A single shell for any mountain pursuit.

You shouldn't need a closet full of shells just to get outside, which is why Arc'teryx designed its Women's Theta AR Jacket with versatility in mind. The Theta AR is decked out with every feature you could ever want on a wet or windy day, regardless of whether you're navigating city streets, skiing at the resort, or doing a little springtime mountaineering. This jacket is more than an exercise in utility—articulated design provides full-range of motion plus feminine styling, so your bright fuchsia manicure isn't the only give-away that you're a lady.

The waterproof, breathable N40p-X Gore-Tex Pro fabric sheds snow like your dog sheds fur in July and still allows excess body heat to escape, so you won't overheat. While waterproofing and breathability are key, the durability of the Gore-Tex Pro fabric makes the Theta AR stand out in a crowd. Tightly woven strands of 40-denier nylon rebuke abrasions and untoward advances by rock faces, ski poles, and sharp branches, all the while remaining soft and supple. The hood attaches at the base of the full stand-up collar, meaning you can zip to your chin and not have the hood hovering around your face. Fully articulated and no-lift gusseted underarms let you stretch for a hold in class three terrain without taking the entire jacket with you, and underarm vents help cool you down if you're hiking through the prelude of a mid-summer monsoon.

    Lovely Jacket

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: medium
    • Height: 5'9"
    • Weight: 150lbs

Recently received my Theta jacket. Purchased to replace a 10 year old version that is still hanging in there. The Black Willow colour is very nice (kind of brown/plum). The fit is great. A bit longer in the back so covers low back when bending over. I am 5'9" and wear a size 8/10 in most clothes so the medium fit great. It is slim fit, but not tight. I have large shoulders and feel I have plenty of room to move and add a couple of layers. Nice articulated elbow design. Great adjustments for hood that allows it to create a covering for my glasses. I love that it is a lightweight shell with no lining. It is a hard-working Gortex that I hope to have for many years. I wore this out during a Vancouver, BC deluge and rain shed instantly. I found the fit was not too large or small as some reviewers have stated. Overall, very happy with my purchase. Great customer service and fast delivery. Note: For some unknown reasons the Theta has been discontinued...however, Arcteryx have informed me that it will return in 2018.

    Falling apart

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

After I got wet to my underpants on a pretty difficult trip in the Alps I promised myself to invest in a really good rain jacket - this one. It is lightweight and kept me dry on my trips. After some light use suddenly all glued seams on the inside started to disintegrate. It started with the glued hook to hang the jacket. Ok - not essential... Than all the tunnels at hip and bottom fell apart - so that the elastic cord came out. I ignored even that because I live in Germany and I thought it's just too much hassle to claim the lifetime warranty in the US. Than the seams at the arms opened and the jacket became a piece of trash. I contacted Arcteryx and to my amazement I found out that their warranty is provided worldwide. I had to send the jacket to Switzerland for repair. Approx 30 USD for shipping. After 6 weeks I received my jacket back. Beautifully repaired. I really suspected they send me a new jacket - only the little flaw on the zipper indicated that this is indeed my 'old' jacket. So far so good.
Now I am in the Alps again. It is raining. I put on my Arcteryx jacket. I feel good. Something blue is dangling in front of my eye.... ? The little plastic reinforcement to keep the hood in shape pierced through the material....
I'm not impressed. What's next? Ship it to Switzerland again? And again? ....
I feel this jacket is good for walking your dog in style on a rainy day. For mountaineering it is just not suitable / reliable enough. .... and i treat my stuff really well!.

    Great jacket!

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: Large
    • Height: 5'9"
    • Weight: 135lbs

Great color (I got the Carnelian color), great fit, great product. Typically, I wear size Medium, but the Large was the last size left... thought I would give it a shot and it fits beautifully. Definitely would recommend considering going a size larger if you are looking to purchase.

Nice coat, great length for taller gals

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: M
    • Height: 5'7"
    • Weight: 140lbs

I bought this coat for backcountry skiing and like the pitzip features, longer length and lighter weight while still being waterproof. I ended up returning the jacket because the pockets just didn't work for my skins as they were too small. The amount of adjustments for a great fit in the coat were very nice and it's a very high quality product. Just not for me.

Finally - a shell for tall girls...

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: Runs small

I bought this after EXTENSIVE research and fitting analysis. I'm an avid snowboarder and I'm 5'9 (34 DDD / Medium Top/ Size 28 Denim) and I was totally over my jackets exposing my bum when locking into my bindings (even w high waisted pants - I couldn't find a gore jacket with decent length). I'm a medium in Arc fleece and their Arc Atom Jacket but ordered the large in this to accomodate for layers - and I'm glad I did. It's a bit big w/o layers but that's to be expected. I layer with a Lululemon base layer and two Arc Rho fleeces or one Rho and one of their thinner half zips and it's been perfect - the snow beads off and the chin-up is the perfect to hide behind w my thick Arc balaclava. I don't wear my hood over my helmet, but it seems like it'd fit if needed. There are two things I'd change: I'd change the price (gasp), BUT I'm a big believer in that you get what you pay for and I'm willing to pay for timeless quality. I'd also change the width of the arms as they are ginormous and unnecessarily oversized. It doesn't effect my performance, but even with layers it's still huge.

    Cold Wet Winters

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
    • Fit: True to size

I got this for my mom who lives in Ohio where it often times rains in the winter at 35 degrees, very miserable. She didn't just want a winter jacket that gets wet and than is useless, she wanted something that would keep her dry that she could layer underneath. This shell is fantastic. My whole family swears by Arcteryx. This Jacket has made everything more enjoyable in the wet/cold months, from walking the dog, to hitting the slopes.

    Awesome Jacket

I really love everything about this jacket! The Mango color is outstanding and the fit perfect (runs about standard). I wore it hiking in drizzle and stayed dry as a bug in a rug. Very comfy and looks great!!!

Length was shorter than I expected

      • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
      • Fit: True to size

Although, I loved the viridian color and the pockets, but the jacket hit at the top of my thighs, and barely covered my backside. I am 5'6". I am returning it, as I I already have a GoreTex golf jacket in this length, and really wanted a longer jacket.

      First Impressions

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
      • Fit: True to size

I just purchased this jacket, and have yet to try it in wet conditions. I did loads of research online, and came to the conclusion that this jacket ran large. I am about 120lbs, 36" bust, slim waist. The small fit perfectly, over a long sleeve T-shirt. But as soon as I added a fleece, it was too snug, and pulled across my shoulders. I ordered a medium, and that seems to be the right size. Tried on with a tank top, long sleeve shirt, fleece vest, and down shell (way more layers than I would actually wear) - I still had full range of movement when I crossed my arms and swung them back and forth.

I love the length of a the jacket. I struggled between the Beta AR and the similar jacket with a snow skirt. I chose this one because it comes down to right below my rear end. Great for sitting on wet surfaces (just like the North Face coat I am replacing).

The price tag is/was very hard to swallow. I was expecting a shell that felt a little softer - more like cloth. Jacket is well made -- but I don't like that it's made in China -- for that price tag. Looked everywhere to be able to pay below retail for this, but couldn't find a reputable online dealer (and I didn't want one in black, which is what everyone had).

Long story short, I will probably keep it, very light weight, perfect length, seems to do what it says it will do. If you don't mind the price tag, then go for it.

I have purchased from Backcountry in the past -- they have a great customer service, which one of the reasons why I chose to purchase from them.
