Norvan LD GTX Trail Running Shoe
Don't let the harsh forecast force you to cancel your planned weekend run. Instead, turn to the Arc'teryx Norvan LD GTX Trail Running Shoe for waterproof, breathable protection and lightweight comfort on all of your longer trail races and cross country runs.
Distinguishing itself from the VT, which is tailored to conquering uphill scrambles, the Norvan LD (long distance) is engineered for relentless comfort on distant runs through widely varying terrain. Shielding you from the elements, the Gore-Tex membrane with Gore Invisible Fit technology serves up durable waterproof, breathable protection as you splash through streams and brave sudden rainstorms in the backcountry. More specifically, Gore Invisible Fit has the feel of a non-protective running shoe while providing complete protection in inclement weather. The Gore membrane is perfectly matched to the upper of the shoe eliminating folds, wrinkles, and pressure points for a true-to-size forefoot area.
Meanwhile, the lightweight mesh upper further enhances breathability to help the miles melt away in warmer weather, while 3.5mm square lugs on the Vibram MegaGrip outsole kick your stride into overdrive by gripping and ripping loose, muddy terrain without losing propulsion. Going fast and staying comfortable are sometimes hard to get on the same page, which is why Arc'teryx's comfortable yet protective midsole boasts a blend of EVA and polyolefin for springy cushioning, as well as anti-fatigue inserts to keep your medial heel from tiring out too early. Smoothing out the constant pounding on uneven, rocky trails, a 4mm Ortholite 3D footbed cushions harsh impact to your feet, while the 7mm TPU chassis insert underfoot guards against sharper stones and jutting debris.

Snow, Puddles, Mud? No problem!
I was looking for a trail runner/lightweight hiker and these fit perfectly into that slot. I'll use them mostly for hiking, but also for the occasional trail run. I was able to take them out on a hike in some spring conditions and I was very impressed with their performance. I was hiking through all sorts of snowdrifts, puddles, and mud. As long as the snow and water don't come in the top of the shoe, your feet remain completely dry. That being said, the moisture that came in was wicked by my Darn Tough wool socks and the GORE Invisible Fit. Not only are they incredibly functional, but they are also pretty easy on the eyes. They would be perfect for anyone who is a trail to town type of guy, or if you are just trying to put some miles on the trail. My feet can live dry and happy thanks to GORE-TEX! Overall super happy with some of the awesome features that these shoes have.

My go to this season!
I am super impressed by the Norvan line of trail running shoes Arc'teryx has compiled over the past couple of years with something for every kind of trail runner, and the LD's are the perfect shoe for me! The LD is super versatile for both mid and long-distance running, with a balance between being lightweight but also extremely durable. I like how the upper material is all one piece of mesh with laminated bits, this seamless construction proves to be super durable over pretty significant wear and tear. The shoe is breathable and dries fast, and I think unless you are in extremely wet conditions the LD works fine when wet. The shoe is really comfortable, fits true to size, and hugs the heel really well. It may be a bit narrow fitting, which isn't a problem for me but something to consider if you have a wide foot. The LD feels light, there are definitely lighter shoes out there, even within the Norvan line, however, I think the extra weight is worth it when it comes to durability. One awesome thing about this Arc'teryx line is if you want something a bit lighter, go with the SL, if you want something more rugged, go with the VT, and if you need waterproofing, go with the GTX. If you are a trail runner running long to ultra distances I think that the Norvan LD's are an awesome option for a minimalist shoe that performs and most importantly lasts!

Questionable water performance
I really love the comfort of these shoes however I sought out the goretex so I could comfortably use them in the rain. Well, my socks get wet just walking through dewy grass in my yard. I wasn't expecting a rain boot but my pair has comparable wet weather performance to regular running shoes which is pretty disappointing.

The issue is water running down your leg into shoe. Need to combine with water proof pants that attach securely over top of shoe to have totally ‘waterproof’ rig. You could blast that shoe with a hose or dip in a bucket of water and no water is getting in unless comes through the top around ankle. Shoe itself is completely waterproof.
