Classic Shell Jacket
The Alps & Meters Men's Classic Shell Jacket looks like a traditional alpine shell that skiers used to wear back when planks were wooden, but that doesn't mean that this is your grandpa's jacket. It might be styled for après affairs like commuting from lodges to pubs, but this alpine shell actually can tackle the ski resort. It's a waxed canvas shell lined in the same membrane that most modern ski shells have, and you can always re-wax the shell for long-lasting protection from winter's snow and three-season rain. A subtle powder skirt prevents snow from seeping through, but it won't distract you from enjoying days off the resort.

- Runs small
- Size Bought
- 5` 10"

A great quality item that reminds me of a Barbour jacket. However, I returned a large for an extra large. You can go to their web site for a sizing guide, which I did after getting the large.

Fit is very small

- 5` 11"

It really is an awesome jacket aside from the fit being off. I wear a size large in almost every brand I can think of so naturally, I thought I would be a size large in Alps & Meters. This turned out not to be the case - size large is more of a medium in my opinion. This jacket is awesome aside from the fitting issues. Amazing construction materials.

Unique Jacket; not for everyone
- I returned this product before using it
This jacket has a lot of unique design factors; the nostalgic choice of fabric, the leather trim, the bright orange lining with the reflective "Alps and Meters" logo and text on the lining in reflective letters. The pictures on the A&M website show the leather trim as much more of a light brown, when in fact, the trim is dark brown (as shown on the Backcountry site). Also, from the pictures available online, the jacket looks like it is a cruiser, or trucker, length jacket, when its length is actually comparable to the Burton Process Softshell, or the Patagonia Nano-Air. Curiously, the snow skirt is along the bottom of the jacket and not at the waist (unless this IS a trucker length jacket for people with exceptionally long torsos?), also the sleeves are not overly long, but I found them adequate. My only real complaint is that a jacket this long really needs to have a two way zipper; if it is intend to be an alpine shell, unzipping form the bottom would be helpful for sitting on the lift, accessing your pants pockets, or additional flexibility. It may also be surprising to see a price tag (originally selling for about $700) like this on a jacket made in Vietnam, but I leave that decision to my fellow shoppers. My review stars do NOT reflect the outstanding customer service from Backcountry, which is the best I have ever experienced from an online retailer! I have had loads of good customer service, even some great customer service! But, the level of support that Backcountry is offering is unprecedented. I was astonished at their commitment to customer satisfaction, and recommend them wholeheartedly.
