This product is a must have if you fish dries or enjoy catching fish. Getting your leader to not be a curly q is a full time job, unless you have this fancy lil straightener! Get your leader wet when you get down to the river's edge than then run your leader through this guy about 3 times with pretty even pressure, just be gentle over the knots or when you get down into your tippet. Using this without having your leader or the straightener wet is not reccomended as it will certainly make the job harder, damage the straightener, and possibly damage your leader if it gets too hot. Greatll all around product with a sturdy leather construction and proper clamp. Get one for each of your packs or vests.

If you want to stop burning your hands while straightening your leaders then this is the tool for the job. It works great, it's fast and you get better presentation as a result. Just be careful not to squeeze too hard and burn your line!

    a must have

If you like to fish with flies, then you need one of these bad boys.
no more curled up leader and tippet.
Just dont hold the line too tight and burn your leader

    So convenient

I was lucky enough to get the last one that had in stock! This little gadget is genius. No more finger cuts! No longer need to use my fingers to straighten out my leader. Just grab this little guy to straighten on my leader and within 5 seconds, I am ready to go!

It's the soul mate of your leaders & tippet. It just works!

*Revised* - Downgrade to 3 stars. Perhaps I put too much pressure on the pads when straightening out my leaders, but this leader straightener started developing gashes in it that would coat my leaders with a black film. It was possible to remove most of the film, but very, very annoying. I bought a straightener from a different company and will see what happens w/ it. This one still gets the job done, but if my new one doesn't coat my leaders with a film, I will have to not recommend this one.

    Does the job!

As stated in the reviews below, this is a necessity to have on the water! I know some folks swear that the 'ol paws work just fine, but hey, I'm a lady and it hurts to line straighten by hand! This has been a great accessory to keep on the pack. It works quick and does its job to straighten your line. Recommended for any fisherperson!

Catch more fish with a straight leader

Yeah you can straighten a leader with your hands but it burns! Using this makes sure I straighten it out all the way. A coil free leader will cast better, give better presentation, and helps a ton with your hook set!

      Opinion changed

All those little kid fly fishing kits and everything came with leader straighteners, so I brushed it off as some useless tool that I can better do with my hands. Well, many cuts later I have finally gone back and pruchased one myself. I was an idiot before! These things are great. Such a simple design/idea, but it really saves the pain on the river, literally.

I have been asked "why spend time straightening a leader?" Well... would you eat a fly surrounded by circular coils? Also, a straight leader will improve casting accuracy!
