Beta AR Pant
Loaded with a bevy of smart features and technical fabric details, the Arc'teryx Men's Beta AR Pant protects you from the elements when you're facing down gale-force winds, heavy snow squalls, and freezing temperatures. Featuring Gore-Tex Pro 3-layer membrane/laminate construction, these pants are seriously equipped for the worst weather on the planet. Furthermore, you'll appreciate the pant's athletic fit, with ergonomic-3D patterning for exceptional freedom of movement over base layers.
Arc'teryx placed a Gore-Tex 3-layer Pro membrane/laminate throughout the entire pant, but with slightly varying face fabrics in strategic locations or what it dubs as "Hybrid Mapping" technology. Basically, you'll find N40r-X Gore-Tex Pro 3-layer body for lightweight, ultra-breathable performance, without sacrificing premium waterproof protection. Reinforced along the seat, knees, and lower legs, N80p-X Gore-Tex Pro 3-layer construction beefs up durability, allowing for worry-free wear in the most grueling environments on earth. Add in fully taped seams and watertight zippers for a near-impenetrable fortress against all-day deluges, sopping spring snow, and deep powder.
And because these pants are designed for alpine climbing and ski-mountaineering approaches, you'll find an adjustable webbing belt that tightens comfortably under your favorite climbing harness, as well as 3/4-length ventilation zippers for easy integration over crampons. Other key features included Keprotec instep patches for enhanced protection against crampon and boot-related damage, as well as Cordura PowderCuffs with bootlace hooks to seal-out snow and outside moisture.

Complements my Beta AR Jacket
I have the Beta AR jacket, and was amazed at how bomb proof and yet breathable it was. I put it through the ringer this past winter. I loved it so much that I wanted to get the pants. They will be ideal for touring. But I am going to give them a go as a rain shell set for backcountry backpacking as well. They are perhaps heavy for that, but only relative to flimsier less bombproof stuff. I'll take that as a tradeoff anytime.

Bomb proof pants
These will keep you dry on the stormiest of days. Awesome for touring in wet weather. The side zips allow you to dump all the heat on the warmer days too. Very light weight option, but still super durable enough to take on a lot of abuse. Highly recommend snagging a pair.

Took these out for a week of skiing and they killed it. Super light so I didn't notice them, fit well over my boots, and still soft and waterproof! I liked the integrated belt, made everything simpler and fast to fit correctly and get out on and get adventuring ASAP. Zippers are top quality and I loved everything about them!

All Day, Everyday
I've always been hesitant because it seemed like these pants would be just an ordinary shell, but I was so wrong. Completely! The texture of the pants wouldn't give it away, once you put them on then you realize. You see they fit perfectly with an appropriate amount of room where it needs. Taking your first step it hits you that these are going to be taking you places. The long side zipper is heavenly being able to get in and out of the pants with ease, all while wearing shoes if you're in a rush or just forgot to put pants on before your shoes. You know it happened at least once. The integrated belt was interesting to see the design of how it held together, and it definitely held from anything you threw at it. Solid design! As every Arc'teryx piece you'll own, it will always live up to its name.

Let My Friend Tell You About These Pants
I’ve had these pants for about two weeks, before Everest and thailand for some trekking fun. I’ll be conducting a post trip review in addition to this one. Initial Reaction- Upon opening up and trying on these pants I can tell they are serious for some winter mountaineering. After trying them on some features popped up that I liked very much, like the more durable surface on the interior leg of the pant, and the hole in the bottom to allow hooking to boots. My favorite feature, upon initial inspection, was the full zipper down the side. This allowed me to try the pants on without taking off my boots and made notice of how quality quality design goes for miles. The convenient design of this pant with its use of zipper, velcro and snap buttons, shows this is for some serious hiking and climbing. The material feels strong and capable -Zippers don't catch on anything -Sturdy waterproofing on the zippers -Tight seal around my boots -Clip-in-belt works with no give or accidentally being undone under pressure Sizing seems true, I ordered 30 waist which is what I usually wear and It fits perfectly, with good room for movement in the crotch, waist and bend at the knee. Two weeks in- No complaints so far after regular use! The waterproofing on this stuff is ridiculous! As expected from Gore-tex this material is extremely water repellent and hold up well under regular use in snow and rain. Conclusion- Amazing waterproof shell pant for the price, that will surely work well years after purchase If properly taken care of.

Wasted too much time...
...trying to avoid these pants and the pricetag. Now, I don't care! I had been deal searching hardshell pants for a couple years just hoping for a good deal on a bombproof goretex multi-use pant. After multiple purchases and returns due to fit issues and performance issues (TNF, Norrona, Marmot) - I finally caved and got these. I now can see why they are highly regarded. I can literally Backpack, Bikepack, Bushwack (shroom season approaching), XC Ski, Ski Tour, Snowboard, Portage, etc. The cut, fit, and multiple sizing options are superb. Only gripe is the lack of belt loops for a multi-tool, but I'll manage! I'm not overweight by any means but I am a stout Midwesterner with thighs and a butt. Something many clothing companies miss on big time, but these pants are sa'weeet...

Great for those storm days when a softshell doesn't cut it. Highly recommended!

My first pair lasted for 10 years, which really surprised me. They held up wash after wash, season after season with no degradation in performance. I got a little larger in the waist over that time, so just picked up the XL version. My teenager is almost big enough to wear my old pair. Worth the price, fit me fine.

I love arcterx product and was really looking forward to these, for the price I expected a better fit. I am 6'4'' 197 lbs 34 waist 34 inseam. Ordered the Large tall and they we too big in waist legs and arse. plus I did not care for the single pocket design nor the crunchy fabric.

Great pants. One of the few goretex pants on the market available in short and long lengths.

I have skied with these pants several times already this season and they are amazing! As comfortable as a pair of jeans and as tough as nails. I have been thinking about purchasing a pair for a while and I am glad I finally did. While the pockets are limited to one on the right hip, all of the other features make up for it. I love the articulated design, as it keep the pants in place. The gaiters have a drawcord that keeps the cuffs synched around my ski boots, and there is a hook that can be unleashed to hook onto boots with laces or a d-ring to keep out the snow. In addition to the overall quality, the fit is perfect. I am 6' and 170lbs and the L/Reg fit great. Not too baggy and not too tight. I would expect nothing less from Arcteryx. Do yourself a favor and pick up a pair.

Great pants for a tall guy like me
Bought these a few months back and they have seen numerous ski days and a few mountaineering days. The quality on these pants is amazing as you would expect from Arcteryx. Like I said I'm a tall dude so I'm happy they make this in a long, when other companies fail to recognize making long sizes would be beneficial and same would go for short sizes as well. Great all around mountain pant but I would definitely say it's more of a snow outer layer. The thing I disliked was the pant only has 1 pocket so don't be prepared to get much in terms of storage capabilities out of these pants.

Be aware of flair at cuff!
These fell excellent with impeccable craftmanship as you would expect. I bought these as an all around rain/wind/snow/mountaineering pant thinking they would be just as good for rock climbing as they would for ice climbing, but when I received them found a larger flair at the lower cuff than I expected which made them feel 'baggy' at the feet if you're wearing rock shoes. In fairness these are NOT marketed as ideal for rock climbing, and if as a (poor) college student I could afford to have one pair for lightweight rock/alpine climbing and another for mountaineering I would choose these pants for ice and winter ascents in the mountains. 5 stars for craftmanship and fitting the bill for what they are stated to be designed for, returning these for the Zeta AR to continue the Arcteryx love affair. For fit previously had the Beta SL in a medium which fit fine, but the Beta AR medium felt just a touch too snug

I've owned these since 2006. Worn them up numerous mountains and down numerous ski hills. They fit neatly over ski and mountaineering boots, keep me dry, and fit superbly. Worth it.

Well made pants, but...
The Beta AR pants are built like a fortress. Just understand that while the pants show tremendous craftsmanship and will keep the moisture out, they are not ideally suited for skiing in most conditions IMO. These pants would be great as an all-rounder pant if you can only have one pant, but Arcteryx ski-specific pants are much nicer for resort skiing. Namely, I like the Stingray pant which still has a trim fit, but a nice felt lining for the slightest bit of insulation while still maintaining breathability. Additionally, the Beta AR pant only has one pocket...not the best for skiing. I cannot mark the Beta AR pants down for excelling at what they are supposed to do. Just know what you are getting.

Very nice from my initial impressions
Love the fact that these are so long (almost to long). This is rare for me, someone that wears 36 inseam pants usually. I bought the Medium Long. I have a 32 waist and they fit just about right, not to big for sure, if anything just a touch small in the waist. I am very happy with the fit and confort. It would be nice if the legs unzipped completely so you could put them on and off with out removing your skis, but I am not sure how often I would use that feature. 4 stars and I would give them 5 if they would have unzipped completely.

Bought as a gift
But I wished I had a pair!! These look and wear great from what I can see. The minimal belt system works like a charm. The individual wearing these is vertically challenged and the Med/Short fits spot on.

Another Arcteryx gortex that wets out
I purchased the latest Beta AR Pants in August when they came out. Today 30/12/13, they saw their first proper use. I went up Helvellyn. It rained, and rained, and snowed. Within 2 hours they had wet out around my groin (fly zipper was up). By the time i reached my car (3.5 hours), enough water had soaked into my trousers, which fried my mobile phone, which was in my pocket. Nice one Arcteryx! Why did they fail? They are BRAND NEW. They shouldn't need treating. You state 'guarantee waterproof protection'. Notice the key word WATERPROOF. I purchased these expecting to be kept dry. I think this is called 'misleading'. Arcteryx are good at one thing, its called Marketing. Don't be drawn in by it, because the Arcteryx bubble is an expensive bubble to burst.

Kyaw! I am one of our Arc'teryx ambassadors and would love to help. As for the pants, I would recommend you purchasing a size medium short or medium regular. If you have a shorter inseam than 30 inches I would recommend the short. The pant is a great option for you though, and you will be very happy with it! The medium at 33 inches waist will be perfect once you layer with it and use the integrated belt.

Are these pants not waterproof and windproof? I dont see that specifically in the tech specs like other pants. Are these better than the Arc'teryx Alpha SL Gore-Tex Pant? Seems like the Alpha should be better, which has full zips and is listed as a guaranteed waterproof and windproof shell. Yet that one is much less expensive. What am I missing?
January 8, 2017
Hey Scott, These will be both water and windproof, they're designed to be used in full on winter conditions. The Alpha SL is going to be meant as a much more lightweight hiking/camping waterproof pant option as oppsed to the Beta AR being designed for winter use. The best pant will depend on what you're planning on using them for mostly. Feel free to reach me at my direct line 801.204.4547 or my email firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any other questions on either of these pants! Best, Connor
