Lone Peak 4 Mid Mesh Trail Running Shoe
Despite the fact that an additional waterproof lining can come in handy, not all terrain calls for the added protection—especially if the climate is hot, too. Case in point, the Altra Men's Lone Peak 4 Mid Mesh Trail Running Shoe is designed to meet you halfway, offering you ample ankle protection and fast-packing capabilities combined with breathable performance.
Building off of the success of Altra's Lone Peak NeoShell, this trail running shoe features a similar concept and constitution, minus the weatherproof layer. And like all Altra shoes, the Lone Peak 4 is endowed with a wide girth and zero drop platform, ensuring a natural stride. Additionally, the mesh upper provides ample ventilation, without letting in sand and other grit, while the redesigned GaiterTrap now touts four points of attachment rather than two. A springy EVA midsole attenuates impact, enhances energy return, and provides a structured, supportive feel underfoot, and the StoneGuard is just flexible enough to maintain trail-feel and defends your foot at the same time. And, last but not least, the rugged outsole chews up and spits out terrain as you rack up the miles.

I live/hike in NC piedmont and mountains with lots of wet/humid weather. These have great breathability and ankle support. If you don't need the ankle support I'd go ahead and get the lower cut as my ankle can get a little sweaty on a hike. I dinged these one star only because the sole isn't as grippy as my previous contra grip equipped trail runners. The toe box is more comfy and the shoe is lighter so overall better than my previous shoes, but there are lots of slick rocks to watchout for in the Altra's...
