You can shop the Norda 001 G+ Spike Shoe - Women's here, and you can review the product details before you commit. That matters with a shoe like this, because it is built for wild trails and wet conditions, with traction-focused features underfoot.
This is not your everyday jog-around-town pair. The build is purpose-driven, with an abrasion-resistant Dyneema upper for durability, a waterproof membrane to help shut out wet trail conditions, and steel teeth on the sole for traction. In other words, it is made for the kind of outings where the ground fights back a little.
If you're shopping this model, the product page keeps the key details in one place. No fluff, no guesswork—just the details that matter when you are choosing footwear for unpredictable terrain.
One quick heads-up straight from the build itself: those steel teeth are meant for the trail, not indoor floors. Save these for the messy stuff outside, where they belong.
The big story here is traction. The sole uses gripping steel teeth, which gives this shoe a very different feel from standard trail footwear. When the trail turns slick, sloppy, or firm in all the wrong ways, that extra bite helps you stay more connected to the ground instead of tiptoeing through every step.
Up top, the abrasion-resistant Dyneema upper brings serious toughness to the package. On rough trails, shoes take a beating from rocks, roots, and general trail chaos. This material is there to help the upper hold up when conditions get scrappy.
The waterproof membrane rounds things out with weather protection for wet outings. That does not just mean puddles—it also matters when the trail is saturated, the forecast is moody, or the day starts dry and finishes with soaked feet if your footwear is not up for it.
Put it all together, and this is a shoe for runners and hikers who do not bail when the trail gets weird. It is built to meet the mess head-on.
The easiest way to choose this shoe is to start with terrain. If your routes regularly involve wet ground or conditions where extra traction is useful, this model makes a lot of sense. The steel teeth are the giveaway: this is a traction-focused option built for specific trail conditions.
Think about your typical outing. If you spend most of your time on dry, smooth paths or moving between town and trail, a spiked build may be more shoe than you need. But if your calendar does not stop for ugly conditions, the steel-tooth outsole and waterproof construction can be a real advantage when the trail turns unpredictable.
If that sounds like your kind of run or fast-moving trail day, you are looking in the right place. This shoe is built for the moments when the trail stops playing nice.
Backcountry is built for people who care about the details, and this shoe is all about details that matter on trail. When you are buying specialized footwear with a waterproof membrane, an abrasion-resistant Dyneema upper, and steel teeth underfoot, it helps to shop with a crew that speaks fluent gear.
That is where our Gearhead® Expert team comes in. “I’ve put hundreds of miles on the 001 and it still blows me away. The upper barely shows wear, the grip is unreal in wet or dry conditions, and it’s incredibly light for the amount of stability and protection it provides. This is my go-to for long technical efforts.”
Dyneema is an ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene fiber known for its incredible strength and lightweight properties. In running shoes, Dyneema is used in the upper material, providing exceptional durability and resistance to abrasion while remaining breathable. This means your shoes will last longer and keep your feet comfortable during long runs.
So far these Nordas have been awesome! I’ve raced them in Western NC and have put about 300 miles in one pair. They still feel like new and the tread looks great! These are perfect for those longer run/hike days and feel pretty quick when needing to pick it up on race day. Last run I did had a 5 mile downhill on packed gravel. These shoes allowed me to cruise down with no issues. Like Norda suggests, I bought a half size up and they fit great. Usually an 11, bought an 11.5. I also just went with my euro size, which remained the same in the shoe. If I had to have one annoying thing, it would be the pull tab on the heel. Sometimes little rocks or dirt gets into the shoe there and gets trapped under the foot. But I like these so much that I just ordered the 002 model for some faster, shorter runs. Excited for those!
I’m less than 100 miles in, but these shoes have been great so far. The toe box is wide without being sloppy, the vibram midsole/outsole combination provides a responsive, grippy ride while still allowing for a decent amount of trail feel given the stack height. No foot fatigue on longer runs. The upper has been good so far as well. I have several packs and miscellaneous items for traveling that are made out of dyneema and I have used them for over 12 years with zero failures, so the dyneema upper that Norda uses caught my attention. So far, so good. They do require some break in, but it was worth the time and effort. I haven’t run in anything but these since I got them. The price is high, so obviously I’m hoping to get the advertised mileage and longevity from them, but no regrets so far. I did have to size up by a half a size.
The best fitting, most supportive, longest lasting shoes I’ve ever run in! I’ve put more than 1,000 miles on more than one pair. The uppers are in perfect condition with zero failures. I’ve never had a shoe that has felt like it’s actually a part of my foot. No slipping no sliding around no blisters. I couldn’t recommend the, any more!
I’m a trail runner always in search of “the shoe”. Needless to say, I have a closet full of various road and trail shoes. My favorite brands are Salomon and On and I prefer a snugger shoe. I don’t require nor do I like a plush Hoka ride. Due to an injury early in 2023 and 6 months off of running I thought I’d branch out and hook up a new pair of kicks to get me back into running form. Given the outstanding reviews (aside from the price) I decided to grab a pair of Norda 002. I loved them! The reviews and comments on the 001 were maybe even better than the 002 (except for the heel lock down) so given my happiness with the 002 and a sale I splurged and hooked up a pair. Well, I love them more than the 002!!! Let me give you my take on the “Bond shoes” after about 10 runs in each (trail, road, races). 1. The 002 is lighter and has slightly less drop and is probably a better race shoe and good for short to mid distance runs. 2. The 002 has a thinner yet cushioned sole and thus you feel a little more under foot. I feel little to nothing under foot in the 001 and they are a really smooth ride. 3. There is more room in the toe box of the 002 than the 001. I have the same size in both and the 002 feels has less room up front and feels smaller. 4. Again, the 001 is roomier but not wide (I’m kind of a mid sized width foot). 5. Size up! If you have some shoes that are 11 in a brand and some 11.5 in the same brand go with the 11.5 in the Norda! When in doubt size up!. (Maybe even consider a FULL size in the 002). 6. The heel lockdown. If the shoe is the correct size it is not an issue and I get a really good (90-95%) lockdown. However, my right foot is a half size smaller and I get about an 80-85% lockdown even with additional lacing, etc. Thicker trail socks help. Speaking of socks…difficult to wear a thick trail sock in the 002 size for size. It can be done but its snugggg! 7. Both shoes are great in mud, wet roads, pavement, rocks, dirt or whatever and the wider outsole is very stable. 8. 001 is a more cushioned ride but still feels pretty light and durable and would be a great shoe to go long in. 9. Both look awesome! My wife just about sleeps in them (she has a Lilac 001 pair). 10. I love the feel of the upper and I don’t know if its waterproof but it holds water out quite well. I really like my Salomon S/lab Ultra 3 and On Cloudultra but I’m a Norda fan now. The reports are that they may last twice as long as many other shoes which would make them a good value. They are expensive, so look for markdowns and sales and make sure you size up. Both 00 make for a great running experience.
Lightweight, durable and very solid under foot on technical terrain.
Super excited to give these a spin. Being one of the few shoes on the market that has a Vibram midsole along with a fully Dyneema upper. After the 300-mile mark on rough and rocky east coast trails, I can confidently say these are taking a beating and have no sign of slowing down. Little to no wear on the sole, upper, or toe cap. Zero compression after long days on the feet and they grip like no other, One of the few shoes that I've recently tried that I can put my full confidence in when cooking downhill. Sizing is a bit tricky. I am a size 12 in almost all other brands ( Hoka, Salomon, Saucony, Altra ect ) and these fit but only with very thin socks. Any trail-based thickness socks like darn tough create sizing issues. I would most likely bump up a half size next time to prevent this issue, but they are still comfortable. The only other downside is the lack of draining in these. With a Dyneema upper, they don't breathe super well and have zero drain ports on the side of the shoes. Would and will buy again. ##BackcountryGearhead
Great shoe, especially given this one of their first models (young company). Shoe fits small, maybe 1/2 size to full size small, depending on your preference. I wear 11.5 in HOKA and most shoes, and I bought 11.5's before the general feedback about sizing was available. Hindsight, a pair of size 12's might have been better, but after 20-30 miles they broke in nicely. Pros: Incredible stability, grip, and general traction in extremely technical terrain. Cons: Tongue could be longer and back heel cup stitching is a little abrasive. Overall 4 stars because this is a new relatively new shoe and its hard to nail it on the first go. Expecting to get 600+ miles
This shoe is so beautiful looking that it belongs on a fashion runway! The length of the shoe was spot-on for me. The description says it runs short so I purchased a 12.5 and it was ideal but as a point of reference, I also wear a 12.5 in Nike, Adidas and Hoka's whereas I am always a 12 in Salomon. So, is the short short or the same as other popular brands? The shoe has some volume but pulling the laces gave a snug yet comfortable fit. It was a very good fit overall except the ankle collar. It is very wide around with thin material; it is comfortable but despite using the heel-lock lacing method, I could not get a seal and there was always a gap - a perfect place for trail debris to enter. I do have thin ankles so this situation is likely specific to this. I have used other shoes with Vibram megagrip litebase and they wore fairly well; I question if these soles will last about the same. The upper will probably last forever,
