Atom SL Hooded Jacket
Whether you're navigating a wet and brushy approach below treeline or a long traverse across high alpine ridge lines during the summer climbing season, the Arc'teryx Atom SL Hooded Jacket offers lightweight insulation, wind-resistance, and the breathability needed to keep moving at a quick clip in the mountains. The Atom SL has a hybrid construction that combines the insulating properties of a synthetic fill jacket with the breathability of a stretch fleece piece, giving you the best of both worlds for a wide swath of varying adventures. The body consists of 20D nylon that's treated with a DWR finish to repel moisture, while the sides are fitted with a breathable and stretchy Torrent fleece fabric to keep the jacket breathable during those highly aerobic ascents. The hood isn't insulated to help keep your dome dry and cool when you're on the move, and the No Slip Zip center zip is specifically engineered to stay put throughout the day.
- Versatile hybrid jacket balancing insulation with breathability
- Water-and wind-resistant fabric protects while maintaining stretch
- Slim fit keeps insulating properties close to your body
- Synthetic insulation traps body heat while allowing sweat to escape
- Stretchy fleece fabric side panel increases breathability
- Non-insulated hood allows your head to cool down while on the move
- Multiple pockets ensures small items stay close at hand

I hemmed and hawed on purchasing this jacket for months. I liked that it was ultralight and came in high-vis yellow but when I saw it in person I couldn't quite reconcile the cost with the amount of jacket, especially when compared to the Atom LT which is frequently discounted while this hasn't been. To say that I already love this jacket is an understatement - it is surprisingly warm. I think this will make an excellent replacement for fleece midlayers (which I hate) for fall/winter hiking and bike commutes when its windy. The sleeves are cut a little long and shaped to contour the top of the hand so that only the fingers extend past the hem (instead of having a thumbhole, I assume). Overall I think the cut is true to size.

A go to jacket
I got this jacket for my sister and this is her go to jacket in the spring and fall. It’s light, comfortable and easy to pack if needed. She uses it for everyday use as well ask hiking and running. It's easy to wash and care for. She's 5’3” and 115lbs and went with the small.

Go to Light Jacket
I purchased this jacket as a gift for my wife, this is what she has to say, "I wanted this jacket as a light option for when it is too warm for my Atom LT Hooded Jacket. The Castaway color is beautiful if you are into very bright outwear (which I am)! It is lighter than I was anticipating, but that just means it is even more multi-functional! I typically wear an Large in Arc'teryx gear, and this is no different, it fits just right with room for a light fleece underneath to bridge the temperature gap between SL and LT even better. This jacket is an excellent addition to anyone's outer wear set, to bridge the time between summer and winter, and look great too! Something important to note that is not immediately apparent from the pictures is that the sleeves are not insulated at all, only the body of the jacket is insulated. So it gives you just the right amount of core warming on days with just the slightest chill in the air. But if you wanted insulated sleeves, look elsewhere."

Just as Good as Everyone Says!
I just received my Arc'teryx Atom SL Hoody and it is BRILLIANT! Lightweight and trim-fitting but warm. I bought it in the green "Creekside" colour and love it! I'm 5'7" and 140lbs and wear a 36C bra. Medium fits perfectly with enough room for a light base layer underneath, but if I wanted to layer more under it then I'd need to size up to a large - especially to have enough room through the chest. It's nice and long in the sleeves for my longish arms. Wore it outside on a 10°C (50°F) day with a cool wind and only a singlet and shorts and it felt light as a feather yet warm and nicely wind resistant. The material is wonderfully soft and stretchy and it's cut well so you get great freedom of movement through the arms. Dropped hem in the rear keeps your lower back and rear nicely covered. Hip length in front. Looks and feels GREAT!

My Go-To Lightweight Jacket
I live in Southern Arizona where the temperatures range from 10F to 105F. This jacket has become my favorite for a number of activities. I've worn it casually (it has a lovely shape and a clean style), hiking, backpacking, and horseback riding. I love that it packs up so small I can fit it in a hydration pack or even a small purse. It cuts the wind really well and sheds rain beautifully too. It's listed as a Trim Fit, but will fit over a sweater or thick shirt well. It is not a winter coat, but works well as a mid layer in cold weather, or as the perfect outer layer for high activity in cold weather. The curved hem on the sleeves is a really nice touch as it covers the back of your hand nicely. The fabric is resistant to dirt and liquids and launders really well. I am short, with an athletic build, wear a 36B bra, and the XS fits perfectly with room in the pockets for my iPhone 8 Plus. The pockets are set high enough to not interfere with the waist belt on my hydration pack or backpack. I purchased the Astral Aura which is a beautiful dark-ish purple on the blue side.

Perfect lightweight midlayer
I LOVE this jacket. Last season, I was on the hunt for a lightweight, breathable, packable midlayer to add to my ski touring kit. After trying a few different options, I decided to splurge on the this Arc’teryx jacket, and I could not be happier with my decision. I wear this over a merino baselayer on every touring mission. It is quite light, so not great for those looking for a warm, insulation layer, but it’s perfect for touring and keeps me warm enough during uphill travel, without the bulk and sweat I associate with bigger insulated jackets. The hood is great for windy ridges, and it zips over your chin and mouth for added protection and comfort. I love the length and fit -slightly tapered at the waist, and hits just below my hips. I also use this jacket for shoulder season and alpine hiking and mountain biking adventures. I would recommend this for anyone who tours or hikes and is a looking for a versatile, high quality layer.

Great Spring Jacket
This jacket was very lightweight, great for spring or early fall. However it was thinner than I needed. I ordered it in Astral Aura, which was more purple than I was expecting. It seems like it would be a great waterproof and wind resistant jacket, but doesn't give any insulation. Unfortunately I had to return it because it was not what I needed at this time.

Perfect Spring Weight
This is a perfect jacket for running and hiking when the air is crisp. Fit is great, definitely a trim and flattering fit.

Packs a warm punch.
Talk about heavyweight performance in a lightweight package. I've been on the hunt for a lightly (think just over four sheets of paper thin) insulated jacket that not only offers wind-and-water resistant protection, but also won't overwhelm me warmth-wise when embarking upon aerobic activities (read : skiing, trail running, etc): and the Atom SL Hooded Jacket is it! This jacket may share the same name as its older cousin, the Atom LT, but it's a different jacket in the sense that it's far more light and versatile. I find that the Atom LT works best for me on cold-cold days, while the SL excels in all climates as a proper insulating midlayer. My personal favorite is to wear the SL as a stand-alone piece while trail running in cold weather. However, my husband has noted that he thinks this piece would be most ideal for backcountry touring (which, my jacket has inspired him to pick up one for himself!). Additionally, I can foresee myself wearing this during summer alpine adventures where the conditions and temperatures fluctuate. The Atom SL fills a void that I was otherwise filling with much-too-heavy insulated layers. As its name suggests, the Atom SL is incredibly light, yet tough - so, I don't have to worry about the exterior fabric ripping at the sight of bramble or coarse rock. The thin layer of Coreloft insulation ensures I stay warm even when wet—meaning I can wear the Atom SL on its lonesome in inclement weather and not worry about my warmth being compromised. Additionally, the Coreloft insulation regulates my core temperature with ease, making it ideal for stop-and-go, sweaty activities. The stretch panels on the side bolster my temperature regulation, and provide unimpeded mobility. Admittedly, I didn't even realize that the sleeves weren't insulated until my hubby pointed it out, which was kind of a surprise to me and I really love it. The mesh lining on the sleeves wicks away moisture, dries quickly, and also offers subtle warmth - but without bogging me down. I love the princess-inspired cuffs, which double down on your protection even when you've extended your reach. The non-insulated hood is a huge plus: I barely notice it's there when I'm trail running, or when I've layered atop it - yet it still protects me when I need it most (a bulky hood happens to be a huge pet peeve of mine and drives me absolutely crazy). The hand pockets are harness or hip belt compatible, which is another huge plus. As for the fit, I own a Small in the Atom LT but picked up an XS in the SL and it fits perfectly! I can even layer an insulated vest underneath the jacket should I desire it. For fit reference, I wear an XS in all Patagonia items.
