A classic go-to

This is a classic go-to binding. Fairly lightweight compared to all but the slimmest of skimo bindings. Retention has been predictable and secure. I have crashed with them and they released as expected. Going brakeless saves a good amount of weight and makes things even simpler when transitioning.

I've now had 3 seasons on the Backland Binding and it now is my go to binding for most of my touring set ups. Extremely light, but burly and with really nice retention. I've skied a lot of high consequence lines, some with mandatory rappels, wrought with ice, and i've always felt extremely confident and stable with these bindings. They are extremely light and have really nice variability in the risers. My favorite feature is what I call "quick tour" mode - for most of the touring i do here in the Wasatch, I never really need the "flat" tour level. So, i usually just flip the first riser down, over the pins, without turning the heel piece. This does two things - allows for quick transitions at the top and bottom. I can flip the riser up at the top, stomp down, and rip skins and I'm good to go. At the bottom, all you have to do is flip the riser back down and you're ready to skin. Not needing to turn the heelpiece is clutch, and I do believe this helps the binding keep its retention value longer as you aren't constantly forcing the spring while turning it. Favorite binding in the weight class!
