Sea the possibilities.
The Astral Blue Jacket is a sea-kayak-inspired PFD that also performs at an extremely high level in various whitewater, angling, and sailing applications. Equipped with loads of features that make it stand out from many other PFDs at similar price points, it combines a lightweight design and a solid storage capacity into a PFD that will be at home on the river, creek, lake, or open ocean.
The BlueJacket is designed with Astral's Foam Tectonics system, which allows the external portion of the jacket to pivot with the movements of your body, while the inner panel stays snug, enabling it to be highly reactive when things get hectic. Guides will also love the hook-and-loop straps that serve to clean up free-hanging webbing, so you don't risk them catching on bits of metal frame when all hell breaks loose. And because prolonged paddles can be exhausting—not to mention rapid scouts and portages—the BlueJacket is equipped with a back-mesh holster and hooked sleeve to accommodate a hydration bladder for on-the-go drinking, beer not included.

Awesome PFD for small peeps
Well designed product, comfortable and does the job extremely well. The Astral's buckling system is spot on for fit adjustment for a slimmer person and side entry|exit is very convenient. It worked really well for kayaking in Hawaii when the ocean invites you for a swim and getting back in the kayak with the vest on is easy-peasy (yes, the clamshell storage is kinda leak-resistant).
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
I am a new paddler and this is probably the nicest PFD I've ever used. I was a little nervous to try a unisex style to fit my feminine shape but the cut of it was perfect. The front pocket section is separate from the rest of the body and adjust able from the band that connects around your body. The shoulders are not adjust able but pretty much everywhere else is and I found the fit perfect. The style is quite low profile so I didn't feel like a balloon while on my paddle board.
Because I'm on a SUP and not a kayak, I really appreciated the front clam shell pocket to hold my beers. It fit two perfectly and I could have an open beer inside the shell partially zipped as a nice beer holder while paddling. If you're not holding beers, I think it would also be nice for fly fishing accessories or smaller pieces of gear or snacks. There are also nice lashes on both shoulders to hold your knife depending on your dominate hand. Additionally there are two pockets on the bottom directly under your armpits that I personally used for my snack trash but are big enough to hold a phone (with waterproof case) or something else more suited for your river adventures.
Bonus points for coming in my favorite color: Turquoise!

Here is a great video detailing the sheer awesomeness of the Astral Blue Jacket. Enjoy!

I borrowed this PFD for a lake trip last year and I've been fighting with myself over purchasing one. I ended up buying an NRS one that was half the price and returning it immediately. Nothing can compare to how comfortable this PFD is and I love all the extra space in the pocket. It's worth the price.
No issues yet
Got this vest for sailing and love it. The front Pocket is wonderful little table and great storage. Fits well! I would definitely buy this again. I tried a few different vests on and this was the most comfortable.

Love this jacket, has a great pocket for keeping my cell phone dry on the front, and it's hydration bladder (or beer bladder) compatible. Comfortable for hours of white water or also great for a cruiser float down a meandering lazy river.
Is there a slot for a river knife and whistle?
Hey there Mike!
Unlike the Green Jacket from Astral this PFD does not have the spot on the chest for the knife. It offers little loops on the shoulder straps where you could attach a whistle and a knife. If you have any more questions about this PFD feel free to reach out directly to me!
Thanks for the answer, Brooklyn!
