    Superior Performance.

If your cup of tea entails a pre-dawn cruise through the local trail system, then the Altra Men's Superior 3.5 Trail Running Shoe might just be the complementary creamer to your earl grey. Incidentally enough, the designers at Altra listened to your feedback about the Superior 3.0 and outfitted the 3.5 with a series of improvements. To start, the Superior 3.5 now features accurate sizing, structural overlays in the upper, and a subtle flare on the outsole lugs to maintain traction.

In dependable Altra fashion, the Superior features a Zero Drop platform that places your heel and forefoot at the same distance for a natural stride. An A-Bound midsole includes EVA foam for the right amount of lightweight cushion and energy rebound with a low profile and not a lot of bulk. InnerFlex grooves provide flexibility in the midsole for better grip with every step, and Altra added a Contour footbed for extra cushioning. There's also a removable StoneGuard insole that provides lightweight protection from sharp rocks when you're boulder hopping or surfing your way down loose scree fields.

The Superior 3.5 features Altra's TrailClaw sole, which models sticky rubber after your foot's bones and tendons to give natural flex and targeted support in key areas. The famous FootShape toe box lets your toes spread out naturally to ensure stability on rugged terrain. Up top, Altra equipped the Superior 3.0 with a quick-drying and durable Air Mesh upper to ventilate and keep your foot cool, and it finished the Superior off with its Gaiter Trap, which lets you securely attach gaiters to the shoe without having to wrap them under your sole.

    • Revamped version of Altra's popular Superior trail runner
    • Reinforced upper increases shoe's overall durability
    • Air mesh upper dries quickly after creek crossings
    • 4-Point GaiterTrap technology keeps debris out of socks
    • Toe box is designed to allow for natural toe splay
    • DuraTread sole with TrailClaw clings to loose, rocky trails
    • Fully cushioned midsole with Zero Drop technology
    • Item #ATR003Z

    Committed to zero drop.

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 10.5
    • Height: 5'11"
    • Weight: 205lbs

I got turned on to zero-drop and wide toe boxes about 9 years ago. It totally transformed my trail running and hiking experiences. My calves are much stronger. I've been using the Superior for a couple of years now. I used to use use Merrells but prefer the toe box on the Altra products. The Superior is not minimalist but it is also not super cushiony.

I recently bought a pair of Lone Peaks to go backpacking in and they were fantastic (even with 20 pounds on my back). After that trip, I took the Lone Peaks out for trail running but found myself tripping a bit as they are much beefier than the Superiors and it is harder to feel the trail with them.

By the way...Altra's casual sneakers are awesome.

    Altra sizing

This shoe is incredible, supportive and a perfect amount of cushion for shorter distance trail runs. The removable rock plate really helps to drop weight on less technical trails or road to trail runs. Unfortunately, the sizing was way off for me and I was in between sizes with this years model. Wish it would have worked out as the superior is a great shoe.

    Blown Away

This is my first pair of Altra's and I have put these to the test out on the trails as well as for casual use. The science behind Zero Drop impresses me and the way I feel while running, and after I take them off, is incredible. If you haven't had the opportunity to try these out yet, I would highly recommend it. Altra recommends sizing up about 1/2 size...

    Favorite Hiking Shoe

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size

These are my second pair of Altra's and they are even better than my first pair, which I didn't think was possible. The update on the superior is not that noticeable, but the ankle support seems to be more secure; and the overall breathability has improved. I use these shoes whenever I go hiking, from the deserts to the mountains and they work great in a variety of conditions. These are great for the minimal feel and have a great very minimal amount of cushion. Another great shoe from Altra

    I’m an Altra addict

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 13
    • Height: 6'2"
    • Weight: 170lbs

This is my 6 th pair of Altra shoes, I don’t own 6 pairs of superior shoes lol
I liked the look of the OG superiors but never picked Them up.
Today I got a pair of 3.5 superiors. First impression is they fit great.
Comfortable. They have the grip of the Temps but a lower sole for better balance.
I hope to give them a run this coming weekend to see they offer.

    Upgrade

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size

My family is a huge Altra fan and it is what we always come back to when we've maxed out the miles on our shoes. I got these for my dad to replace his 3.0 pair. My understanding with Altra is that the 0.5 upgrades are not major differences (just minor between materials and seam sewing and such). When they upgrade a whole number then they give the shoe more of a noticeable tweaking. So the 3.0 and 3.5 aren't that different. These continue to preform excellent. My dad loves the wide toe box for natural movement of your bones in your foot combined with the 0mm drop. If he is out for less than a marathon he goes for these. But if he is running an Ultra he goes for a more padded model like the Olympus.

Sizing compared to the Altra Superior 3.0 and 2.0? In those shoes, I've had to size up one full size.
