Aside from the fact that it's named after one of the most prominent peaks on the Wasatch front—our very own backyard—the blend of comfort and performance of the Altra Lone Peak Hiking Boot on both technical and tame hikes is what really won us over. A cushioned, supportive midsole keeps energy levels high until we reach the peak, while the Duratread outsole picks up the slack of tired legs with a confident grip on the way down.

Comfort over durability

I love the comfort of this shoe because there is not break-in process. I can hike for hours with little to no discomfort. The only downfall is the durability of the tread. This shoe doesn’t last long. It’s grippy when new but it wears out fast. Don’t plan on getting tons of miles from this shoe if you are putting in the miles.

Run short
- Size Bought:
- 11

I am a true measured 10.5, and I ordered the 11. The wide toe box of these shoes is well known, but I was surprised at how roomy these Altras are. Loved the feel of the toe box and wanted to get something to let my toes really stretch outward. These are the shoe I desperately wanted to keep, but they unfortunately don’t work for me. My second toe just barely touches the end of the shoe and would be a nightmare for descents in hiking socks. I think these shoes are great for folks with a naturally wider front foot, but they run short in sizing and I can’t get another half size up.
