    Bora Mid GTX Backpacking Boot

By combining the durability and support of a mountaineering boot with the flexible agility of an approach shoe, Arc'teryx created the Bora Mid GTX Backpacking Boot for your multi-day treks in the backcountry. Whether you're traversing technical terrain or approaching camp on a mellow single track, you'll appreciate the protection, support, and flexibility that the Bora provides. The innovative approach in the design of the shoe allows Arc'teryx to combine rugged, on-trail protection with a comfortable, flexible fit to keep you cruising through the miles day after day.

On one hand, you have a boot with the protection and support of a mountaineering boot. It features a single, unified, seamless upper that utilizes advanced textiles and thermolaminated construction to hold up to the rigors of the trail. A heel brake and mountaineering heel tread provide you with stability and tread when you're tackling rigorous terrain. And finally, a durable EVA midsole absorbs shock while providing you with precision stability for performance on the trail.

On the other hand, you have a boot with the flexibility and comfort of an approach shoe. The Bora employs a unique design with a separate shell and liner construction. This internal liner conforms to your foot for a custom fit that helps to eliminate irritation and hot spots. This liner also features a Gore-Tex membrane that can extend all the way to the top edge of the cuff to further increase waterproof, breathable protection when you're trekking in adverse conditions. Additionally, the unique design of the sole keeps the Bora agile while still adapting to shifting trail surfaces. Through a partnership with Vibram, Arc'teryx was able to engineer this sole that provides you with traction, durability, grip, and agility for your days spent on the trail.

    Have questions about this product?

    Hmm

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I was so excited to get these for my girlfriend; however, I had to return them because of a few issues.

First of all she has very flat and tall feet (from all the years of dancing) so she was unable to comfortably fit into these. The Liner was too tight on her calf, and the shoe dug into her ankle. They would have been perfect if the liner could be removed (like in the mens) but it can't. So we returned the shoe.

A total bummer, hopefully the future models are a bit larger and have a removable liner.

    Doesn't Work for High Arches

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

This boot obviously works great for some feet. I had an insanely difficult time getting the boots on and then off. Exhausting! The inner boot is a pull on, so for those of us with high arches, the foot will not slip easily into the inner boot. Although I was able to do it, it took a lot of effort and bunched up my socks, so had to dig in there to straighten them out. Once on, they are very comfortable and supportive. Would have loved to try them out on the trail. One other problem is that the back seam of the inner boot runs up the back of the heel and achilles tendon. That was irritating just walking around inside the house. That would rub me raw after a few miles. So, if you don't have high arches and aren't sensitive to seam rubbing these might be great boots for you. Thank you Keary at Backcountry for great customer service in helping me figure out what was going on.

    Light, agile, rugged, seriously!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

These boots are super waterproof, used them in warm and winter conditions. They are light and agile feeling, but extremely rugged. I feel like my feet are monster trucks... gripping rock, stomping through shale, hopping boulders, or just burning up dirt trails in town. Barely had to break them in, any stiffness dissipates after just a couple of miles and they are good to go the distance.

    Light, agile, rugged, seriously!

    Impressed

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 41 might have gotten away with a 40.5 which would be my regular size.
    • Height: 5'4"
    • Weight: 105lbs

These boots were comfortable right out of the box. I took a trip to Vermont and did a lot of hiking. I didn't have time to break in these boots and was a little nervous about that but I found that they were great from day one. They fit well. I got a half size larger than normal because I read they run small but I don't think they really run that small and in hind sight wish I would have gotten 2 sizes to compare. These turned out fine as I always change out the insoles to accommodate my picky feet. I have bunions and a Morton's neuroma and had zero problems from either. I really liked how responsive the lacing was for the fit. Looser lacing meant for very comfortable wear when not on the trail and snugged up just made the boot hug your foot. No heel slip whatsoever. Downhill or uphill, no slipping around in the boots. The are very light weight and provide excellent support. The stride is very natural and sole grippy on wet rocks. They were waterproof in wet rainy conditions and, unlike my last gortex boots, my socks were completely dry at the end of the hikes every time! I'm very happy with my purchase and without hesitation would recommend these for any trails of any length.
