Burly rain protection in a small, supremely convenient package.
When sudden cloud bursts send everyone running for cover, pull the Arc'teryx Men's Beta SL Pant out of your pack and keep your legs dry while you push on towards the hut. Gore-Tex Paclite will shield you from the rain and, since it's the lightest fabric Gore-Tex makes, it helps keep these pants packable so you won't have to even consider leaving them behind just to save a little space. They have reinforced 3-layer Gore-Tex cuffs, too, so you won't slice your legs up powering through prickers; instead, you'll be eating up trail while all your weight-conscious companions hide under trees or spend the night roasting their hiking pants over the fire trying to dry them out.

Fear No Rain
- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
- Fit: Runs large
- Size Bought: Small Short
- Height: 5'3"
- Weight: 140lbs
These pants were a little too short for me but with the cinch on the bottom, they were just fine. They are noisy when you hike with them but the sound of the raindrops bouncing off it drowns out out. These pants make me want to hike in wet conditions more!
Great Emergency rain pant
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
- Fit: True to size
- Size Bought: Medium/Tall
- Height: 6'3"
- Weight: 170lbs
Purchased these for a 300 mile section hike of the Maine Appalachian Trail, as an emergency rain pant. They are very well balanced between weight and durability, they aren't OR Heliums but they will definitely last much longer. Packs down smaller than a standard water bottle, but they are durable enough for rock scrambling or the inevitable encounter with a thornbush/branch. They have excellent mobility, enough that i can do squats and the ankles don't ride up at all or restrict movement. The fit is perfect, plenty enough room for mild weather layers underneath but not baggy like ski pants. I am 6'3" and 170lbs, and wear a 32x34 regularly, and these fit perfectly, more like a 32x35. My only negative remark is the lack of a full length side zipper. As an emergency rain pant i know this saves weight, but it also makes it impossible to put on with boots, and many times when the weather turned bad i had to take off my boots to put on these pants. Not the best design for cold weather, but i bought a pair of OR Mentors for that, so these will stay with my 3 season gear.
Durable and functional
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
- Fit: True to size
My husband got these pants for adventure racing. Excellent fit - not too baggy, very durable even hiking off trail. Waterproofing has been great so far after several uses.
