Arc'teryx Nuclei FL Jacket - Men's

Why We Like The Nuclei FL Jacket

The Nuclei FL Jacket is a magnificent midlayer for moving fast in the alpine whether we're climbing, touring, or trekking. It adds that special touch of insulated warmth that we look for when we're on the go in colder climates. We also like that it's windproof when brisk breezes greet us on ridgelines. The shell's water resistance is reliable in passing showers or the occasional snowfall, and Arc'teryx fitted it slim so we can layer a shell over it in more extreme conditions. Despite a slim fit, the Nuclei FL is super easy to move around in when we're belaying and transitioning from uphill to down.

Impossibly light. No BS, it works.

I'm a climber and hiker, and this piece is basically perfect. It does exactly what it is supposed to - blocks wind and keeps you warm. When you pick it up, it seems impossibly light and too thin to trust as your puffy. But, incredibly, it just works. The hood really fits over a helmet. This is not a winter belay jacket. Do not expect this to keep you warm while top roping ice in the NE. But if, as the name implies, you're moving fast and light, this is a no-brainer, idiot-proof layer that weighs nothing and should always be with you. If my objective was Rainier in the summer, 100% this is in my pack. Quick word on price - I don't usually advocate spending this much. I paid $225 on sale and that's still a lot. But bottom line, at least in this case, you get what you pay for.

I have been extremely satisfied with this jacket. First the fit is perfect, fits even better than my Atom LT. I will say that when I took it out of the packaging and tried it on for the first time the sleeves seemed very snug as I slide my arms into the sleeves, but the fabric relaxes and it is very comfortable. I actually like this because I don't have excess fabric or that bagginess in the sleeves. The drop hem in the back keeps the draft out when I bend over and the cut at the front hem allows me perfect access to my pockets. For reference I am 6'5" 195 lbs and wear a 42L in a trim sports coat. The Large fits perfect. This jacket is very warm but does a great job at regulating my temperature without over heating. Fabric offers great wind protection, I was in 25 mph winds and stayed warm without being impacted by the wind. I also really like the Cinder color which is a dark grey color, I can use this as my 1 bag travel jacket (11 oz) so if I am travelling on business but at the same time I want to get out into nature on the trip I can use this jacket for all occasions unlike other bright colors which I wouldn't be able to use for business casual purposes. I also own an Arcteryx Atom LT, but this jacket has now become my go to favorite jacket. If you are looking for that jacket that you can put on and leave on all day without a lot of bulk, this is it. Wearing this jacket is like waking up in the morning and not wanting to get out of that favorite sleeping quilt or bag.

Thanks so much for the awesome review, Robert! Glad to hear you are loving your Nuclei!

Does it still include a stuff sack?
