Have not used it. Hope not to.

I added this to my snowmobile emergency preparedness kit in case I have to unexpectedly spend the night in the backcountry.

I opted for the 2-person bivy because I was unwilling to risk being the only one with some sort of overnight warmth and didn't want to have the moral dilemma about how to handle that. This packs down to just a tiny bit larger than a can of beer and weighs less. Having it in your kit is a bit of a no-brainer here.

I recommend this to everyone who is going to go deep in the backcountry.

      Bug out bag must have!

So I haven't used it yet, but I know I won't regret having this when there's an emergency. I watched several video reviews about it and everyone says they start to get warm almost right away and it's very roomy for 2 people, and fairly easy to pack back up into the stuff sack. Happy to have this new addition to the bug out bag!

Bought it for a bug out bag

        • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Haven't used it yet but the size and weight are right to throw in and hopefully never have to use, though I may throw it in my pack now when I go into the backcountry.

Cirque of the Towers Traverse Snow Storm

        • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Did the Cirque of the Tower's traverse in the Wind River Range, WY a few weeks ago (mid August) and decided to bivy on a ledge for a few hours until the sun came up. The stars were out and there was little to no wind when we went to sleep, but in less than 2 hours awoke to a snow storm that lasted a good hour and a half. Although we got a bit cold, the SOL bivy definitely saved our asses and allowed us to continue the traverse once it blew over. Very happy with my purchase and will never leave for the mountains again without one. Fit two people comfortably. It did build up quite a bit of condensation from our breath inside the bivy which in turn got parts of our pant legs a little wet and cold. Overall this thing was a life saver.

Beer can that could save your life

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times

After being caught out in a winter storm one season I vowed to never go out into the backcountry again without an emergency bivvy. The SOL 2-person model is the size of a can of beer so there's really no excuse to not have it in your pack.

Having used this as a lightweight summertime camping blanket it does what it's designed to do by trapping heat. It does not deal with condensation well at all, but that's not what you have it for.

One last note, once you do open it, you'll never be able to get it back into the beer-can-sized packaging it comes in, no matter how hard you try!

        SOL 2 Person Bivvy

I wish they would say "reflects 90% of RADIATED body heat". We lose only about 5% of our body heat through radiation.

Hey I'll still take that 90% of 5%, the film adds almost no weight and can noticeably improve comfort, so why not. Seems like an excellent product, I just find this BS marketing a pet peeve.. All the emergency blanket companies make the same false claim, but that's no excuse..
