward to seeing a tweak on this product. A waist belt with pockets would have made this one damn near perfect.

        Almost has everything

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This product was given to me by Backcountry, but this review is my personal opinion. Packs are like jackets to me, I have a ton of them but they are all missing something. Let's start with the pros: pockets! I'm a pocket gal, I like lots of pockets and I like my pockets to be purposefully placed. The Backcountry 27L Daypack does not skimp on the pockets. There are a ton of them and they all serve a purpose. I really appreciate the fleece lined pocket, perfect for sunglasses. The bladder pocket is extra big, I fit a 3 liter bladder in it. The color of the pack is really nice and the material is abrasion resistant. The padded shoulder straps are comfortable while hiking and don't rub at all. Cons: no rain cover. I personally think every pack should come with a rain cover but maybe that's just because I live in the PNW. There is also no waist belt which also kind of bugs me. If I'm using this as a full day pack and packing it full I would prefer a wait belt for added comfort because the weight of a pack should be 80% on your waist and 20% on shoulders. Without a waist belt all that weight is on your shoulders. Granted a 27 liter pack wouldn't be crazy heavy but still. Also if you were to add a waist belt I'd say add pockets to that wait belt. Overall a decent pack.

        Almost has everything

        Near Perfect

I just received this backpack, I ordered it out of curiosity. My initial impression was wow, okay what do I have here. I was really looking for a hiking backpack and came across this pack and thought it might serve as a good replacement for my daily backpack/gym pack. The photos they posted don't do it justice. It has a rear compartment for a laptop or water bladder. The middle compartment is the main storage area. I love that it has a clam shell opening, it unzips 3/4 of the way so organizing your gear will be super easy! I was able to fit jogging pants, two tee shirts, shorts and socks, sneakers and a water bottle with room to spare. The bottom has collapsible padding, which will help protect your gear when placed on the floor. There is a fleece lined pocket found between the main and the front storage compartment that can hold your googles, sunglasses or phone. The front compartment has two fleece lined pockets, a mesh pocket, and three pen/pencil pockets. You can easily organize your phone, keys, and other items. It is also deep and can fit a water bottle or an iPad. As far as negatives, the side stretch pockets seem shallow, but if you secure your item with the side strap it shouldn't be an issue. The grab handle sits flush with the top which causes the zipper to rub on your hand. This may not seem like a big deal, but I can see this becoming annoying as I hold the bag by hand during my commute. Finally, the material is water resistant, but the zippers are not so water will get in. I hope this review helps you out.

          All Around Stellar pack

          • Familiarity: I've used it several times

An awesome pack. It looks good, it's comfortable, and it's just the right volume for roadtrip packing, hiking, throwing some climbing gear into, or even cameras and lenses (though there isn't enough padding between sections for this). The pockets and stitching have great details, adjusting the pack is easy, and the back panels vent pretty well, however it seems to load a bit top-heavy which is nice on hikes but very different from regular school bags that I'm used to. This daypack will definitely be my new go-to.
