Great boot

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I go on a hiking trip about every 2 years and typically do about 30-40 miles on those trips. I used these boots out of the box to hike about 30 miles in Teton National Park. They were comfortable out of the box. I got the "pumpkin" color in size 13 which is one size larger than I normally wear. I wore liner and outer wool socks. I never got a single hotspot or rough spot on my feet and they were perfect. I can't remember a time where foot pain wasn't part of a hike and these shoes were great for allowing me to remain comfy the whole trip. The Gore-Tex was great as I hiked in snow, rain, sleet and mud with no issue. The treads are a little more shallow than other shoes but the self-cleaning tread worked like a charm. Overall a wonderful boot that I highly recommed.

heel problems

Familiarity:

Love Asolo historically and the feel of these initially, but now having signifciant problems with ascending because pressure on my heel bone is causing serious blisters. The back of the boot is rather unforgiving and seems unlikely this will be aided by additional breaking-in. I have worn them several times with the same issue. Toe box is also a bit tighter than expected collapsing on the top of my toes oddly. Overall, love the flexibility and weight. Can even jog lightly in them on very flat surface for short distance, but with climbs or any distance, not overly comfortable. If these were $80 I'd say whatever, but for the price and type (light hiker) I was hoping they would be much more forgiving. Bummer, was initially excited about these.

These broke my heart

Familiarity:
I returned this product before using it

I think they're a perfect light mid hiker - great construction, not bulky, and look great. I'm a 13B in dress shoes, with low arches and low foot volume. Asolo has always been a brand that works for me and I have some older leather boots which I love. Alas, the toe box really puts too much pressure on my small toes as it tapers just a little too much. I could futz around and try some much thinner socks, but I'm worried that after a long day of hiking (and your feet swell) there's no making this better. A half size up would fix the problem, but this appears to be as big as they make them. For what it's worth, the La Sportiva Nucleo gave me the fit I needed with room in the toe box. They are also light, but not a mid - much taller and feel a little more heavy-duty than I wanted this time around, but the foot comfort is good.

Dangit! I Really Wanted To Love These!

I really wanted to love these but returned them. I normally wear Lowas and love them, but they are a little heavy and wanted to just try something new. I have stupid feet. My big toes are shorter than the rest of 'em. It makes it hard to find the right toe box when I shoe shop. I loved these for a while as I wore them around the house. Instantly comfortable. However.... Well, one tiny gripe first... They could really use one more set of lace hooks over the tongue. OK, unfortunately, after wearing them for a little bit, the right one started to do the "flip flop" thing. Every time I took a step, the pinky toe side of the toe box would make a flip flop sound every time. It's like they are bending in the wrong place. GAH!

Warning!!! Hollow treads.

WARNING!!! Like most people say, these boots are comfortable right out of the box. Here is the main issue: The treads are HOLLOW! Once you wear off half the tread, holes will form because they are HOLLOW! It basically halves the life of the boots and is very disappointing for a $225 shoe. I brought this to the attention of Scott at Asolo who after looking at this picture had this to say "The soles are not hollow, the holes are the result of some outside force." So denying reality is their company policy.

Best hiking boots I've ever worn

Hiking boots have come a long way since i first started wearing them more than 40 years ago and these boots are the pinnacle of those 40 years of development. Light, rugged, protects well, looks good (I got the grey and red), laces well and they stay tied! I thought they may need some breaking in so i took them on a two-mile hike when i first got them and it was unnecessary--they feel good right out of the box. The only slight negative about these boots could be that they get hot in warm weather, but what hiking boot doesn't? I wear these boots everywhere with cargo shorts. Highly recommended and worth the price.

For the past ten or so years I?ve lived in my Asolo GTX Fugitives most of the time, except when very warm, and worn Merrill Ventilators when it was too hot for such vortex lined boot. Unfortunately the Ventilators felt too flexible, and although comfortable, not supportive enough. When I saw an add for the Falcon it was described as exactly what I was looking for: a lightweight, waterproof, supportive alternative to the Fugitive. Perfect! So far I?ve had them for about two months and have taken them on 3-5 mile hikes, mostly light trails and paths with light packs, three or four times a week. They were comfortable right out of the box, slightly tighter than the Fugitives; so requiring a thinner sock (REIs Smartwool lightweight hikers work perfectly), but fit well with the quick adjusting laces which lock into the boots top cleats and make donning on and off super fast and easy. I can?t comment on their durability, although so far I?ve had no problems; seams have remained intact and streams have not soaked through any parts of the boots. The soles still look new, and have provided excellent gripping on all types of surfaces. Only time will tell how long they last. Visually, they take some getting used to- they?re kind of a cross between bowling shoes and Batman boots, but then again so are the original GTXs.
