The trails you prefer to run are fast, smooth, and relatively painless, something that the Salomon Men's Sense Pro 3 Trail Running Shoe was also born to appreciate. The Sense SG for the rest of us!
- Size Bought: went down to 10.5 from 11
- Height: 6'1"
- Weight: 174lbs
The new sense pro 3 is designed for rugged technical trails. I love these for trail running in the rain and mud as the soft ground sole really digs in and provides the traction and grip needed to really push it in less than ideal conditions. These are very comparable to the sense SG, 4mm drop and SG sole and even the sense 6 upper with a bit more overlays for durability and protection, but the sense pro 3 offers a little more cushion and protection that is great for training and racing. The fit was a little on the large side and I had to go down a half size for a really dialed in Salomon fit, the sock liner really keeps my foot in place. This is a very different shoe than the sense pro 2, but I really enjoy this version as it fills a new role as an aggressive training shoe with a low heel drop and very durable sole and upper. So far I am super happy with the Sense Pro 3 and look forward to crushing icy and muddy trails through the winter in them!

(Spiritual) Successor of the Sense 6 SG
- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
- Fit: True to size
This shoes seems to be the direct successor of the S-Labs Sense 6 SG. It may just be the technology that transferred, but it seems to me to be the exact same shoe (albeit slightly heavier) for $50 less. So that makes me happy! My favorite training and racing shoe - it's a perfect fit for my narrow feet. Similarly to the previous reviewer, I wish they had a non soft-ground (SG) version with smaller lugs for hard-packed dirt.
Great addition to the Salomon line up
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
- Fit: True to size
- Size Bought: 11.5
- Height: 5'10"
- Weight: 147lbs
I was a bit hesitant to get these since I didn't like any iteration of the Salomon Sense Pro 2. I've been an avid user of the Salomon S/Lab Sense 4, 5 and 6, but after my last mountain run more was needed underfoot so I decided to give the Pro 3's a try. One bonus is they lowered the drop to 4mm.
They tighten a little higher on the ankle than previous versions and this has come in really handy to keep the fit snug. This definitely helps on lateral stability as well. They are lighter and more streamlined with a better cleat than previous iterations which really comes in handy in the technical sections. Salomon also reworked the lacing to allow the tensioner to work more effectively. All in all a win win.
I just used them on a long tough day for the 28k Rut Run at Big Sky Resort and they could not have performed better. The run is about as technical as it gets and while some other runners were sliding around in the scree these held firm.
Absolute love them. If I could change one thing it would be to make the cleat a little less high. Somewhere between where it is and the XA Alpine.
