    High and mighty.

Whether you're running an ultra, fast packing, or thru-hiking, you can count on the combination of maximum cushion and the sticky rubber sole of the Altra Olympus 3.0 to carry you long and hard on the trail. Altra focuses on eliminating common injuries with its designs, and you can expect all the characteristics of an Altra shoe in the Olympus. Examples of this include the zero drop platform that provides a low impact landing, a breathable mesh upper, and the FootShape toe box that is wider than most shoes allowing toes to naturally splay for more stability and powerful push offs.

The cushioning of the Olympus is 33 millimeters of dual-layer EVA midsole that employs A-Bound and InnerFlex technologies. A-Bound foam is made of recycled materials and protects your foot from hard surfaces while increasing energy return. InnerFlex lightens the midsole package for more speed and better performance with grid-like grooves throughout the midsole that keep everything more flexible and lightweight. This cushion package keeps your run flexible, responsive, and comfortable.

The Vibram MegaGrip and TrailClaw sole is what sets the Olympus apart from other trail shoes in the Altra line up. Vibram is made of extra sticky rubber that really grips on any trail surface, wet or dry. The TrailClaw lugs are strategically placed under the bones of the foot to give optimal, supported traction. These two technologies combined provide unparalled grip, rugged longevity, and excellent adaptability to any trail you decide to tackle. To top off the whole package, the Olympus is equipped with GaiterTrap technology with the ability to secure your gaiters to your trail shoe effortlessly to keep dirt and debris out so you can focus on logging miles.

Heel padding slides down inside of shoe

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

This is the 4th or 5th pair of Altra Olympus shoes I have owned. I have loved each and every pair until these shoes arrived. Unfortunately, either I received a defective pair or the manufacturer has changed the production of this shoe. The heel padding slides down inside the shoe creating a huge lump that is uncomfortable. I contacted Backcountry requesting a replacement pair or my money back.

    Light, supportive and awesome!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I'm loving these shoes. I normally run in the Altra lone peak shoe for the past couple years, but I've been training a little more sporadically and having some aches and pains with skiing this year. I bought this model to try something with more cushion, and they've been awesome. They fit me very similar to the lone peak, and they don't feel heavy or bulky.

    Unanswered Question

Are these true to the size or are they like the Olympus 2.5 where you have to go a 1/2 to 1 size bigger?
