Conquer the trail, no matter the weather.

Sprinting up steep alpine trails is no easy task. It's even tougher when you consider the heavy precipitation trapped by imposing ranges and formidable peaks. Protect yourself from soaking-wet trails with the Altra Men's Lone Peak 3.0 Neoshell Trail Running Shoe. Equipped with the weatherproof protection and improved ventilation of a Polartec Neoshell membrane, the Lone Peak 3.0 Neoshell keeps your feet blissfully dry from pouring rain, puddle splashes, and mud-caked trails, while stil breathing exceptionally well.

Staying true to Altra's Zero Drop running philosophy, the Lone Peak 3.0 features a Zero Drop platform that places the heel and forefoot at the same distance from the ground. Not only does this design platform naturally align your feet, but more importantly, it promotes smooth landing without the high-impact of an elevated heel. Going one step further for a natural running position, FootShape design naturally spreads out toes, instead of the squeezed stance of traditional running shoes with narrower toe boxes.

Protecting your feet, StoneGuard maximizes protection from stone bruises when you're cruising across craggy ridges and rocky mountain trails. The cushioned EVA midsole lends the shoe a plush feel without sacrificing ground feel or being overly bulky. And because you'll be running up and down inclines, the TrailClaw lugged sole ensures traction for sprinting uphill and braking control on steep downhills.

    • Trail running shoe promotes natural stride with Zero Drop

Great winter version of the Lone Peak

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 9.5

Bought this for a friend, this is his feedback: Love the breathable version of the Lone Peak, wanted to try these for winter trails. Really impressed with this shoe. The NeoShell construction give a little more rigidity to the upper, but other than that, it feels like the original Lone Peak. Very impressed with the waterproofness (had my concerns initially) - have had multiple days with gaiters on these and snow above the ankles for long hikes/runs, and have wound up with dry socks every time. Highly recommended.

Lone Peak 3.0 Neo WP - Great Shoe!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 11.0
    • Height: 6'0"
    • Weight: 195lbs

There are several things I like about these shoes:
    1) Wide Toe Box; I very much prefer a rounded toe box. I don't like a pointed/narrow toe box and these are perfect. There isn't any slop in the toes either, so no hotspots. Also, it doesn't look goofy for casual wear. It's actually fairly stylish in an outdoorsy/athletic way.
    2) Zero Drop Heel - these really allow for a more natural stride, walking or running
    3) Comfortable on day 1/no break in period. I cannot speak to longevity yet, however so far there are no early signs of premature wear and tear. So I expect these to last a while.

There are only two things that stick out that to be aware of...
    1) A little warm - with WP membrane, these do run a little warm, especially if you're wearing them casually inside. But it's not a deal killer at all.
    2) Sole is a bit thick for my personal preference, but I knew that going into getting these shoes and so far it's been great with no issues.

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size

I got these for a very good friend who loves trail running/running but also wears Altra's as an everyday shoe as well! Not to mention they last forever. Steve has been using these on the trail and is in love, They are so sturdy and secure. They have a lot of support and for someone like him who needs to be on their feet all day he loves wearing these around town too. The wide toe box is extremely comfortable and great for running!

    Not my favorite shoes

I like everything about these running shoes, except for the rigid points on either side of your achilles that nearly makes running in these impossible for me. The toe box and arch support are comfortable but the kicker for me all goes back to the achilles. It could be my particular foot that doesn't work well with it.

    Favorite shoes!

These are awesome. Insanely comfortable, pretty much have not taken them off since buying them. Great trail grip for the ascents, wide toe box keeps your toes stub-free on descents! They’re also surprisingly good for bartending as they keep me comfortable on my feet all night and they’re waterproof!

    Good shoes, not for me

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 11

These seem really well made but just didn't work for my feet. There was a pinch point on my forefoot. When the shoe was flexed. They offer a wide toe box and solid construction. My feet tend to be high volume although not necessarily wide and they just weren't comfortable.

    My dad's second favorite

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

My dad is an avid ultra runner, both trail and road. These are his favorite trail shoes. He does this weird thing where he wears a size bigger when he's training then a smaller size for his races so I got him 2 sizes and he has this to share:

I am a huge Altra fan. I plan to use these for an upcoming Bryce 100 in June. I'm excited about the waterproof NeoShell and that they are gator ready. These are great on wet/muddy trails! They add a bit of stability on rocky surfaces and provide good traction in muddy areas. The NeoShell kept out most water while letting the shoe breathe. I definitely recommend these for off-road experience!

Updated review: He didn't love these as much as he hoped he would running his longer distances. He prefers the Altra Olympus and switched back to those for longer ultra runs. These guys gave his feet some pain. But he thinks these are fine for shorter runs.

    Best Zero Drop shoe

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 11

All day I am on my feet and conventional sneakers would wear them out after a long day at work. I had heard so much about zero drop shoes and I have tried some that had very little sole to them. I could feel every pebble underfoot. These have an enormous amount of cushion. They are light, they are quick. I feel like I can stand in them all day long. I intentionally got a half size larger just because of comfort. I haven't tried them out on the trail yet, just have them for work. Also, the design gets me a bunch of comments. Highly recommend these or any of the Altra name.

    As advertised...

I've worn these shoes in all kinds of weather over the past month. Rain, mud, snow, and slop. They perform as advertised. My feet are warm and dry after every run. Tread is aggressive and helps keep you upright when things are slick. The upper is more substantial than the LP 2.5. The cut is definitely more "streamlined" so I needed to order a 1/2 size up from my usual size. Good shoe!

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
      • Size Bought: 13
      • Height: 6'2"

I've been trying to find these shoes in my size for quite some time. Just picked a pair up and wore them down to cedar city over the weekend. Very nice shoes, they have awesome grip. And very comfortable as well.

Lightweight & amazing fit for wide feet

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I picked up a pair of these somewhat recently and am really liking them.

I have a pair of the Lone Peak 2.5 without the waterproof Neoshell and in a side by side comparison it seems that these fit a bit smaller, even though my 2.5s are 10.5 sized. The previous version have a super large toe box which is great for groomed trail running and long treks as they are pretty much guaranteed to never blister up your toes. I have wide feet so they're great for me.

This current version seems to have reduced the size of that toe box - streamlined them even, not a bad thing, just different.. the 2.5s were borderline floppy. I haven't had them in a wet scenario yet but plan on using them this winter for a trek around Torres Del Paine.

Thumbs up to Altra for consistently producing quality products.
