King MT 2 Trail Running Shoe

If you're the type of runner who doesn't shy away from rugged terrain and muddy mountain trails then point your way towards the Altra King MT 2 Trail Running Shoe. Aggressive outsole lugs and grippy rubber help you scramble up steep trails and keep your footing no matter the conditions, while updates to the drainage performance ensure that you can stay (relatively) comfortable on wet and muddy days. The newest version of the King MT still uses Vibram Megagrip rubber for traction in both wet and dry conditions, but uses an updated Litebase compound that offers the same performance with a thinner construction and less weight than before. 6mm lugs dig into soft trails, and the widened drainage ports at the forefoot ensure that moisture from puddles and rainy skies has somewhere to escape.

Continuing with its emphasis on rugged performance, the King MT features a hook-and-loop midfoot strap that keeps your fit supportive and secure as you bound over roots and rocks. Meanwhile, soft yet responsive midsole cushioning provides a comfortable step that's still packed with lots of energy, and a special hook-and-loop tab allows you to attach gaiters to keep out dirt and rocks as you charge up and down dusty mountain trails. And since it's an Altra, you've got all the benefits of their foot-friendly design, including a ZeroDrop design that encourages a healthy midfoot strike and a wider toe box that'll help your toes spread out naturally for better performance and comfort.

Way Too Small Versus Other Altra Shoes

Familiarity:
I returned this product before using it
Size Bought:
10.5
Height:
6' 3"
Weight:
230

I own a pair of Altra Lone Peak 4 shoes that I like but they didn't hold up well and they were really too big for me (Size 11). So I ordered these in a 10.5 thinking they'd be a better fit. This model is WAY SMALLER than the Lone Peaks. Could barely get them on, even in a thin sock and my larger foot was crushed up against the toe box with bent toes. ??? Could they actually be defective? The box and sewn in tag both say 10.5. Huge disappointment. Really like the design of the shoe but I really have no idea what size to get now. Huge variation from model to model. And to add to the confusion I see reviews on the Altra site referencing other models running large. Want to like this brand because they are comfortable as heck but the manufacturing tolerances do not appear to be very good at all. Try them on in a store because your normal size is probably not going to work.
