You could just rely on your pockets to carry your phone, keys, and cash, but then you'd have to go without all the good stuff. Not only does the Arc'teryx Slingblade 4 Shoulder Bag have room for all the essentials, but you'll have some extra space for gum, candy, lip balm, a book, some candy, and whatever else you like to have on hand during the day.

Call this whatever you want. Man-purse. murse, european carryall, manny pack, shoulder bag, or my personal favorite... satchel (Indiana Jones has one). I freaking love this bag and don't go anywhere without it. I've always hated having stuff in my pockets, but figured that as a dude you just lived with it. Well after getting fed up with my increasing carry needs, getting this bag changed the game and freed up all my pockets and I now have so much more room for activities.
Strap is comfortable for extended use and can be adjusted to whatever length works best for you in whatever fashion you choose to wear it, though Id highly recommend the crossbody. The design and functionality of the layout and pockets of the bag is exactly what you would expect from Arc'teryx, let me tell you about them.
Starting at the back of bag which will be closest to you when wearing it is a phone slot just under the grab handle, such a small feature, but honestly one of my favorites. Deep enough that I never worry about it bouncing out or anything, but not so deep that its a pain in the ass to get your phone out every time, a veritable goldilocks of phone pockets. It also seems to be slightly padded which is a nice touch. Fits my Galaxy S10 phone perfectly.
Next is the main comparment of the bag, and the biggest pocket. It has full divider in it essentially creating a sort of tablet sleeve in the back of the pocket if you want to use it that way but doesnt take up any room if not used. This will be where your biggest items go, water bottles, hard sunglass case, a book, etc. In the top of this large main compartment is a smaller zippered pocket the width of the bag thats great to keep small items secure and easily accessible.
Moving another pocket forward is the horizontal zippered pocket that is the middle pocket of the bag and is just as great as the last one. This one is slimmer, but has 3 vertical organizational sleeves along it to keep things orderly, Pens, box of toothpicks, knife, gum etc. In here you will also find a key leash and clip which I find super handy, its at the top of the pocket so you can just grab the base of it and pull your keys out without having to dig for them.
In front of the middle pocket on the front of the bag is a veritcal zippered pocket the zipper for which is under a little flap so its not easily seen in the photos, but it is there, and it is awesome. No organization in this one but its fairly low profile so you wont be putting too much in there, I usually keep my wallet, chapstick, a little moleskin notebook, etc, in there,
It really feels like there is a spot for everything in this, it has helped me to stay organized and I forget things alot less, I also always know where my keys and sunglasses are which is so nice. I really cant say enough good things about this. If you have ever wanted a bag this is the one to get and I can promise you will kick yourself for waiting so long.
Superb travel bag
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
I have been using an Eagle Creek bag for well over a decade, traveling in Europe, and it was getting tired. This one looked good, but I was well-accustomed to the old one and was dubious. Two weeks traveling in the UK, and I am persuaded: great compartments to hide stuff, robust construction, clever design ... and I am still finding features and uses for them. The old bag is now officially retired.
