    As Waterproof as it gets

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Large
    • Height: 6'1"
    • Weight: 230lbs

I didn't use this jacket traditionally. I wore it underneath a waterfall and did not feel any water come through at all. My pants were soaked but my upper boy was bone dry!
The jacket does have a plasticky feel to it and has no insulation what so ever. It is a just a shell. But a pretty darn good shell at that!
This shell is great for skiing and snowboarding. Nothing is going to make through this shell. I would wear a sweater underneath depending on the weather but I usually wear a large and the jacket had enough room for a sweater underneath.
The price point might seem high but this jacket is going to last you years!
I definitely recommend this for any outdoor junkie that likes to stay dry!

    Amazing waterproofing!

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I stood under a waterfall for more than 10 seconds with this jacket. Soaked to the bone on my legs and completely dry on top! AFits true to size!

    Hard between sizes

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 6'0"
    • Weight: 175lbs

I couldn't be happier with the performance of this jacket. The fit can be a little bit hard to decide. I am a Large in most of Arc'teryx mid-insulated layers and they fit like a glove. (i.e. Cerium, Atom, Proton) But I have a hard time getting the fit I want out of both the Medium and Large. Large is too big on it's own, but with multiple layers it fits well. Medium fits better with fewer layers but will start to get a little snug with more layers. I'm 6' - 175 lbs. and went with a Medium. Little tight with layers but not bad. Really just depends on what you see yourself mostly doing in the jacket and decide from there. It is well worth the price and you will have it for several years to come. Highly recommended.

    Predictable sizing and durability

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Large
    • Height: 5'10"
    • Weight: 215lbs

My goal was to purchase a new shell that I could use for all four seasons. This was meant to be a hiking shell, biking shell, everyday rain shell, and the main use for me was a winter shell to wear over a lofty down jacket.

The only issue I have ever had with Arcteryx is their sizing. It's a brand that is built for tall, skinny, slim people. Not average height chubbies like me. I'm 5'10" 215 pounds 44 inch chest and 35 inch waist with a slight beer gut (the dad bod is in, guys). This forces me to purchase a large so I can get my broad shoulders in it and zip it over my modest belly. In doing so, I have a TON of extra material in the arms/arm pit area and the sleeves are hilariously long. If I use the velcro cinches around the wrist, there's a lot of material just bunched up on the arms making it look like I'm a kid wearing my dad's jacket. I will probably just start to roll the sleeves.

So as an everyday wear to work rain jacket, I've eliminated it and will have to look for something else. But for everything else, it was been exactly what I needed. Water beads off, durability makes it feel bulletproof, there's no question there. It's just the sizing that frustrates me even though it fits easily over my lofty down jacket.

So overall, another great product from Arcteryx with the expected sizing issues that I've always encountered. The only item that has ever fit me perfectly was the Atom LT in a large but overall the shells and larger insulated pieces are just too big for me and the mediums are too tight in the shoulders and torso. The features are design are great though. The visibility with the adjusting hood is a must. Pit-zips are flawless, pockets are deep and comfy, literally no issues at all.

    Good first impressions

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 5'11"
    • Weight: 177lbs

Yet to put the jacket through it's paces but first impression are very positive, everything is there as expected. Don't want to give it 5 stars as that may be a bit premature and this jacket ain't cheap.

In relation to sizing i'm 5'11& 175 pounds and the medium is perfect, i have plenty of room for ample layers, the torso and arm length is on the money.

    Bomber jacket for extreme conditions

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 5'8"
    • Weight: 170lbs

Great jacket if you ever find yourself in a major downpour sleet hail wind event. I wear a medium size and it fits well I’m 5 foot eight and 170 pounds big shoulders long arms. I would wear A light fleece on up to medium down jacket as a second layer And it is perfect

    POOR QUALITY CONTROL

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I wont be buying Arcteryx products again - my husband and I bought 3 products, one pants and two jackets and had problems with all of them.
We dont want refunds we just want gear that works. As we live in Mexico City it is really difficult to return stuff. The quality control is poor. My jacket zipper broke when I was pulling it up in a gentle/normal fashion - after two weeks of use. My husbands jacket got a whole in the lining and the buckle that keeps your paints off fell off my sentinel pants. 3/3 very bad experience
Over all the gear is poorly designed and doesnt have good quality control now that it is no longer made in Canada and all made in China.
Dont bother buying it if you want it to last for more than two weeks.

    Awesome Shell!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Large
    • Height: 6'2"
    • Weight: 160lbs

This jacket is awesome! The GORE-TEX waterproofing, along with the windproofing has kept me incredibly comfortable in a variety of conditions, hiking and riding in cold and snowy Utah and Wyoming. I love the cut on the jacket, it fits the body super well, and looks really really good! My dad has one of these too and also absolutely loves it!!! Highly recommend for a top layer in any condition. Fits true to size.

    THE best. Hands down.

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Xxl
    • Height: 6'2"

Ive had other shells before, but this one is the best performer ive ever had. Downpours are no longer an issue and wind? What wind?

    Issue with Size

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: small
    • Height: 5'10"
    • Weight: 148lbs

This jacket is obviously very well constructed and is made of the crunchy gore text pro that feels bullet proof. I just can't use this jacket because of the size. At 5-10 and a slim/average build the small is both overly baggy and too short at the same time. It's clear it's meant for layering in cold conditions, but then why barely make it come down to the belt? I would be swimming in this for just an outer rain layer climbing a 14er in summer.

Let My Friend Tell You About This Jacket

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 5'9"
    • Weight: 150lbs

I’ve had this jacket for about two weeks, before Everest and thailand for some trekking fun. I’ll be conducting a post trip review in addition to this one.
    Initial Reaction-
Upon opening up and trying on this I can tell they are serious for some mountaineering. This jacket had many pockets properly placed and with full waterproofing. It fit very well, with a little tightness in the shoulders. The convenient design of this jacket with its use of zipper, velcro and snap buttons, shows this is for some serious hiking and climbing. The material feels strong and capable.
    -Zippers don't catch on anything
    -Sturdy waterproofing on the zippers
-Well working hood with full head coverage
Sizing seems true, I ordered Medium which is what I usually wear and It fits perfectly, with good room for movement in the arms, and around the waist. All of this without it popping up too high while bending over. I feel well covered!
    Two weeks in-
No complaints so far after regular use!
The waterproofing on this stuff is ridiculous! As expected from Gore-tex this material is extremely water repellent and hold up well under regular use in snow and rain. The hood can be very well secured under windy conditions and tightening elastics works well.
Conclusion-Amazing waterproof shell jacket for the price, that will surely work well years after purchase If properly taken care of.

    Best shell I've ever owned

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size

This jacket has kept me dry more times then I can remember. Countless rain and snow storms. Even after having washed this jacket many times it has not lost its water repelling ability.

Skiing, Backpacking, Camping, Commuting to work this jacket comes with me anytime I might be getting any sort of bad weather.

The "do it all" hard shell from Arcteryx

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: medium
    • Height: 6'1"
    • Weight: 160lbs

If your considering purchasing the Arcteryx Beta AR do it!
The AR (All-Round) Hard shell is perfect in all sorts of different conditions from rainy environments in the Midwest to windy crags in the Wasatch. The 3 layer Gore-Tex Pro keeps the wind off your back and your a$$ dry. ;)
It may be on the more pricy end of the spectrum but its worth every penny and will serve you well.

I reviewed a lot of windproof and waterproof shells prior to purchase from many US and non-US providers. I purchased this before my June 2017 Iceland trip primarily for wind and was not disappointed. I intentionally selected this shell for hiking because i wanted a heavier shell material versus the hiking jacket. This jacket did not leak water or wind at all and was very comfortable to wear even with a pack. We hiked in rain, high wind and across several glaciers and when layered works great. The Arc'teryx Beta AR is noisy but that is a 3L product. I am about functionality so IMO I could care less about noise and more about dryness, comfort and warmth (w/ layering). I saw many other brands on the trip that seemed just as capable, so i don't think you would be disappointed with this 3L product. The backcountry site offered it with 30% discount over retail which helped sway me. As with any product, i highly recommend you care for the product as prescribed by the vendor to ensure long life.
