Energy zappers
Unlike many others' reviews, I didn't mind the alterations to the construction of the shoe as much as I have not liked the sole/foam. Every time I run in these (just hit 300 miles in the shoe, I'm < 150 pounds) I notice I'm working much harder than when I'm running in the Torin 7's or the Escalante Racers and my legs feel fatigued. This is only exacerbated when they get wet running in the rain. If the response to this is 'well, 300 miles - you're nearing the end of the shoe's life,' then my review changes to this being a total durability issue. A shoe at this price with my weight should last through 400+.

A glorious return to running assisted by the Altra Escalante
Can again run long distances with minimal chronic knee or shin pain (previously an issue with over-cushioned Brooks shoes). Zero-drop is a game changer. About 200 miles in and no sign of wear at all.

This can do it all! Excellent.
I went to try on a few shoes and I knew the second I slipped the Escalante on that I had to have them. They feel responsive and can handle anything from a short tempo run to a marathon. Excellent.

Insides Falling Apart after 24 miles
I've been a long time Altra customer but I'm very disappointed with the build of the escalante 3s. Inside both shoes, near the toe cap, the insides have begun peeling apart after only 24 miles.

I have every color.
I have plantar fasciitis and the Escalante 3 has been the best shoe at alleviating the pain and discomfort - no inserts or braces needed.

My second favorite Escalante
I have these for all my runs right now. For me, the 2& 2.5 versions were a bit narrow. Nice room in the 3.0. Downside: the stack height is getting a bit think. Can't beat the originals!

First Pair of Altras. Disappointed
Had these for a little over two months. Only taken on 5 runs. Good toe-box, cushion, & heel/toe drop. But tread has already started peeling off. As my first pair of Altras, I wanted to like these.

Best shoe experience ever!
I can't express how much I've enjoyed these shoes. I've put 974 miles on my first pair and I'm back to get another. I run 40-60 miles a week in these. My feet never hurt and they have held up in the wet Eugene, OR weather. The tread has almost worn out but not bad at all after this many miles. I'm stoked to get a fresh pair to wear in my next thousand miles! Thanks Altra.

I would buy this product again
Great shoe. Use it for running, walking and everyday around town. My feet need a wide toe box and this fits the bill.

Just Love It
I'm not in the normal demographic for this brand of shoe. Read the great Wirecutter review on this model last fall, bought a pair, fell in love, and I just bought pair #7. As I work from home they are my everyday shoe. Sorry to hear the 3 is being phased out. The color combos on most of them are awesome. Just love these things. Zero drop FTW!
