Design change ruined my favorite shorts

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

True to size

I have several pairs of Palisade shorts and love them (I like shorts with zippers on all the pockets). A few years ago Arcteryx improved the lower pockets and belt buckle and made the shorts much better. Recently I decided to purchase another pair only to discover that Arcteryx redesigned the shorts and made them unusable. The zipper on the fly is now so short (2 cm shorter than before) that you can not go pee by just opening the zipper. To go pee you have to undo the snap and the belt, in addition to opening the zipper. That is very inconvenient and definitely not an improvement. I do not recommend the new version (made in Indonesia). If you can, try to find the previous version (made in China). I spoke to Arcteryx about the short zipper and they are aware of the issue but they say it is a design change and not a warranty issue. They were unwilling to do anything to fix my shorts and say I can either use them as they are or return them. Photo shows the new black shorts and an old tan pair with an OK zipper.

Fantastic! Pockets are zippered and side pocket is perfect for a phone. Quick dry. The length is at about the knee but my husband doesn't seem to mind. Love the Pompeii color!

Good for Hiking

After wearing Prana Mojo shorts for some time (they feel like you are wearing nothing) I opted for these because of the zippered pockets and the ability to have an integrated belt. If you put more than a few ounces of stuff in your pockets the Prana shorts will fall down a bit. In the pockets I carry my camera cleaning accessories with a filter or two, and having zippers is great for piece of mind. However I wouldn't use these if you are going to be doing any kind of scampering, scrambling, or bumping against rocks. I just came back from Colorado and while on the Castle/Conundrum route I had to do a bit of very light scampering (Class 2 plus) and was definitely bumping against rocks. Unfortunately now there are a few tears on the front leg and the seat. So if you are going to wear them for trail hiking, go for it. They are nice. I cannot recommend these for anything more aggressive. For that much $$ I would have expected them to hold up a bit better than that.

These were a gift for my friend, and here's what he had to say," These shorts have all the pockets , to hold all of the things. I think they run a little large, but the integrated belt takes care of that…"

I got one word: Pockets. Arcteryx is not known for a lot of pockets on their garments. I don't know why. These have 5. The hand pockets could be deeper, they are quite shallow and you must always zip them up so things don't fall out like your $650 phone. I would suggest hand pockets having less of and angle - make them more horizontal therefore things won't fall out so easily and deeper. Fit is great, I'm 5'9" and they come just a hair above the knee and they have just enough room and aren't butt huggers.

I wear almost nothing except my Arcteryx Palisades Shorts or long pants. Have for y-e-a-r-s. Was excited to see zippers on all pockets & ordered these. However, discovered one had cargo pocket on only one side and both had really different shaped cargo pockets that are somewhat smaller. I can not get in them what I need to carry so I returned them. STILL wish the previous ones had zippers on all pockets like the original ones but truly love the "one of a kind" ones I still have of the originals. My long ones (probably original model) have all zippers and one of my Arcteryx Palisade shorts do also.

The Palisade short and pants were revised this year. I have a pair of the previous style and this is definitely an improvement all around: - There is now one back pocket. - All five pockets have zippers. The hand pockets were not zippered before. - The hand pockets and the new back pocket now have meshes in them. I suppose this would help slightly with ventilation. - The integrated belt metal buckle is new and it works much better than the old plastic one. - The thigh pockets are now sown with a fold in the fabric which gives them room to expand. - The fabric somehow feels a little smoother than before even though the label seems to indicate nothing has changed. In short, a highly refined, technical, hiking short. They perform excellent.

Do these still have the too-short zipper, or has that been fixed since 2018?
