Why We Like The Alpina Alaska 75mm Backcountry Boot
The Alpina Alaska 75mm Backcountry Boot is bold, strong, and no-nonsense. Alpina modeled it on a burly hiking boot, with a tough leather and synthetic upper that protects our foot from the elements and endows the boot with a moderately stiff flex for plenty of control, uphill and down. For extra protection, Alpina integrated a waterproof and breathable Alpitex membrane into the boot, so extended tours don't leave our feet soaked, and also included Thinsulate insulation to keep our toes warm when we're making our way through wild woods and across untracked fields.

I use these boots at the resorts and in the back country. There not made for anything beefer than the Voile HD mountaineering 3 pin binding. If you use other bindings like the switchback or similar you might separate the toe from the boot. I ski very aggressive and hard in my boots over 100 days a season and never have had any issues. I usually get 2 seasons out of them before they get worn out. Although my wife has had the same pair for 7 years now and still working fine. So, it depends how much and how hard you use them. I highly recommend this boot to any good telemark 3 pin skier who skis in leather boots.

Blew out both toes
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
- Size Bought:
- 43

Th=ere are so few good 75mm boots out there anymore. They were very comfortable and I had great hopes. Unfortunately in the Grand Teton Back country both toes gave out. One separated from the leather. The other cracked at the base of the toe piece opening the toe area to snow and ice, I was not subjecting these to monster turns or anything unordinary. It was a long cold day back out. Contacted Alpina and they refused to do anything since they were just past the warranty period. Seemed like a great boot but they failed due to manufacturing inadequacies. These boots were probably used 12 times. Not happy with Alpina.
