While at first glance the Alite Designs Mantis Camp Chair might not accurately resemble a praying mantis, this chair is designed similarly to the aforementioned insect's notorious upright constitution, folded arms, and stationary prowl. Thanks to its collapsible design, this stability oriented chair is travel-friendly while the aluminum legs and rugged ripstop assure a lifetime of sitting.

- Q & A
- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
This chair packs super small which I really like, it is comfortable, light and easy to assemble and disassemble, store it again in its bag is easy as well; due to the frame comes separately we can machine wash it.
I did not give it 5 stars because the short space between the 4 legs gives it some unsteadiness and you could fall front if you sit wrong.
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
I picked two of these up to replace my "standard" folding camp chairs. The Alite Mantis chairs don't weigh much at all and are only slightly larger than a 1L Nalgene bottle with packed.
They go together quickly, and have a great semi-reclining position. Even though you are leaning back in chair when seated, they are very easy to get of, since the short front legs pivot on the ground when you lean forward, almost boosting you out of the chair.
The frame of these chairs is all aluminum, and they'll definitely hold up better than some other chairs of the same design that use plastic couplers to hold the poles together.
The seat material of the chairs is pretty tight, which made assembly difficult at first, but I find it a lot easier if you attach both sides of the lower seat area to the poles before attaching the back panel.
best in class
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
I've tried (most) and broken (some) of the other chairs in this genre, and I only weigh 145lbs. After using this chair for over a year now, I'm confident I'll be passing it on to my grandchildren. If you want a quality piece of kit to take everywhere, get one. You won't be sorry.
Hauling a lot of stuff around is no fun. This chair is great though because it's so small. The chair legs break down like tent poles so you can downsize from a giant chair to one that fits in a beach tote. I never want to haul around a huge chair when go to summer lawn concerts, but I'm stocked that this chair just fits in my bag (and sits low too so I'm not blocking anyone). The colors are fun too and super vibrant -- easy to find in a crowd.
small but sturdy
great for camping and rving.
What is the weight of the chair and bag combined?
