Axina Knicker

When your shell pants just aren't enough to keep your gams warm on those freezing cold chairlift rides, layer the Arc'teryx Women's Axina Knickers under your pants or bibs for that extra bit of warmth your legs need to make your day enjoyable. Arc'teryx designed the Axina to layer comfortably under a shell and maintain impressive amounts of breathability so you aren't sweating it out after your first lap. Coreloft synthetic insulation maintains insulating properties if it gets damp, and the combination of Fortius Air 40 and Torrent fabrics maximize breathability, mobility, moisture management, and odor control for complete comfort. A women's specific design layers comfortably with any hardshell pant or bib, and the knicker-length cut falls above ski or snowboard boots so they don't interfere with your shell's gaiters.

  • Insulated knickers designed for freezing cold ski days
  • Performance fabric maintains breathability and resists moisture
  • Coreloft synthetic fill maintains insulating properties when wet
  • Stretch panels promote mobility for an unhindered feel
  • Wide waistband with drawcord adjustment system
  • Low-profile design layers comfortably under any bib or pant
  • Arc'teryx specializes in minimalist designs and streamlined layering

My wife skis for 4-5 days a week for work and fun, and I picked these up for her after a few brutal cold snaps in the Wasatch. She says they're worth it and a half. On any (*ahem*) "normal" day above 15º F she wears yoga tights under Arc'teryx Sentinel shell pants. If it's between 0-15º F but she'll be moving/working hard, she swaps the yoga tights for fleece tights. However, if it's in the single-digits or below 0º F and she's not generating much heat aerobically, the Axina Knickers have been a game changer for staying comfortable... or just staying outside, period. At 60 grams of insulation, they're basically the equivalent of turning an Atom LT jacket into pants, but a touch heavier-feeling. She says she tends to run warm while skiing, so she saves them for the coldest days, but that if your bottom half runs cold or you're not jazzed on uninsulated shell pants in the resort, they'd likely be more of a constant companion. She has a size M in both the Axinas and the Sentinels, and says the wide, low-profile waistband makes it easy to layer the knickers underneath.
