    Arc'teryx performance for your feet.

After years of producing high-quality outerwear, Arc'teryx finally turns its gaze to hikers' and alpinists' feet, with the Men's Acrux FL GTX Approach Shoe's innovative design and ultralight performance. The Acrux FL GTX has that same unique style and performance that we all expect from Arc'teryx. For starters, Arc'teryx constructed the Adaptive Fit liner separately from the upper in order to hug your foot with breathable, quick-drying mono-mesh for a truly customized fit.

Arc'teryx slipped Gore-Tex's Performance Comfort Stretch membrane inside the Adaptive Fit liner for extremely reliable waterproof, breathable protection. Unlike standard membranes that only provide partial coverage, Performance Comfort Stretch wraps entirely around the foot from top to bottom in order to maximize protection like never before.

The Acrux FL GTX also features a lightweight and surprisingly durable seamless upper designed to handle rock, snow, and ice with ease. This seamless upper features a non-woven, DWR-treated internal surface that sheds wet weather, PU-coated nylon for air permeability and abrasion-resistance, and TPU film for enhanced support and durability. The two top lace holes have integrated reinforcements to reduce stretching.

Underfoot, Arc'teryx equipped the Acrux FL GTX with a premium injected EVA midsole designed for stability and enhanced braking. The 3D molded toe and heel caps buffer impact, offer rock protection, and resist cracking. There's also an anatomical arch shank, and the custom-developed 3D molded Ortholite footbed offers maximum comfort and breathability.

Vibram's brand new MegaGrip rubber makes the Acrux's sole fine-tuned for any trail. Design features include a climbing zone with traction grooves, grippy inserts for smearing, Arc'teryx's RockGrip with anti-slip lugs, and a spherical heel shape for a smooth stride.

Best shoe purchase I've ever made.

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: 11 (but I take 10.5 usually)

I rarely take the time to write reviews online but these shoes made enough of an impression on me....

I purchased these because I needed solid shoes for hiking, serious scrambling, and mild climbing in Hawaii. I originally visited a brick-and-mortar store and upon learning what I wanted to use the shoes for, the store employee recommended the shoes he was wearing (Acrux FL GTX Approach) but stated that that particular retailer didn't carry them in-store anymore. I ordered from BackCountry.com and couldn't be happier with my purchase.

These shoes handled everything I threw at them with ease- the grip of the rubber on rock was superb. I don't think I could have asked for anything better for a shoe that is not a designated climbing shoe.

NOTE: These run SMALL. I take a 10.5, ordered 11, and still needed to wear socks on the thinner size for the ideal fit.

    Arc'teryx awesomeness

These shoes were bought as a go between for my daily wear Merrill shoes and my Danner SF Mountain boots-which are the greatest of all time-these shoes are quickly becoming my new go to shoes for hiking and with gaiters-fill every role. The only downside is that they're tough to put on and you'll need strength to do it-but they fit perfectly and mold well to your feet, and best of all-there is zero break in period.

      More Killer Arcteryx Innovation

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
      • Fit: True to size

These shoes are great, and the product description pretty much covers why.

They are super comfortable with the inner liner and also have the added bonus of drying quickly if your feet get soaked. The Vibram sole is as grippy as you'd imagine, and I have no doubts in its performance on steeper terrain/approaches/climbs (once spring arrives).

The fit and stiffness may take a bit to get used to but, once you do, you will love the versatility of these kicks.

      Great Shoe

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: Runs small

Overall Im very happy with these shoes. Very comfortable and stable. Takes a little getting used to with inner membrane vs normal shoes.

The only thing I would advise for future buyer is make sure you order 1/2 size larger than normal. With socks on your normal size will be tight.

      Comfortable and lightweight!

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size

Bought these to travel with. I wanted something versatile and durable so I wouldn't have to pack multiple pairs of shoes for trips. Very comfortable and lightweight and can be worn all day. They are a little snug but I'm sure these will be broken in.

      Good waterproof shoe

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size

Out here in the Park City/Salt Lake City area there are a lot of winter days that I don't need my full on Sorel winter boots, but need something a bit more substantial than running shoes or the like. To fill this need I got a set of the Arcteryx Bora GTX hiking boots, which will also do double duty for hiking. I love them so much that, and was wearing them often enough, that I thought I'd get a set of these to supplement my boots.

Overall I really like them - they fit like a glove with the inner liner, have good traction in the snow and ice I've worn them on (I haven't taken them off road yet), and are comfortable enough to wear all day long.

Just a couple of minor things I don't love as much as with my boots. First, they're a snugger fit, especially in the toe box. This has improved as I've broken them in, but wasn't something I even had to think about with my boots. Second, they're pretty tough to put on. The have two loops to use to pull your foot in, but I've actually taken to using a shoe horn and the front loop rather than the two loops.

      Look great but very stiff

Great quality & good looks but sole is super stiff & gives the shoe a heavy/cloggy feel

I tend to disagree but this may be a matter of personal preference. I've had dozens of running shoes over four decades and [foolishly] have approach shoes by Scarpa, Salewa, Asolo and now both the AcruxFL and Acrux2FL. They fit intimately with all the contours of your foot; there's no sloppiness. And though I occasionally have to buy 12's or have toebox issues the 11.5's [45.5] are perfect. And then there's the foot strike. Hard, yes, but solid might be better. Again, no unevenness in how your foot meets the surface. For someone often clumsy I find that my footplant is just where I intend. This may not be what everyone is looking for but I'd say that Arc' succeeded.
