For sweaty situations.

Most skiers bicker over cold temperatures freezing their fun-filled adventures in the resort, but as a backcountry skier, you get hot and sweaty before you freeze over, unless you're touring in the Arcteryx Men's Phase SL Zip Neck Top. This superlight baselayer uses Arcteryx's Phasic SL yarns to amplify moisture management, while drying quickly so whatever sweat is remaining can't freeze the fabric and keep you cold for the remaining tour.

  • Superlight baselayer for high-output activities
  • Phasic SL yarns wick moisture, dry quickly, and stretch
  • Form-fitting with gusseted underarms for freedom of movement
  • Tall collar with deep zip neck provides versatile ventilation
  • Smooth flatlock seams assure chafe-free comfort
  • Item #ARC00KC

Change a good thing.

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: XL
  • Height: 6'0"
  • Weight: 210lbs

Again, they kept the bigger collar than the previous ones. This is a base layer. Now, they made this one dimensional. The collar is too high for another layer. So, it will stay a base layer shirt with too high a collar, and not a base layer with capability to add layers. Disappointed again A nice color though. (lliad)

Perfect Base Layer

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Arc'teryx Phase SL Zip-Neck is the perfect base layer for me, whether I'm backpacking in the mountains or just going for a run around the park in the winter. I have three of these, so I can always have one on hand. I also have the heavier Phase AR Zip-Neck, but for anything where temps are above the teens, I prefer the SL. The fabric is thin enough that I don't overheat while hiking or running and can easily be worn under an Atom Jacket if I need a bit of extra warmth on cold hikes without being too much. It drys very quickly. Unlike wool where once wet it stays wet for a while, I can reach my destination, pull out a beer and put on my puffy, take a few pictures, and before I realize it, my base layer is dry. I much prefer the Zip Neck because it allows you to unzip the layer half down your chest for great air ventilation to dump heat. As someone who runs hot in general, it's honestly my favorite piece of clothing gear. Very versatile. Very durable if you take care of it.

Why the change?

I have 2 of these older version while ordering this one on sale. Surprise...they change a good thing. First the put the Arcteryx symbol on sleeve rather than a small blue rectangular name and symbol. That was a good change. However, this is a base layer. And they doubled the materiel on top and bottom of the collar seam. So now its mid layer for moderate weather...I guess. Disappointed...but will keep it. Never given this company a less than 5 stars. This time they deserve a low 4.

Arc'teryx Phase SL Zip-Neck Top - Long-S

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

This is one soft shirt. It is body fitting and warm. I wore it on some rather cool summer nights while camping and it was great. I really love it!

Moisture mover

Its funny how well this stuff works, for ever I believed in merino as the perfect underlayer for hiking, but I was always wet and would get cold when stopped. This layer though thinner is better, when I stop I can stay warm since my core is dry. This SL is a little thin for winter but great during the other seasons.
