Norvan LD GTX Trail Running Shoe

Every impact of your foot against the trail brings you closer to mental clarity. While some people can sit still to meditate, you find your zen by running in the Arc'teryx Women's Norvan LD GTX Trail Running Shoe.

Designed to get you through the harshest conditions, the Norvan LD GTX is equipped with Gore's new technology, the Gore Invisible Fit. This membrane offers complete protection in inclement weather while also giving a more flexible fit and feel, similar to what you'd expect from a non-protective running shoe. It's also perfectly matched to the upper material, eliminating wrinkles, folds, and reducing pressure points for a true-to-size forefoot area. In addition, Invisible fit also reduces weight in the shoe and dries faster than previous Gore membranes, which means you can find your zen even when the forecast isn't ideal.

To aid in traction on those messy trails, the Vibram MegaGrip outsole grips any terrain whether it is wet, dry, or muddy. The 3.5mm lugs dig into the ground so you're not skating down the trail. The midsole and footbed provide support and cushion, absorbing shock and helping your foot strike in proper alignment. The Norvan LD has a 9mm drop, optimizing it for heel-strikers without making it unfit for midfoot-strikers. With the Norvan LD, The only thing keeping you from finding mental clarity on the trail is that you're still sitting at the computer.

  • Lightweight trail running shoes to conquer any conditions
  • Gore-Tex membrane provides waterproof, breathable protection
  • Gore Invisible Fit is flexible, reduces weight, dries quickly
  • Mesh upper is lightweight and breathable
  • 9mm drop is optimized for heel-strikers

Not for me

I returned this product before using it

Bought these after a friend recommended them. After only a few min wearing them I had to take them off, the fit was just too narrow for me and no matter how I messed with the laces I couldn't get a comfortable fit.

Ohhh, they are sooo good!

I've put it through the wringer

I was looking for membrane running shoes for the forest trail nearby, which could be used at any weather and would be you know - a good pair of running shoes. What I’ve got: - perfectly comfortable shoes for running: light, soft and reliable - great grip on dirt, rocky and gravel terrain combined with good sole protection and stability - perform perfectly in rain, on wet and muddy trails I would say they are a little stiff for asphalt but this is not the kind of surface they are designed for. As trail running shoes they are absolutely ideal. I was so impressed that I bought Norvan SL right after these

These shoes are BEASTS!!

I have run over 70 miles in these shoes and I have thrown water, rocks, sandy soil, gravel at these shoes and they're amazing. I'm a heel striker and they are amazingly cushioned, feel like clouds! They run a little large so go a half size down, I probably could have gone a full size, but the extra space will give me room for waterproof socks in the winter. I submerged the shoes in creek water and not a drop reached my feet. If you fully submerge your shoe, above the rim, water will enter the shoe, so they are only waterproof to an extent if that's fair to say. They are good to use right out of the box, no need to break them in. They have not caused any pain or discomfort for my feet. I will be buying the lighter gortex Norvans soon because frankly, these are the best shoes I've ever owned. I don't take them running on the road because they're too robust. They look like they're going to be more of a tripping hazard at first sight, but don't let their looks deceive you. They are light! Their design, I am sure, has saved me from at least three injuries! In fact, I bought them after an injury from falling with cheap trail runners. The Vibram soles make me feel like Spiderman because of their Kung Fu grip! Including wet boulders!! The bulkier design is wicked too; when you've landed awkwardly on a rock or running narrow oddly angled terrain/paths, Norvans grip the rock--versus sliding off of it and rolling your ankle>trip>fall>ouch! They brace as well because they're quite wide at the base; if you have weak ankles and your ankle gives easily, their wider base will protect it from rolling as well. I will never embark on the trail without them <3. AND, they make me feel safer and more capable on tricky terrain. Thank you, Arcteryx! If you are serious about trail running, have fallen in love with it like me, try these trail runners. I will say, if you are running on well-kept dirt trails, these shoes may be too much for your needs, you could step down and do without the GTX or the LD and go for the lighter Norvan model, but if you plan on doing difficult or very difficult trails with varying types of terrain--you need these shoes. I also plan on using them in the winter (snow) with waterproof socks! When the Gortex has worn out, and it does have a shelf life, I will continue to use them. What I'm trying to say is, the shoe itself is spectacular with the ortholite insoles to the Vibram stick soles, they are an engineering marvel. Love love love these shoes. They are a worthy investment.

Water proof

Got to test these out this weekend through some snow and water run off the trail.. these help up so great! The trail was very muddy and I was stepping through lots of run off streams, and then the last half mile was full snow pack. The grip held up great through the snow going up hill (as best as they could with out any micro spikes) and my feet were pretty much totally dry by the time I got back to the trailhead! VERY impressed!

Super durable and great water protection

I use these to hike and lightly trail run on wet and muddy days. So far, I've stayed really dry and they've held up really well!

Happiness on the Trails

I've put it through the wringer

I recently started trail running again and wanted some new shoes that offered better protection from the elements since it is wet a lot when I go out in the PNW. I also hike in trail runners normally so they tend to get a lot more overall use. These surpassed any expectations I had. My feet were comfortable from day one. The ortholite insole really adds some great support and comfort. The toe box is roomy so my toes never get smashed down when running or hiking downhill. Feet stay dry too!! Fully dry and I have taken these out in some storms and stepped in some puddles just to be sure. They offer great traction on wet and rugged terrain. I haven’t found I have slipped yet and I like to climb and explore on rocks and through the bush. Went with black for just a classic murdered out look and while I love color I love the subtle ness of the black. They look really good on too cuz part of performing well includes looking good :P

Great shoes!

I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Really impressed with these shoes! It is still pretty early in the hiking season here, most of the trails are still covered in snow or wet, but I couldn't wait to take these out, so I went for a jaunt in the foothills! However, I still ran into some ice/snow and lots of mud in the drainage of the trail. The MegaGrip sole really saved me here and I didn't slip once going up or down which was really impressive. The tread on these shoes are really great and noticeable when hiking, and being made with Vibram you know they are really durable and will last for a long time. I found the toe box on these to be wider than expected and they were very comfortable. My toes weren't swimming but were comfortable enough to not feel restricted or like I wanted to take them off as soon as I was done hiking. It feels like these shoes run a half size too big so be sure to get a half size smaller than normal. I range between 6-7 and got a 6.5 in these, and would fit bitter in 6. However, I was fine with wearing thicker socks and tying the laces tight. While these shoes offer premium protection, they were still very comfortable and flexible. I am going to try trail running in them.

Now that the trails have tried up, I have gotten to take these shoes out for over a dozen trail runs now and they are holding up great! I have ran through some mud and gotten them quite dirty, however with the GoreTex protection I didn't even notice it while running, and when I got home the mud wiped right off. When running, the larger toe box that I mentioned is really comfortable. Compared to some older shoes that I was using, my toes always felt restricted and squeezed together feeling slightly uncomfortable. In these Norvan shoes, my foot feels very securely and in place while the toe box allows my toes to press out comfortably with each placement. And lastly, with the MegaGrip sole, I haven't slipped once so far!

I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

These shoes are awesome! My first time buying Arcteryx shoes. Hubby and I love to travel and we walk ALOT, so we know 2 main factors are a MUST, comfort and GORETEX. These replaced some old Montrail ones that are about 15 yrs old and I still have. Wore them 2 weeks straight in Italy all day. On and off trains with 45L backpack in tow. 2 days to break them in. Very comfortable. No blisters anywhere. I did put some gel insoles just to be safe. You do have to make a double knot on the shoelaces because they come undone. Didn't get a chance to try the GORETEX feature on these, but my old Montrails had them and never had a problem. They are a little bit pricey, but investing in a quality shoe that I hope will last for many years is sooo worth it. Plus you don't have to worry about your feet on your trips just have fun. Ohh I also used them all day on a weekend trip to Philly last week, no issues.
