For riding in cool or cold conditions, it's extremely difficult to beat the practicality of a great vest. Element-proof materials that keep the wind and rain off of you go a very long way in preserving your overall comfort when the temperature drops. Their packability means convenience, too. All told, if you're sold, allow us to introduce the Assos sV.blitzFeder Men's Vest as an ultimate option for going sleeveless.
In their forest of technical terms as the fabric wizards that they are, Assos refers to its vest formally as a "sleeveless shell." A vest in other words, but Assos is calling it the former to demonstrate how protective it is. Having a windproof barrier between your jersey and the outside gives more protection than a simple vest with a mesh back. The blitzFeder is better at releasing sweat vapor than most pieces, thanks to the new Foil043 fabric. It's feathery light and ultra-thin; ball it up and it easily fits in a jersey pocket. There's even a stuff sack sewn into the vest to make this especially possible.
Assos calls the material a "natural windbreaker," which is its way of saying that there is no membrane applied in creating the windproof qualities of the material; the structure of the threads and the density of the weave make it so. A treatment is added to give the fabric water repellency, however. The fabric was also engineered not to rustle in the wind — wizards, indeed.
As with all Assos garments, the vest is designed for a snug fit, and it fits best when in the riding position. There is elastic at the shoulders and waist to minimize unwanted shifting, and it has elastic mesh inserts on the sides of the back and under the arms to allow some stretch. There are also reflective tabs on the shoulders and on either side of the waist for added visibility.
- Weather-resistant vest for spring and fall cycling
- Material shields your core against gusty chills
- DWR treatment keeps water beading up and rolling off
- Mesh inserts increase breathability and dispel excess heat
- Material designed to reduce rustling in wind
- Race-worthy fit eliminates excess material and bulk
- Stuff pocket helps the vest stash down to a minimum
- Reflective details help increase visibility in low-light

Functional Vest but Not Recommended
This vest has a great fit and is very functional, offering an additional layer for fall and early winter winter riding. It works well as a wind block and the yellow color that I ordered makes for a safer ride. The zipper quality is poor, however, and separated on the 3rd ride. I was able to use it for couple more times but on the ride today the plastic fitting at the zipper bottom broke rendering the vest unusable. I have several Assos pieces of clothing and this vest is not up to their usual quality standards. I'd avoid this vest and look at products from other companies.

Just what I was looking for.
Thin, light, breathable and easily packable. Doesn't provide any insulation or heavy rain protection but breaks the wind, doesn't flap around and gives you a little protection from light rain or drizzle. I'm pretty muscular and went with an XL so I could layer under it (could wear a L if I'd wanted a tight fit)

Nice, but fit is off...
Following CC reviews of the vest that the fit runs small, I ordered size medium, not my usual small. It’s fine in the body but a little too large around the shoulders - a good amount of flutter/noise at speed!

Super packable and it works.
It packs away to a size that fits in your fist so don't worry about it taking up room in your pocket. I was kind of annoyed that it did not fold away into itself into some kind of self-contained pocket. Until, I realized that pulling it out on the bike and putting it on is easier without unpacking it. You just pull it out and it unfurls like some big tissue. Wicked easy to put on. Pretty smart Assos. It does however flap on the shoulder in the wind like some reviewers mentioned. It's my only gripe. It doesn't annoy me that much but they do need to make the shoulder holes a little tighter. Like all Assos products it's made very well and like many of their tops it's designed with great wind shielding properties up front and vents extremely well where it's suppose to. Adjusting the zipper will dial in the right temperature for you every time.

Reluctantly Bought It, Glad I Did!
Got tired of getting wet this summer so I begrudgingly bought this vest. If you have to have rain protection, this is the ticket. Literally folds into the palm of your hand this vest provides the protection you need when you get caught. Typical Assos fit I'm 6'4 195 and XLG fits perfectly.

I take this vest or the Blitzfeder jacket on every ride I go on. This is a great piece for canyon riding, morning rides, or when you are unsure what the weather is going to do. The Yellow and the Black use a new softer material Assos has developed. I recently updated to the Black Series from an older White Panther and love the new feel, the material is much softer. The fit is snug, I wear a small in all Assos jerseys and bibs, and this is a bit tighter than my current jacket and older vest, so if you are in-between sizes size up. As with all Assos gear, the fabrics used are super nice and the construction is top-notch. Please reach out to me if you have any questions on this or any other Assos piece. Close to Being Great
I took this out for a long road ride this weekend and so badly want to like it (and keep it), but I had some major shoulder wind flapping. The upside? Super light, incredibly package, and seemed to do the job as far as wind protection. It not for the shoulder flap, this would be the perfect vest

Runs small, flaps in the wind
I originally order a small based on the size chart. I am pretty skinny but I could not even come close to getting it zipped. So I returned it for a medium which fits ok but is tight around the neck and loose in the shoulders. Pros: Its Assos It blocks the wind It breathes ok but I feel it holds in sweat a little bit. The zipper is easy to adjust while riding The slits in back make it possible to access my jersey pockets It packs down very small Cons: Strange fit, size chart is way way off. Neck is tight, shoulders are loose It flaps a lot when I am in a lower position going downhill, very annoying. For the high price I am disappointed. I would have returned it but I have it longer than 30 days which is long it took me to realize the problems

Minimalist vest but do you need sleeves?
For a wind-breaking vest you can't beat it. As advertised, it is extremely lightweight and compact, and appears well-made. I did not see this mentioned but it has 2 cutaways on back that roughly align with the typical left/right pockets on a jersey; but, don't count on quick and easy access under intense conditions (e.g. a race) where you don't have the luxury of stopping and pulling over. I went back and forth on whether to order this Blitzfeder vest or the long-sleeve Blitzfeder jacket. To experiment, on a cold 40F ride I intentionally dressed a little on the cool side with just a long-sleeve base layer, a short-sleeve jersey, and this vest. The vest kept my core nice and warm while my arms stayed cold, which tells me the material of the vest works, but that the long-sleeve version paired with a simple base layer would provide the equivalent of a decently warm cycling jacket with a removable outer layer. Ideally I would have both in my wardrobe. I am 5'11, 175 pounds, 99% body fat, and the XL is just big enough, with a tiny amount of room left over to accommodate variable winter layers.

I commend you on your courageous admission: not many guys would volunteer the statistic that they are 99% body fat, even if this is more common than we'd like to admit.
June 29, 2017
Yeah, another reviewer posted 9% body fat and I was just trying to balance that for a more realistic review sample.

compact and effective. Runs small.
This vest fints in it's own opocket about the size of a small flat apple so it is always easy to take alomg. It blocks the wind well and resists small amounts of rain. It fits super well so no very little ttle if any flapping unlike many vests. I found it just the thing to block the wind on chilly mornings and then stuff in a rear pocket as the day warms up. Note that i usually wear a medium, i'm 5'10", 168 lbs, 9% body fat, and in this piece a large just fits.
