Aerios FL GTX Hiking Shoe

When it was designing the Aerios FL GTX Hiking Shoe, Arc'teryx pulled inspiration from long-distance trail running shoes to create a hiker that provides support, comfort, and confidence when you're out on fast and light hikes on varied terrain. As the miles add up throughout the day, the durable Cordura mesh uppers withstand the abuse of the trail while the Gore Invisible Fit technology keeps your feet dry. This Gore Invisible Fit technology is comfortable, lightweight, and waterproof so you'll barely notice it's there as you charge through shallow stream crossings and muddy trails. Agility, confidence, and stability come from the TPU shank in the midsole and the durable Vibram MegaGrip soles that keep you hiking fast and light on shifting terrain in the high alpine.

  • Fast and light shoe for long-distance day hikes on technical trails
  • Durable Cordura mesh uppers hold up to abrasions of long fast miles
  • Gore Invisible Fit tech blocks moisture and provides a flexible fit
  • OrthoLite molded inserts ensure comfort as you speed through miles
  • TPU shank increases stability and underfoot confidence on the trail
  • Layered spring sole system ensures a buoyant ride for efficiency

I was looking for a light hiking shoe that I could also use for mountain trail running on uneven terrain. I chose these shoes based on the reviews and because they were the least ugly waterproof trail runners I found. The sizing is way off. In street shoes, I'm a 10 or a 9.5; based on reviews to size down if between sizes, I bought a 9.5, which was still huge. The width was fine, but the length at the toe was so extreme that the tip of the shoe would fold over with my step. I tried a size 9 (which, for the record, I haven't worn since I was 12 years old), and the length is good but the width was too narrow and made my pinky toes numb after only a few miles. I have slightly wider feet than average, but not by too much. I hope I can find another shoe that is not hideous, like so many hiking & trail running shoes are. The sizing on this one just didn't work for me.

I was excited to get low ankle hiking sneakers from arcteryx. I love the look, they are very light and seem to have great grip on slippery surfaces like rocks etc. Sadly these are not very waterproof. I just put them on in Maine to walk from a guest house to the main house through some (mowed so. not too tall) grass covered in morning dew and they got wet. I don’t have high hopes for them in the rain unless I spray them with waterproofing spray. I have goretex sneakers from another brand (not hiking ones) and I think I will stick to them on wetter days, and use my mid ankle hiking boots for hikes with risk of rain or wet terrain. These will be only used for sunny hikes on dirt and rocks.

I love these shoes, something I rarely say. I bought a pair in blue for a walking tour last September and haven't taken them off. Being waterproof, I could wear them during the winter when I didn't need boots. Now I'll have a back-up pair in green. I do like the color of the sole on the blue pair better than on the green, but they're still cool. I'm always getting asked about the blue pair.
