Stability and grip for long, technical approaches.
The Adidas Outdoor Men's Terrex Scope GTX Hiking Shoe offers reliable grip and stability as you approach remote crags or scramble over jagged trails and loose rocks. This technical approach shoe uses a waterproof and breathable Gore-Tex membrane to keep your feet dry and comfortable in the wettest of conditions.
The OrthoLite insole wicks sweat away from your foot with its open-cell structure for superior moisture management, while the AdiPrene heel cushioning absorbs shock for a more comfortable trek over rough terrain. Using a Stealth rubber outsole originally developed by climbing shoe manufacturer Five Ten, the Terrex Scope GTX securely grips wet, slippery surfaces, ensuring you won't slip en route to your climbing destination. In addition, this shoe has an asymmetric heel loop, allowing you to clip it to a carabiner and attach it to a harness when you climb.

Great Shoe. The Outsole outperforms the rest, although Stealth Rubber is used on many hiking and approach shoes these days. This shoe is ridged and stiff yet very supportive and comfy plus extremely element resistant, water and snow can not get in and the feet stay dry. True to size for fit. If you need a hiker for short to mid distances or a great all-round approach shoes this is the one for you.
Only shoe that fit my foot
- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
I had a difficult time finding an approach shoe that fit my foot. I belong to a Search and Rescue team in a National Park that sees us hiking over relatively flat terrain as well as climbing to reach climbers in trouble. I needed something I could hike in as well as grip the boulders. Everyone told me to get 5.10 Guide Teenies but they were too narrow. I really like my Merrells for hiking around and for long searches and while sticky, they weren't quite sticky enough for my comfort. I talked to the 5.10/Adidas rep at a climbing clinic and he gave me some demo Terrex GTX's to try out. I had had success with Adidas running and basketball shoes as long as I went a half size larger and the GTX's felt comfortable right from the get go. I wore them the rest of that day and all day the next day taking time to scramble around some boulders and walk down some steep inclines. The shoes felt great the whole time and had amazing grip. Haven't had a chance to take them out for a long hike yet but expect they'll do fine do to their aggressive tread. Don't need the Gore-Tex much here in the desert but we do occasionally have the monsoon rains and have had long searches in the rain. Glad I could find something that finally fit well and was versatile enough for my needs.
