Get away from the crowds and kick back in a light, simple chair.

The ALPS Mountaineering Getaway Chair does everything but massage your feet after a day on the coastal trails. You’ll have to bribe members of your party to do that. Maybe even let them have turns sitting in your chair for a minute.

Not the best but far from the worst

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

OK. First off - the mesh material is going to be scratchy. It's not a soft-feel material or fabric but a woven/molded plastic mesh.

The frame work feels solid and should hold up over time. I have other camping chairs that I prefer over this one because of the fabric material of the chair. This ALPS chair does sit lower than many others. And the backrest is a bit more reclined - somebody mentioned if fells like a Lazy-Boy chair. Good analogy.

If you have hip or back or other joint problems and getting out of a chair can be a bit hard for you, stay away. You'll need help to get out almost every time.

Folds up small and compact and the gear pocket (cooler?!?) in one arm and the cup-holder in the other are bonus features that all chairs SHOULD have.

The bag is bigger than the folded chair (at least mine is) and so it's easy to pack the chair up and store away. Other chairs I've had over the years barely fit back in the storage bag.

Overall, a decent chair - maybe a B-minus. Not the most comfy, but should hold up over time without issue - as long as you don't beat the chairs up too much.

Not the best but far from the worst

    Keep it in the truck

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I pretty much have this chair with me all the time. Small enough that it doesn't take up too much space but offers great comfort or convenience when you want it. The storage pouch can get in the way every once in a while but its not so bad

    Go-To Chair for Outdoor Comfort

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I LOVE THIS CHAIR. I really enjoy how low to the ground the chair is. I can put my feet out and the ground is my foot rest. The mesh is really nice and the side cooler is a great addition. I've taken this chair camping, to outdoor concerts and just use it in my backyard. It's a great chair at a great price too!

    Super comfy camp chairs

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Fantastic camp chairs. The cooler in the left arm is ingenious, the mesh material is nice and breathable on a hot day, and the low center of gravity makes them much less tippy on uneven surfaces. They are much more reclined than most camp chairs, but I actually prefer that now that I've tried them. I agree with Alec that the only downside of these chairs is that the headrest can slide off easily when packing/unpacking them from the sleeve. To me, that's no big deal and they remain well worth the price. Tempted to buy a few more just to have on hand, even though I don't "need" them.

    Comfortable chair

More comfortable than most chairs in this style. Drawback is the headrest portion of the chair comes on and off, the little plastic caps which protect the fabric are easily lost, keep an eye on them when setting up and taking down the chair.

      Cool concept, shitty quality

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

First the good: I love the low-to-ground seating, the full mesh seat is great for hot weather, cooler pocket is a neat idea, and the price was nice.

Now the bad: On the first camping trip I took them on (I bought 2), one of them got sand or gravel or something in the legs and will not fold all the way up. On the very first time I ever used it. WTF??? The other one folds up fine, but the zipper on the cooler pocket broke almost immediately. Also, the material feels like it's going to rip at any time. I have very little confidence in these chairs making it through another season.

      Lower is better!

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

One main thing I want to add to the reviews... lots of people's con to this chair is how low it is to the ground. At 6'1" I say it's a pro! Think about the numerous activities you do around camp - sitting around a fire ring and stoking it, working with the camp stove, organizing gear... for me I do all that at ground level. This chair keeps me sitting normally doing those activities instead of hunched over in a taller one. Yep, I just blew your mind.

      alps crushing again

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

But seriously, why spend more than double like other chairs on the site. I also own another Alps mountaineering chair which sparked the purchase of this one! well made, well thought out, half the price of the competitors. if you enjoy planting you butt on the beach, at a concert, in a parking lot after your favorite activity. this is the chair you will need.

      Great chair

Chair is very well put together and comfy. Only issue is sits pretty low to ground which is fine for me (5'2") but someone taller might not be as comfortable and be able to get in and out of it easy.

        perfect

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I am so happy with these chairs! I purchased two of each color. They are more comfortable than I expected. Guests love them. They are low to the ground but I find that to be more comfortable for my legs.

        Down Low

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times

These chairs are very comfortable, they sit slightly lower to the ground than i am used to. The cooler sleeve is awesome for not only holding beer, but your phone, or any other items you dont want to lose track of.
the folding mechanism gets a little bit clogged up in the sand.

        Outdoor Lazy Boy

I recently just picked up a set of these and they are AWESOME! I normally would buy the cheap chairs you can pick up anywhere but after using a high quality chair like this, I will never go back again. They are a little hard to get in the travel sleeve but they are not bulky at all. The side pocket is nice if you want to stash a couple extra beers, throw in your headlamp while you are around the fire, and pretty much anything. I will be picking more up soon. Highly recommended!

          Comfy

After all the positive reviews I decided to go with this chair. I had lost mine somewhere along the way and keep this in my car now. It’s pretty lightweight but impressively comfortable. Plus the little cooler built in adds to the appeal...comfort with cold beers. Simply amazing!

Does anyone know the weight of this chair?...

Does anyone know the weight of this chair? I like the dimensions and structure but weight would be a slight concern for me when kayaking and canoeing on weekend trips on shallow Missouri rivers.

            I hope this makes sense...
See the point where the arm rests meets the vertical post in the back. That section that holds the arm rest at a specific angle. My question is, does the arm rest slip down this easily. I don't like it when this happens, I like to set the arm rest where I have it and it stay there. It drives me nuts when they slip down and the arm rest is useless.
            thanks for any help.

This sounds strange, but I need to know if you can roll a basketball under this chair? I want to use this for a festival, but they do not allow higher chairs that you can "roll a basketball under".
