    Great vest for long runs!

Once I began trail running, I realized I could no longer get away with not bringing water or nutrition with me on runs. Working for Salomon, I've had the opportunity to try many different packs. The Advanced Skin 12 holds a bit more gear, and is a go-to for longer runs.

Checkout the video below for more details on the Advanced Skin Set!

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I've owned a few different light weight trail packs but this one takes the cake. Its just so well thought out and the weight distribution is perfect. If you have any issues with bounce make sure you're utilizing the load straps. Personally use it for everything, its light enough and cinches down well for the quick run and expands to well for longer days.

Great vest for long days in the mountain

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I really like this vest for longer trail runs. When packed correctly, this vest holds all you need. The pockets are tight on it, making things hard to get to but reduces the chance of things falling out. Fit is great, zero bouncing and good adjustments. great buy.

      Pack that Actually Fits!

      • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

My fiance struggled to find a pack that tightened down enough to avoid the bounce but that could also hold the gear she carriers for long trail runs. This is doing the trick for her! Only negative from her perspective is maybe one too many pockets - just enough to forget where you stashed your chapstick.

      awesome

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This pack has everything I've ever wanted in an everyday use hike pack. For someone that enjoys running the trails after work it has turned out great and performed as well as I could have hoped. It clings to your body which greatly reduces bouncing and weight shifting. Yet it has enough room for food, water and an extra layer or two for the summit. Highly recommended to the trail seekers and outdoor enthusiasts

      So happy with this vest

This vest is my first ever hydration pack! I couldn't have made a better selection. The vest fits nicely and allows me to adjust as needed for a stable fit. There isn't a lot of extra bulk and i can remove the bladder/bottles depending on the type of activity i am using it for. It is lightweight, comfortable and has storage for just about anything. If you are wanting a "do it all" vest, i would go with this one !!

        AWESOME!!!

        • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I'd been searching for the right "big day" running vest for a while and am so happy the search is over!
The fit alone sets the Salomon apart from Camp, U.D. and Osprey. The all round stretchy fabric moves with you and not against.
Easy access to most of the pockets without removing the vest is awesome. The soft bottles included are some of the nicer I've used yet as well.
Pros: Fit is amazingly comfortable. Easy to adjust as well to suit your run better, I was easily able to carry poles and my DSLR in the vest and it didn't feel weird or bounce.
Quick access to all your goodies, aside from the kangaroo pocket on the back I could reach everything easily. the zippered side pockets will fit a large cellphone with some work..
Cons: It needs to be washed every other run... well maybe thats just me.
The soft bottles are hard to put back in with the new front slash pockets, it now takes 2 hands vs the older version.
I would like it if Salomon would offer it without the blanket, bottles etc. After years of gear use I end up with tons of spare bottles and don't really need any more.

All in all this vest is amazing! From light training runs to 20+ miles of gear intensive adventure this vest will do just about all of it.

        Almost Perfect

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times

tl;dr spoiler alert - the star is docked because the vest doesn't come with a bladder

So I debated about this vest for over 2 years before finally buying, and I'm only glad I waited because I think this season's version is the best iteration thus far, thanks to the new closure clips.

The vest wears like a second skin, as the name implies, keeping all of your items taut and close to your center of mass and restricting bouncing amazingly well, even when loaded with 2.5L of water. I recently wore the vest without a shirt on a 20 mile hike, where we ran about 5 of the downhill miles, and I don't have any blisters or hot spots at all. That, in and of itself, is what makes a good running vest great.

Tons of storage. Tons. I feel an ultralight overnight coming, just as soon as a free weekend arises. Assuming a campsite next to a water source, I could bring a hammock / sleeping pad and a light bag no problem, along with nutrition and first aid. If you're a tarp tent camper, you could easily bring a tarp too.

Ample pockets from big to small, from accessible while running to the zippered closure on the back that can only be opened with the pack off. Organization is not an issue, once you figure out your own personalized setup.

Comes with a whistle, a space blanket for emergencies, and a reservoir sleeve for keeping water cooler. It does not, however, come with a reservoir. Which, for a vest at this price, is a little ridiculous. I wanted to use a 1.5L Camelback reservoir I had, but the tube comes out of the Camelback angled up, back towards my head. This vest is built to route the tube down and out the side of the pack, then through eyelets on the right shoulder strap up towards the mouth. So, my Camelback tube kinks, and I can't drink out of it. C'mon Salomon, if you're going to make it that specific, charge the extra $$$ up front and include the reservoir from the get-go. Just my $0.02

So just know, if you're gonna buy this and hope to use an extra reservoir you already have lying around, it's designed for tubes that angle downward or to the side, not pointed back up to port out of top of a pack.

It's not a deal breaker by any stretch, just an annoyance on an otherwise stellar product.

I am trying to decide between the Salamon ADV skin 5L vs the 12L. My issues is that I live in Texas and heat is an issue with me. Although my ultimate goal is to run Imogene pass in CO in September. I’m looking fo a great training vest here plus will do great on the 17.5 mile race.

Hey Annette, mt immediate response to this question is that you can always pack less in more volume than pack more in a pack that is not equip to carry more. There are also a few other packs that nestle in nicely between this size range from 8-10L. Feel free to reach out to me directly if you have any other questions via the information listed above.
