Built for linking summits and multi-day backcountry missions
Black Diamond headlamp features: power, color, and versatile mounting
For alpine starts and summit links, look for strong output, adaptable beam control, and a carry setup that works with your kit.

What to prioritize for alpine lighting

For mountaineering and alpine travel, the right Black Diamond headlamp should give you high output, quick brightness adjustment, dependable night-vision options, and a secure way to wear or mount the battery pack. When the route starts in the dark or runs long past sunset, those details matter more than fluff. You want enough light to pick out terrain clearly, a simple way to fine-tune brightness as conditions change, and beam settings that help preserve vision when you’re checking gear, maps, or camp tasks.

A strong example is a setup with 700 lumens, which gives you the punch needed for skin tracks, rocky approaches, and technical movement where depth and detail count. Just as important, brightness should be easy to adjust on the fly. A feature like PowerTap technology helps you react fast instead of fumbling with controls in gloves or cold hands.

Color lighting also earns its place in the alpine. Red, blue, and green modes give you more options for different night-vision needs, which is handy when you’re moving between camp chores, transitions, and route finding. Finally, pay attention to how the power source carries. A removable battery pack with alternate mounting options can make a big difference when you’re layering up, wearing a helmet, or dialing comfort for a long push.

See the features that matter most

Why these features matter in the mountains

The Black Diamond Icon 700 Headlamp is built around the kind of details that make long, dark starts feel a lot more manageable. Its dimmable white light lets you tailor output to the moment. Cranking brightness can help when you need more visibility, while dimming down can be useful in tighter spaces or when you want a lower-output setting.

Brightness Memory is one of those features that sounds small until you use it. Instead of resetting every time you power up, the lamp remembers your previous brightness level. That means less fiddling and a faster return to the light level you already know works for your pace and conditions.

The lighting options go beyond white beam output. With red, blue, and green lighting, you get more flexibility for different tasks after dark. Having multiple color modes gives you more flexibility for different tasks after dark.

Then there’s the carry system. The removable battery pack, plus a longer cord and waist band, opens up versatile mounting possibilities. If you’d rather not wear the pack on the back of your head, you’ve got options. That adaptability gives you more options for how you wear or mount the battery pack.

How to choose the right setup for your objective

Start with the kind of mission you actually do. If your days regularly begin before dawn, end after dark, or stretch across multiple days, prioritize a headlamp with serious output and adaptable carry options. Big mountain terrain asks a lot from your light, so it helps to choose a model that can handle route finding, camp use, and movement on uneven ground without feeling one-note.

  • Look for high lumen output if you expect to travel on rocky terrain or need to see farther ahead.
  • Choose fast adjustment if conditions change often and you want to shift brightness without breaking rhythm.
  • Pick multiple color modes if preserving night vision matters during transitions, camp tasks, or map checks.
  • Consider mounting flexibility if you wear a helmet, change layers often, or want the battery pack off your head.

It also helps to think about convenience, not just raw power. A lamp that remembers your last brightness setting can save time when you’re moving early and want fewer steps between stopped and rolling. And if comfort is a priority, a design with alternate battery-pack placement can be easier to integrate into a full alpine kit.

The short version: choose a headlamp that balances visibility, control, night-use versatility, and fit adaptability. In the mountains, the best feature set is the one that keeps your system simple when everything else gets complicated.

Good, but turns on in your pack

This headlamp has been amazing for me, with one decent issue. I have opened my pack just find it turned on, or other times I've pulled it out to use just to find the battery life depleted or dead. (From turning itself on in the pack). I am a little surprised/disappointed it happens as much as it has regarding the size and nature of its power button. I highly recommend any potential buyers pack ample extra batteries alongside this headlamp, especially if you will rely on it. In all other regards, I have been very satisfied with it. It's performance and brightness is very good, it shines bright and seems to have amazing battery life. (When not being on inside a pack) The different modes are great. I personally like the battery cover latch, I have an older black diamond headlamp with the older style latch which I didn't care for. The latch is much easier and faster to change out batteries, which did simplify battery changes.

my go-to headlamp

Primary use is hunting and military. Simple and intuitive controls with dependable battery life. I’ve put this headlamp through the gamut of weather conditions and temperatures and never have to pull out the backup. My only recommendation would be moving the battery status lights to the side or even the back. Especially when working with low light, turning off the light and having bright blue light directly in your eyes isn’t ideal.

Excellent headlamp that was on sale. Easy to use and is lightweight. I use it in the shop, fixing in the engine bay, and I also use it snowmobiling.

Love it!

Wasn't sure if I needed the extra features (water-proof and red/green/blue lighting). I used/needed every feature on the very first outing. It's user friendly, and worth every penny.

Most phenomenal headlamp I've ever worn!

I've been using this headlamp for just the past few weeks but its been absolutely fantastic so far, makes me want to toss the other crappy ones I still have lol. super adjustable and intuitive to use, I also got a Cosmo for my dad and he loves both for everything from climbing, hiking, and working on cars and stuff around the house. Amazing product BD!!

Amazing

Put my new Storm 450 to use immediately and was not disappointed. The illumination is great, it is a powerful spotlight with a wide-angle beam. I really like the ability to increase brightness with a tap of the finger, and the red, green, and blue light modes are very useful and cool.

Great headlamp

I’ve had many Black Diamond headlamps over the years and they have all performed well. I like the extra water resistance and brightness of the Storm 450 compared to the Spot series for a small weight and size penalty. Great combination of feature for those pre Dawn adventures.

brian p.Verified Buyer

Very bright

I've used this headlamp several times to get into the duck blind, and out. The light intensity can be adjusted for what you need at the time. It's very easy to get it to high beam with one touch. The ability to choose between red light and green light help with eye adjustment in early mornings.

Great headlamp overall

I really like the small compact form factor of the headlamp. I like the high-low beam option on the side of the headlamp just by touching the side. I've used this headlamp for a few years now for hunting, and performed well. The only cons/dislikes I have is 1: battery compartment is hard to open when your hands are cold. , 2: not having a case or an option for a case pitches, so your lens does not get scratched or roughed up when packing away in a pouch, backpack, or pocket. Would really like to see the case option for the headlamps

Perfect for Stormy Nights

I use this headlamp all the time. It’s wide lens is perfect for climbing. The spot is perfect for hiking and running. Red for stargazing and other low light activities. Being able to switch between AAA and lithium ion batteries makes this a versatile beast. Hope this helps you through your next storm.

Best headlamp!

When it comes to headlamps, Black Diamond is the best, and the Storm 450 is the best of the best. I have a Black Diamond Cosmos headlamp which is great---so great that I then got a Black Diamond Spot 400 which is even better. So when the Storm 450 was on sale, I figured it was time to go for even better. Having great lighting on the trail and around the campsite is very important to me since I do a lot of solo backpacking. The Storm 450 provides the best lighting I've enjoyed so far. The dual power source (alkaline batteries or the rechargeable lithium battery) on both the Spot 400 and the Storm 450 is an excellent feature too. The only advantage I see of the Spot 400 is that it weighs about a half ounce less on my scale than the Storm 450. That might be important to someone counting every gram.

more than a headlamp

This is the first light that has gained my full trust. Don't bother with batteries, get the BD 1500 rechargeable system and don't look back. I run this lamp a minimum of 40 mins a day and maybe recharge once a month. When I'm not wearing the lamp, I shorten the strap, turn the light to red and use it as a dog collar when walking my dog in the dark. Cars see us from a distance and slow down. My favorite piece of gear.

Dependability bar none

I purchase Black Diamond headlamps exclusively because of their build quality and dependability. The Storm 450 is no exclusion to that. Love the dual fuel capability, comfort level, ruggedness, and performance. Not the first Black Diamond I've purchased and most certainly won't be the last.

great headlamp and I will purchase again.

This is my second headlamp. I like it. Learn how to use the buttons properly and it will likely fit your needs. My favorite feature is the locking mechanism so that your lamp doesn't get turned on accidentally while in your pack. The strap on my new lamp is skinnier than the old one I had. I prefer the thicker version but that is not a deal breaker or anything. I like that I can use regular triple A batteries or purchase the rechargeable battery. It just gives me more options. Overall this is a great headlamp and I will purchase again.

Thinner Head Strap

I've been using the BD storm headlamps through several iterations. When the latest one came out with a thinner head strap I was a bit worried for fitment and saturability but this turned out to be just fine. Light doesn't disappoint. The deletion of one battery does make it easier to change them out and lightens the lamp up a bit at the sacrifice of run time.

Great headlamp at a bargain (sale) price

This headlamp was perfect for camping and backpacking. I also use it to walk my dog earlier in the morning and late at night. It's bright, lightweight, and has a number of great features, especially for the price, which was on sale for me. Black Diamond headlamps are the best!

Third one I’ve bought

This is the best lamp I’ve used in a while. There is an issue with the battery cover, the clasp is prone to breaking…but the replacement is an easy warranty piece, and holds strong

Loved th light... While it lasted

Fantastic light with great features and intuitive controls. Unfortunately though after only moderate use the clasp to the battery department has broken and this light is no longer practically useful. Hate to see this one go, as I am a fan of the interface and features compared to the rechargeable offerings, but this is a design flaw that will need to be addressed before I can trust it any further. Really hope they can work this one out in the future!

Great all around headlamp

I got myself two of these when my last generation model died on me (after many years of use) and they've been great. I always keep one with me with an extra rechargeable battery when I got ski touring and they're a staple for camping. The RGB is great and the ramping spot/flood system works great for most applications

nathaniel bVerified Buyer

Good backup headlamp, poor primary light

The flashlight itself performs well enough to be used around camp, but for outdoor activities, I'd recommend getting something with a greater lumen output. The clasp on the back of my headlamp broke quite unexpectedly after just a few months. Looking at the clasp, it's obviously not designed to last very long, as the connection is made of relatively thin plastic.

free t.Verified Buyer

A blinding experience.

The tap to full brightness feature often blinds me when I reach up to adjust the headlamp. The tap sensor is extremely sensitive to any touch, unlike the two actual buttons.

20+ Years of BD Storms

I've had Storms for probably 20+ years. Of the original 4 I'm down to one still going strong. One one failed while two 'disappeared'. I 'was' a Petzl headlamp person. . . The Zoom (who remembers that battery!), Variations of Tikka's and then moved to DB. Bit make goos stuff but I like dealing with BD when something goes wrong. . . Generally the company, like Patagonia or Nordstroms just make is right. . . So when I had the chance I moved to BD Storms. The last iteration I had had 4 AAA batteries and a longer run time but I'd rather save a little weight (over all and bounce) so I'm thrilled with the new current model (8/2025). I use it for everything; Backpacking, Mountaineering, BC Skiing in a pinch, car repair, and looking under the bed. It's great, love the dimmable red light. Not sure I will use the green or blue but it doesn't add weight so what ever. I did not want the rechargeable version with the built in batter because I wanted the option to use AAAs. You never know where you will be in the world and you can get AAAs anywhere. AND regardless of how great lithium ion batteries are currently they still die. They all do. ALL OF THEM. . . so wanted the ability to replace the batteries, either with a new lithium ion or AAAs. A gripe - I would have give 5 stars if the I could charge the rechargeable BD 1500 Lith batteries without the huge bulky charger. Yes that would add bulk, weight and size but if I "could" recharge the removable battery with in the unit or directly while outside the unit (think micro or usbc) it would make this set up way more versatile. Charge a battery on the go with a solar panel on you pack, or directly from you power cell. . . or your phone. Anyways. . . thats my only grip. As for brightness, there is no reason you would need more Lumens than this outside of activities where you are moving fast. . . Night Skiing, Night Trail Running, Night Biking. . . If you're just walking. . . this thing is plenty bright. All the little beady eyes out there will still light up 50+ yards away:-)

Versatile and Solid

This headlamp provides a wide range of versatility with a spot beam and flood beam that have adjustable intensity (battery saver!) for any situation. It also has red, green, and blue lights and a locking feature so it doesn't turn on accidentally in your bag. It's small and light weight and you can use alkaline or a rechargeable battery cell. It's also waterproof! I've used this model for years and it's all I need. I just bought the newest version for me and my wife for backpacking trips and we love them.

BEST HEADLAMP ON THE MARKET. Fantastic product. I've been the die hard who has been holding out on switching to Rechargeable battery systems. This one is top notch and I should have transitioned a long time ago. Eliminates the problems with regular battery corrosion and the battery life of these little packs is really amazing. Fantastic product. And for the price, you can easily justify carrying an extra one for those long multiple night hauls ! Headlamp functions are really simple to use and shockingly bright. Easy to pack and will take a ravishing amount of punishment.

Save your receipt.

Save your receipt because you are going to need it when you submit the warranty claim to have the broken latch replaced. The light works great, but the latch is garbage. The latch broke the first time within a day of purchase. Scheels kindly replaced it. The replacement lasted a little over a year until the latch broke in the same spot. Unfortunately, I no longer have the receipt so I am out of luck.

Great Light, poor construction

I really enjoyed having this light for about two years. I even purchased the rechargeable battery to go along with it. I love all the features with color options on the red light, and memory for brightness. Two big flaws in construction though, one is the battery indicator light is on the bottom and is on for a few seconds after you turn the light off, essentially blinding you when you turn the light off. The second is that the plastic latch to keep it water resistant and the battery seated, snapped in half after just under 2 years of use making the light inoperable. Warranty is still covered but replacement is a slight headache if you can't find the receipt through an authorized seller. Happy to have had the use I got out of it but I will be looking a different direction for lights.

Love this Headlamp ❤️‍🔥

I’ve always been a bit of a flashlight guy. As a kid I cost my dad a small fortune in D cells running down his baseball bat sized Maglite. I’ve been through more headlamps than I can count over the years. I picked up this particular one a few months ago and I have to say it has been by far the best headlamp I’ve ever had. The door fuel capability comes in handy, and the functions on this light are super useful and navigable. It’s great to having the brightness memory as well as the powertap feature to be able to instantly switch to max and back. One feature that stands out is the way each mode dims/brightens. I haven’t seen that on a light before. It also seems a lot brighter than 450 lumens at max. If you’re looking for a good reliable headlamp I truly don’t think in any way you could go wrong with these. Hope this helps

My Favorite Headlamp

I needed a new headlamp as for me my old Storm is hard to push the buttons to change the colors. I thought it was time for an update. Sub-par replacement for BD Revolt

I got this as the equivalent replacement for my BD Revolt I bought back in 2016 that finally stopped working consistently with the rechargeable batteries. The Revolt got heavy use and I was happy with it. When this arrived I was very surprised to see that it did not come with rechargeable batteries like the Revolt had (I should have ready the description I guess, but I assumed since they were included with the Revolt…) especially since this headlamp was not cheap. The buttons on top are very sensitive (my hand brushed it barely and it changed lighting setting) and have WAY too many settings for my needs (who needs a blue, green AND red light? Sorry). These are all things I can live with, but the thing that drives me nuts and makes me not want to even use the thing are that the blue battery indicator lights come on EVERY time I turn the thing off and they shine right into my eyes. What terrible placement. When I turn off my light I don’t want blue light shining in and blinding my eyes.

I’m not very happy – I’ve owned this less than a month and it’s already broken. I always take a headlamp with me whenever I travel. I was away this weekend packed my headlamp and somehow upon unpacking the headlamp was damaged. From the picture, the clasp that keep the battery compartment closed snapped. What’s most frustrating is I wasn’t out in the elements. If it couldn’t survive a trip in my car in a duffle bag, what chance would it stand in the outside world. I’ve owned headlamps since the 90’s, and I’ve never had to consider them as delicate, Black Dimond this can only be considered a poor design. PS. I loved everything else about the light except this cheaply made weak point.

Best headlight Ive ever owned. Strong light, easy and simple buttons. However, after a rainy day in my pack somehow water got into the battery housing and now the battery life is only a few days of use.

It Functions

Not sure how much of an improvement this is Over the 5 y/o version I had previously. Pros: -Lighter and smaller -maybe brighter for the money? -Accepts AAA batteries Cons: -Plastic of body seems cheaper and less durable -Two button design is a huge downgrade from the single button version that kept things simple once you knew the pressing sequences

Weak battery latch, Broke twice, on two different generations of storm headlight.

Why don't you upgrade the battery latch!?!? I saw a lot of reviews complaining about it breaking. The lamp is awesome but I see no point in investing in a rechargeable battery if you cant even close the battery cap after a few use.

Good

Had mine for about three years before the latch just gave up. I used it in red almost every night around the house, often to navigate to the bathroom without waking my wife. Also white or strobe when walking in the dark. (I like dark.) The touch-max feature was used frequently, and changing batteries is easy, but never tried to do it in the dark. Max brightness was more than enough to navigate our dark yard, but of the most value when trying to connect an irrigation fitting at the bottom of a hole in broad daylight. It takes a lot of light to bounce enough back that you can see to work with. I never had a use for any color except red or white. Caught in heavy rain a few times but that did not bother it. The red is thought to be too bright around telescopes and astronomical instruments. When the latch broke it became unusable, flopping on the hinge. I tried to tape it but it seems made of a material that tape will not stick to. I plan to try another.

Unparalleled brightness, battery life, and control

I am a Park Ranger and in my free time I hunt, fish, hike, and camp. As such, I rely heavily on my outdoor gear. By far this is the best all around headlamp I have ever used. There is a great balance in the brightness and battery life. Not to mention the intuitive controls allow you to dial in the brightness to the perfect level. The full brightness setting allows you to flood an area with light if you are on a search and rescue and looking for an injured or lost hiker. Not to mention if you walk away from camp and get turned around in the dark it allows you to turn up your brightness to help find your way. I also appreciate how easy it is to lower the brightness to the perfect level. When doing things around camp or hiking into a hunting or fishing spot I like to use just enough light to see. I use these headlamps not only in the field but around the house when I have to crawl into the attic or I need some extra light when working on my truck. I would highly recommend picking yourself up one or two. You won’t regret it.

Weak battery compartment latch

I was initially pleased with this model: it was bright, lightweight, and easy to use. However, my satisfaction turned to disappointment when I discovered a broken latch after it fell into the hands of a child. If even a 4-year-old could break it, I doubt its durability on challenging terrain. Since there are no replacement parts available, I'll likely have to dispose of it due to its inability to function properly.

Broken battery latch

I bought a storm 350 about 10 years ago, and l was very pleased with the overall functionality of the headlamp, l personally think that they surpassed most of the others brands, just because the versatility to be able to dim, lock , memory, your headlamps have some of the best functions on the market, l used that headlamp from hiking, fishing, hunting, camping…etc. and it will accommodate to pretty much any environment or circumstance. The thing that l liked the most was the battery latch screw in system. One time l was on a tree stand 18ft above the ground, and l dropped the headlamp, when l got down the light was solid, finally not to long ago l was surf fishing at night and dropped the light l thought I lost it and for my surprise, the waves brought it back, still lid on and apparently no problems, l unscrewed and little ocean water with sand was on, but evidently it damaged something inside and stopped working, that light was a tank! . Sadly l purchase last week a new storm 450 and l was blown away with the new features, and well known technology on the new storm 450, l went outside and was testing the lights patterns, when a was taking the headlamp out of my head l dropped, and the battery latch BROKE. So it was clear to me, that that headlamp or any of Black Diamond headlamp with that latching system wouldn’t make it 10 years. Taking in consideration that the new one just maki it few hrs. SO BLACK DIAMOND GUYS YOU NEED TO RETURN BACK TO THE SCREW IN LATCH SYSTEM and your headlamps will be a TANK!. So far l will not buy another headlamp from this company until the latching system is improved. So far looks like the overall functionality of your lights still be reliable, just for that flaw, the light is not worth to carry around, is not dependable. Thanks

Best headlamp I’ve had

I got this as a replacement for my old storm headlamp, this one is small and light but has the same power and benefits! I use it for SAR and when I’m at work and it just stays in my pocket

Good but not Great

I bought this to replace an older Black Diamond headlight so I’ll be comparing the new to the old. The new one is lightweight and super bright. It looks great and much easier to use the strobe light. Now, the not so great parts: the case is very hard to open to change batteries. I had to use a tool to pry open the clip. The strap is narrower making it a little less comfortable. Finally, the off/on switch is much smaller than the older model which makes it more difficult to operate with gloves on. Overall, I like the light and am keeping it but wish it had kept the features I mentioned.

Plenty of light

I use my light daily to trail run in winter. Gives off plenty of light. Love the ease of use. Unfortunately the catch that holds the batteries broke the first time I used it. This is the second BD headlamp that has done this to me. Is there a replacement part for this? I still use it but, with electrical tape to hold it closed.

Love my lamps...headlamps that is!

I acquired a couple of Black Diamond Storm 450 headlamps just before Christmas this year shortly after I bought my first on about two weeks earlier. The quality put into these products is excellent, but wait! They possess "Dual fuel" power ; which means they can be powered both by conventional batteries and USB rechargeable batteries. How cool is that? Black Diamond outfitters also offer several colors for these beauties to light up your life in more ways than one. Now I have three headlamps, a recharging block, and three rechargeable batteries; surely enough to "enlighten" all parts of any conditions.

Poor design

This is possibly the worst designed headlamp I have used because of a simple but fatal flaw. The clasp that secures the battery compartment is guaranteed to the fail making this headlamp unreliable and dangerous.

Dead reliable so far…

This lamp has worked really well do date. This includes some early morning jaunts during wet, cold, miserable conditions under the red led. I like that it is fully sealed, including the port for the charger. I’ve yet to come close to running the battery down, including some cold overnights in the tent. I find the tap to touch brightness thing annoying, but that is more personal preference than anything. Functionality wise it works exactly as designed.

Great Headlamp!

This is the 3rd or 4th BD headlamp I have had over the years and they keep getting better! Simple, easy to use controls(even with gloves), versatile types of light for different tasks, easy battery swaps (though the battery life is great). Overall great product.

Great light

I use my headlamp for hunting and it works awesome. Plenty of light to navigate my boat or set decoys and I like being able to dim it when that much light ain’t needed. Had an issue with my light after a couple seasons and they warrantied it and have a new one on the way. Solid customer service

jakeVerified Buyer

Great Light, could have some small improvements to make even better.

This light deserves 5 stars, but there are a few tweaks that could make it even better. I love the dual fuel option, to use a rechargeable battery, but have back-up batteries if needed. Switching between lights is easy and efficient, great brightness, and using the red light is bright enough to actually see. Where it could improve? The battery indicator is located on the bottom, and is a very bright blue light. When you turn it off, it flashes straight down into your eyes, and is a little blinding, especially when you are hiking in under red-light. I resolved with a little tape over it, but then you can't see the battery power. Locking the light also turns on the front lights (blue) flashing. older lights used to use the battery indicator. This is a little brighter and flashier than really needed. Overall I am completely happy with this light, and will use for a long time!

Storm 450 - Great for runners

I love this head lamp. Six years ago I purchased my first headlamp for running from a French company specializing in such devices. I really liked it but one day I wore it in the rain and it never worked again :0 After that I bought a "no-name" headlamp which was relatively inexpensive and worked ok but didn't have all the features I really wanted - and it was much bigger and felt clunky on my forehead. I went online and found EXACTLY what I was looking for at Black Diamond. As a runner I want a headlamp to be able to do TWO things: 1. Cast a constant bright beam when running in the dark so I can see where I'm going and where my feet are landing. 2. Convert to a strobe/flashing light when I'm running in high-traffic areas where it's important for me to be seen. It's hard to find a headlamp that has both features but the Storm 450 does. The headlamp is very light and has a low profile - it's not clunky at all. Also it has a locking battery compartment with a tight seal - I'm not at all worried about wearing it in the rain. I expect this to be the last headlamp I purchase for a long while :)

Quality as usual

This is the second Black Diamond light that I have purchased. The first one is still going strong after years of use in the barn. I bought this one to carry in our vehicle in case of a break down while travaling.

What a light, and what exceptional customer service.

I have owned the Storm 450 for a little over a year now. In that time it has been my go to for camping, fishing, house work, and all around hands free illumination needs. The settings and adjustments for the different lights have been way more useful than I thought they would be and the battery life has been on par with my needs. My only con thus far is that the battery indicator kind of blinds me when I turn it off. However, it is a small trade to make for all the other sweet features that it has. Recently the latch broke on the door that holds the batteries in the device. I thought for sure I would be up a creek, but with a quick chat with customer service (shout out to Bailey) I was dispatched a replacement part straight to my door. Closing thoughts: Just get the thing, awesome light with a quality name behind it. NUFF SAID

Great for camping or everyday use

This headlamp is lightweight, bright, and easy to use. The beam is powerful enough for night hiking and camp tasks, and adjustable so it’s not blinding when doing close-up work. Battery life is great and lasts a while for my needs. The headband is comfortable and stays in place even during movement. This headlamp is reliable and I’ll continue bringing it on camping or hiking trips.

Great Light for Early Morning Trail Runs

Faithful companion on my weekly runs. Simple operation and plenty of lumens to light the way. Relatively stingy on battery power - all in all a great headlamp

chris b.Verified Buyer

Bad rechargeable Integration

Works well with AAA batteries, but does not integrate/fit the rechargeable battery well. It is very tight with so much tension on the terminals that it fails to retain the battery without carefully guiding the battery door closed; immediately falls out when opened. Lighting options and brightness are good with diverse color options.

Storm 450 Azul

Placed order of 3 Storm 450 headlamps on Aug 31, 2023 and received them. December 12, 2023 the plastic battery cover latch broke after replacing the batteries for the first time. I am very disappointed as these headlamps are supposed to be very reliable. This renders the performance of the headlamp useless. I am hoping the latch does not fail on my other 2 headlamps I purchased.

Nice headlamp, haven’t used it yet

Received this today and it seems to be a nice piece. App read to be well made, also looks to be fairly durable as long as it isn’t sat on with the hinge in a funny position (but that should go without saying for just about any hinged headlamp). There are more than a couple of features - 3 individual lights that can be used individually or in combination, a button to switch directly to ‘full bright’ for the individual light selected (keep in mind that if you are using the main large light, tapping full bright will also turn on the smaller light and will turn them both up to full brightness, tapping the full bright button again goes back to your prior setting), 3 different LED colors, and an SOS feature for the red light (however this doesn’t work on my light for some reason). The down side - the tap button can be hard to use, and (on my headlamp at least) the SOS feature doesn’t t seem to work. In my opinion having a button with positive affirming action (a noticeable click or depression feel) is better than the finicky tapping buttons which never seem to work very well, no matter who designs them. Not sure if it would have been that much heavier to have an actual button on the side for ‘full bright’ vs the tap feature, or maybe that’s just so they can say ‘tap feature’ on the advertising, or maybe this is extremely useful for mountaineering or rock climbing. I do not currently do any of those things, so I cannot say. Overall it seems worth the money, but I believe it has been discontinued and replaced with a new model at this time. Hopefully the new model has a better button and a working SOS feature.
