Alpha SV Jacket

When Arc'teryx set out to improve upon its already legendary Alpha SV Jacket, the seemingly contradictory concepts of lighter and stronger instantly came to mind, seeing that it's the go-to choice for 100-day skiers, professional mountain guides, and alpinists scaling the world's most daunting peaks. The current iteration of the Arc'teryx Women's Alpha SV Jacket leverages a 100-denier nylon face (what Arc'teryx calls N100p-X) over the previous 80-denier fabric for twice the abrasion-resistance and 50% more strength against tears. It retains the dependable Gore-Tex Pro 2.0 3-layer membrane for rugged waterproofing and high levels of breathability when you're making first tracks on waist-deep days or pushing up peaks in the worst conditions imaginable.

  • Arc'teryx's strongest shell for alpinism, skiing, and mountaineering
  • 3-layer Gore-Tex Pro 2.0 gives waterproof, breathable protection
  • Durable face fabric reinforces jacket from tears and abrasion
  • Gore seam sealed for weight savings and extra breathability
  • Underarm zippers increase active-use ventilation
  • Cohaesive hem adjuster prevents riding up with climbing harness
  • High pockets work with backpack hip belt or harness
  • All external zippers are WaterTight for maximum water-resistance
  • Item #ARC00JP

The Ultimate Alpine Jacket

Fit:
True to size

The Alpha SV is as far as I'm concerned the toughest jacket out there and the ultimate alpine shell. This 3L Gore-tex Pro shell is as durable as they come and is built with more detail than I've seen in any jacket. It is 15.5 oz, has a hip-length 28.5 center back length, and a regular fit to accommodate layering.

I got a medium and I had a small before that: I repurchased it cuz it’s an excellent jacket. The front pockets are life savors when u want to get stuff out quickly and you’re still wearing your backpack. It’s an excellent jacket. I’m short and have big hips and small upper body so finding jackets that fit is problematic With the small. The upper part and arms were perfect but it was s little snug on the hips so u use to draw the string and flip it over so the jacket is more cropped. With the medium, the hips are perfect but the arms are a bit too long. But it is a little fitter around the waist so it’s flattering. I bought the orange before and now the neon yellow. The yellow is gorgeous in real life. I replaced the old one bc it was mentioned that you could put it in the washer. DONT! It caused weird bubbles to appear

Back to pre-mainstream Arcteryx

Haven’t put to the test yet, but the quality and design brings me back to finding Arcteryx for the first time in Boston in 1999, riding in all kinds of wind, rain, sleet, wet terrain in the northeast. I am 5’4, 120 lbs and the SM fits perfectly for my needs - plenty of room to layer when needed, and relaxed fit when I just need rain or wind protection all year long. The longer sleeves provide versatility and the more relaxed (vs slim, snug) fit provide year round use vs this kind of splurge on a seasonal purchase. Macaw color is outstanding.

sleeves way too long

Fit:
Runs large
Size Bought
Small

I'm typically a true to size small on most jackets... except Arcteryx. Sleeves are way too long and the jacket itself is kind of baggy. For the expense of this jacket I'd expect a better fit. Great color. Wish you'd use a different shipper than OnTrac as they're quite unreliable, but that's off topic.

It did everything I needed it to do!

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I went to Patagonia hiking and the weather changes on a dime. This coat was excellent. I love when people say their size in their reviews so I will as well. I am 5'3" 130 lbs. I bought the medium so I could put extra layers under it and and still move comfortably. I could have gone with the small....but I wanted it a little baggy.

YAY! I'm so glad this worked out for you Maria.

The Best.

Got this for my wife. Performs great and has great features. The pockets are thoughtfully laid out and she especially loves the "Hemlock" feature that helps stop the jacket from riding up over a harness or a pack's waist strap. If you won't settle for anything but the best. Look no further.

I have been shopping for a hard shell that will stand up to snowboarding, rainy concerts at Red Rocks and anything else I need it to do. I have an hourglass shape so finding something wide enough at the bottom without being oversized at the chest was key. I got the XL to accommodate layers and it fits great and performed well on rainy hikes this fall. The snow is falling so snowboarding is around the corner.

Appreciate the insight on the use of the coat in winter sports and rainy day. That’s exactly what I am looking for.

Bombproof Shell

I got this jacket as a gift for my stepmom, who was in desperate need of a new shell and kept running into fit issues. She put this one on and it fit like a glove! No weird zipper bulk in the front that gives the weird uni-boob look. The drop-hem is a nice touch to help protect on the wetter days without being too long. And it actually fit through the torso and sleeve length- everything else from Patagonia was fitting her short. The material on the shell is nice as well, not super stiff but definitely bombproof and ready to protect against the wind and precip. Zipper works smoothly, doesn't get stuck. She wears a Medium in most tops and a Medium in this jacket fits nice with enough room for a couple of layers. Another top notch product from ArcTeryx!
