Slice through sleet, snow, and wind.

Breaking trail through knee-deep snow and setting a bootpack up a steep couloir puts a whole new set of demands on your ski pants. Sure, they need to keep you dry from the elements, but they also need to be breathable, otherwise you're going to be a sweaty mess by the time you reach the top of your line. The Arc'teryx Men's Sabre Pants boast breathability and waterproof, windproof protection that will keep you dry from the inside and out whether you're accessing hike-to terrain in the ski area or discovering new backcountry zones after a long slog on the skintrack.

A three-layer Gore-Tex shell with fully taped seams prevents everything from all-encompassing powder to heavy, wet mank out of your underlying layers. A hard-wearing yet breathable N80p-X softshell face and two large leg vents provide ample breathability to keep you cool and dry when things start to heat up during the ascent. During the descent, a brushed backer provides light insulation to keep your legs insulated between prolonged exposure to whipping wind and short bouts of exposure to freezing-cold snow.

    • Waterproof, breathable Gore-Tex protects from driving snow
    • Brushed backer offers light insulation during cold conditions

    Great pants

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

As to be expected with Arc'teryx gear, these pants are awesome. They keep you warm and dry in all conditions. I bought this as a gift for my dad and he loves the the pants. The pants fit true to size and has been great to wear on both blue bird and snowy days.

    Dad Approved

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

Bought these for my dad and he looooves them. He works on the mountain, and while he has to wear uniform pants on the job, these are his go-to pants when he's not on the clock. He rocks the Phantom purple color and loves the pockets on them.

    Bomb Proof Ski Pant

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: XLT
    • Height: 6'5"
    • Weight: 230lbs

These were purchased for me as a gift. Used most recently in Vail, CO to ski front side and back bowls. The powder was nearly waist deep in the bowls and I stayed dry and warm!

For sizing - I'm kind of in between sizes at a 38 pant waist. I went with a XLT. to make sure they weren't tight for layering. The Sabre pant is definitely loose on me and required use of a belt. The Sabre pants have great vents to let in some fresh air while taking a lunch break.

Also, if I had to give one critique it would be on the built-in "belt" on the pants. It cinches tight, but with my sizing difference at about 1.5 inches in the waist, I couldn't keep it tight enough to suit me. My solution was to buy an Arcteryx Conveyor Belt and it worked perfectly. If using a real belt, you will need to remove the built in cinch belt as it does not comfortably fit at the waist with essentially two buckles (built in belt and traditional belt).

Looking forward to many years of use out of these pants! Would absolutely recommend them!

Everything about this pant is perfect

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Size Bought: S/Reg
    • Height: 5'7"
    • Weight: 157lbs

I am 5’-7” at 157 lbs. I am a fan of cargo pants because I seem to have a need for carrying a bunch of items while skiing the resort and backcountry… water bottle, flask, treats, cliff bar, and such. Two years ago I found a good price on the Arc’teryx Stinger pant in the M/M size but had to return it as it was too long and the Med/Short was not available. When the Sabre pant appeared on Backcountry’s site in the M/Short I jumped on a pair. Everything about this pant is perfect! From the deep and ingeniously designed thigh/side pockets, to the “light insulation” layer, to the well-tailored articulated knees, waist and crotch, these ski pants are the bomb! I am four Alta ski days into these pants - two in the resort and two touring. My first day I fell in love with the two thigh pockets. The simple design concept of slanting the bottom of the pocket from the middle of the top of the thigh down and back to about the top of the back of the knee allowed the stuff in the pocket to naturally drift to the back of my leg and out of the way of the action moving forward (unlike the cargo pockets of my older pants). These are truly expansive pockets with exquisite tailoring that maintain a look that is clean and not bulky. Even though the pocket wraps around to the back of the leg, sitting on a chairlift was not a problem with my precious stuff in there. The day after Alta’s opener saw fierce weather - single digits with strong winds - that tested the “light insulation” layer built into these pants. I did not wear my usual under-layer of fleece pants for these kinds of challenging weather days to test the warmth factor. Not only did these pants stand up to the cold while skiing and riding the lifts, our group endured 20 minutes of being stranded on Collins lift in the worst possible place to catch the wind and snow. The legs and core stayed cozy through the ordeal. That light thermal layer really did its job that day. The next day was a cold but sunny tour day where I was able to test the walking features. The articulated knee design is a dream with plenty of room to kneel but there is no excess on the inside of the leg to rub against each other while walking…. and none of the annoying sounds of material rubbing on each and every step. Very appreciated on a long 3+ hour walk. The vents that are positioned at the back of the leg also worked perfectly. 18” long, they are an ample length to let out the heat and moisture and where they are situated keep the pants fitting nicely on the leg. Just be sure to close the two-way zipper before a powder run as it is easy to forget they are open! The tailoring of the waist was a bit of a concern at first as the waist band seemed to be somewhat smaller than the pant below it. Pulling the pant up felt a bit tight over the hips but once up to the waist there was plenty of room for my layers underneath and the waist stayed put also aided by the narrow belt with an ingenious clasp. Going into the trees for a Nature Break was also a concern as the zipper on the fly was not very long. But the strategic location of the zipper and with an ample crotch “pocket” the performance was graceful and effortless. These are fantastic pants. Well thought out with brilliant design and tailoring. My friends now want a pair and I will invest in another if these ever wear out!

    Excited to use this winter!

    Gave as a gift

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
    • Fit: True to size

I gave these to my boyfriend as a gift. He says they are true to fit. The regular is maybe a little on the shorter side for his 6'2" frame, but it depends what sort of style you're looking for. The pants are uninsulated, so make sure you have a warm baselayer for cold days. These pants will be great for the resort or backcountry with the GoreTex material and big leg vents, so definitely a big win.

    Arc'teryx – Men's Sabre Pant

Designed for big mountain freeride and skiing, the Sabre Pant is waterproof, breathable, hardwearing and combines a relaxed fit with clean lines. Storm protection and warmth come from the N80p-X GORE-TEX® 3L fabric with 3L lo-loft soft shell construction. The material’s brushed liner provides light insulation and a flannel like feel.

Features are selected specifically for the snow, and optimized to handle the transition from groomed run to backcountry descent. Ultra durable 100D laminated Cordura® PowderCuffs™ seal out snow and fit under snowboard highbacks, and colour matched Keprotec™ instep patches prevent abrasion and ski cuts. Large cargo pockets with internal volume channel cargo away from impact zones, and double side zips can open wide for rapid ventilation on ascents and traverses. Integrated Slide’n Loc™ attachments link with the Sidewinder SV, Sabre and other compatible jackets, creating a unified clothing system that helps seal out driven snow.

    Lovable

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Small
    • Height: 5'11"
    • Weight: 145lbs

I love the Gore-tex C-knit and the slanted pockets that swallow everything. Bomber protection and huge thigh vents makes these great for resort or BC.

    A little baggy

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: M/Reg
    • Height: 6'1"
    • Weight: 155lbs

I bought these as a gift for my brother, but he ended up returning them due to their baggy fit around the legs. They seem like they were made for people with wider legs in mind, and my brother's legsI looked like a couple of broomsticks in them. He ended up going for the Rush LT pant instead, but these pants are still fantastic for the right person.

    Sabre Pants

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: medium/long
    • Height: 6'1"
    • Weight: 175lbs

My girlfriend told me for sitting on wet chairs these pants are the only thing to buy. Skied in a blizzard in my old pants and got damp. Next day skied in these in worse conditions and stayed dry. Very comfortable and useable. Worth the extra bucks.

    The Best Frontside Pant Around

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: M/S
    • Height: 5'6"
    • Weight: 154lbs

These are by far my favorite ski pants I've ever owned. They perfected the fit on recent versions of this pant-- a good tweener of baggy and tailored. The brushed backing is really nice. It can be hard to find pants that fit my inseam and the short length fits me great.

    SWEET PANTS

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: small
    • Height: 5'5"
    • Weight: 140lbs

just wrapped up 6 days in hokkaido with these puppies. great pants. i hit a tree stump at speed, so hard that it left a black and blue mark the size of a papaya on my inner thigh. there's barely a scratch on the pants. thik layer of insulation made them super warm with just a base layer underneath. but they were plenty light enough for skinning without sweating, thanks to the enormous vents. huge pockets. the adjustable belt strap is great and i like the slip-loc thing that connects with the Arc'teryx Rush Jacket. also the tapered fit is great for someone like me with a small frame (all of the arc'teyx stuff is made with different fits, so the same size in different models fits differently). only downside...i don't understand why these have to be $500. too much money for a pair of pants i only wear 10 times a year. but damn, these things are great.

$500, but the last pair of Arcteryx pants I had lasted me 10 years with no drop in performance. Only stopped using them because the glue holding the boot gaiters debonded and came out. Pants themselves are still good so I use them for shoveling and as rain pants.

    Great Resort Pant

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
    • Fit: True to size

Pair this pant with a Sabre jacket and you have an awesome resort shredding combo. I love the 3 layer Gore-tex construction of these pants it insures that you stay dry and don't get clammy. The vents on the thighs are great to dump serious heat when you get to the bottom of your line. Arc'teryx used a strong Cordura nylon on the inner ankle so you don't slice your pants with your skis.
I'd recommed this pant to anyone looking to ski the resort mostly and maybe get into the backcountry a little bit.

    SABRE

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: XL
    • Height: 6'3"
    • Weight: 210lbs

I really like these pants. They've lasted me a season and a half now and I'm in no need of a new pair.

Super durable, warm, good looking. Match great with my Sabre Jacket

Have XL but could size down to a L

    Perfect for resort and touring

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 5'10"
    • Weight: 165lbs

I've used these pants both in, and out of bounds, as a do everything pant. I love them! I really like the relaxed, baggy fit. It gives me plenty of room to layer underneath. With layers, this pant is extremely warm and I've never been cold. These pants are true to size. I am 5" 10' with a 32 waist and a medium fits me extremely well. They are a bit long for me, but that is nothing new for me. I am on the short side.

    Unanswered Question

Sizing on these? I tried these on in both Small and Medium. I'm 6'1" tall and weigh 170#. My waist is about a 32". The Medium was quite loose in the waist. The Small was a better fit (see pic below). BUT, I was trying on without any base layer (besides my boxers. Thoughts? Too snug in Small?

    good morning,

was wondering if you could give me a sense between the Sabre and Stingray Arcteryx pants, in regards to fit, protection, warmth, etc? ski mostly in Minnesota w/ a few trips out east/west every year.
