Norvan SL Hooded Jacket
Going for your trail run is usually the best part of your day, but when the rain starts coming down it can turn into type two fun. Keep your spirits lifted with the Arc'teryx Men's Norvan SL Hooded Jacket keeping you dry and comfortable. A waterproof and windproof Gore-Tex membrane seals out moisture while Shakedry technology eliminates the need for a face fabric, making this jacket the lightest, most breathable trail running jacket Arc'teryx makes. The slim fit further optimizes breathability without sacrificing range of motion. This newer model has a fitted hood that has been redesigned to be securely stowable. An elasticized visor keeps the rain out of your face while keeping your periphery clear so you can see any upcoming obstacles clearly.

I love how silky and smooth this jacket feels on my skin. It's so lightweight that I barely notice I'm wearing a jacket, but the gortex and shake-dry technology prevent any precipitation from leaking into my inner layers.

Just broke this jacket in during a blizzard here in Utah running up a couple of peaks in the foothills here in Salt Lake. With the temps in the 20's this jacket really helped me to regulate well and not overheat, unlike some hard shells. The snow was really light and fluffy so I wasnt super concerned with getting wet but saw quite a bit of moisture bead off the Norvan SL. Even when pushing the pace on the uphills I didnt feel clammy or over heated. The fit is great and I opted for the large over the medium to give me space to layer and move well. I wish there was a drawstring at the bottom as I did feel a bit of a draft. I am super impressed with Gore Shake Dry's light weight and performance.
Coolest Jacket Ive Ever Owned

The Norvan SL is probably the best rain jacket out there for activities such as running, cycling, backcountry touring, or even fly fishing! The shake dry material totally beats out any outside moisture and is the most breathable GoreTex product on the market. This jacket however isnt the most durable material. I wouldnt recomend it for rock climbing or any activity that puts a ton of wear and tear on the jacket. Overall, this jacket is the best piece of gear Ive ever owned. It packs down to the size of your fist, so its easily stow-able for an emergency outer layer.
Something I would change about this jacket would be to have pockets. Because it doesnt have any pockets. I guess thats what it gets with the SL tag.
Great so far!

I've only had my Arcteryx Norvan SL for one day and so far it is pretty darn awesome.
First things first! Reading the Arcteryx size chart I should have chosen a medium but I went up one size so I could add a layer underneath. As it turns out this jacket runs a bit small. I'm 5'10" with a 39 inch chest, at 33" waist and this fits me perfectly with a fleece underneath. Second small note - description indicates it has reflective blazes on the back. It does not. There is one on the left sleeve that says "Gortex" and one on the chest, an Arcteryx dinosaur logo. The rest of the jacket is as black as the ace of spades. I guess that is why they make flashing taillights for bicycles.
I bought this jacket to wear cycling because I'm very familiar with "outdry" technology having owned a Columbia outdry jacket for over a year but that was a little bulky for cycling. It is a sliim fit coat and there is very little flapping in the breeze while riding. The hood also tucks away on the collar so it's not flyiing in the wind. Did not try the hood with my helmet. My bad.
Today I rode a 40 mile course in and out of rain showers for a couple hours and the jacket as expected did not wet out - not even in the slightest. The thing that was surprising to me was that the interior of the jacket did not have any condensation, none what so ever, even though I was riding hard sweating quite a bit.
This jacket is light as a feather and I suspect it's also a bit delicate. Another company using Gortex shake dry does not recommend it for backpacking because of the abrasion of the pack straps. But I'm gonna give it a go.
As things stand right now I feel this was worth the $299 price.
Its a winner.

It was time to buy a new rain coat and this is what I chose. I had looked at many reviews on coats and to be honest, I was set on the Outdoor Research Helium 2. I headed to the store and the whole time kept thinking to myself, its not Gortex and at some point it will get wet. I was about to walk out of the store with it, was in my hands. Until last minute I saw this on the other viewed bar at the bottom. Everything about it made since..
It was more than 2 ounces lighter and Gortex.. The slight difference was no pocket. This was not a big deal for me, and the non "SL" version of this jacket has one if you feel like that's a deal breaker for you.
So I took this out to the RSL game that night knowing it was going to rain. Well in fact it "Snowmageddon" haha. Fortunate for me I big part of this purchase was also being able to fit a nice down coat under it, so I had my 800 fill North Face under neath. I tried on a L and XL, to fit a coat under I went with the XL just a heads up and I am 6ft 180lbs.
So point being after a hour of so of pouring rain, then really wet snow, into what was a full on blizzard. I stayed completely dry up top, pants soaked..
I have also now had my 6 year old spray me in the back yard with the hose to give it a really good test. I wear it to work each day and breath ability is awesome.
