    For fast and smooth trails.

The trails you prefer to run are fast, smooth, and relatively painless, something that the Salomon Men's Sense Pro 2 Trail Running Shoe was also born to appreciate. With a respectable weight, moderate amount of EVA and Ortholite cushioning, and quick-drying mesh upper, the Sense Pro 2 is well equipped to handle packed trails and frontcountry loops, and features a Sensifit construction for a killer fit that avoids blisters, hotspots, and discomfort. The Contragrip sole sinks its teeth into everything from packed-out trails to slick rocks to powdery dust, while the Energycell midsole offers supreme cushioning and excellent rebound to keep your feet stoked and moving fast.

I have worn these Salomons for the past year and I have absolutely loved them. I have worn them in multiple 50k's and a 50 miler and they held up great for both of those distances. My dad also uses these in his 100 mile races and they rock for him. These are slightly narrow, so if you have wider feet, I would recommend you get some Altra Lone Peaks.

I've really enjoyed taking this shoe out in the New England hills this fall, and with about 120mi. on these in the last two months I can say they've earned a place in my dry-season quiver. Right out of the box they worked extremely well to fit the gap opened by a few Pearl Izumi trail shoes that I'd blown out and were (gasp) irreplaceable. On runs from 4-12 miles the Sense Pro's really earned their keep, though much longer than that, especially when there's some dirt road or doubletrack mixed in, the protection isn't quite enough. I was originally hoping to run in this shoes at distances up to 50kms for training and racing, but given my weight and imperfect biomechanics I think I'll hold them for shorter distances.

All of the shoes in the Sense line feel wicked fast on buffed-out singletrack, and the drop in the Sense Pro's puts you up on your toes both uphill and down. They're wonderful for tempo workouts and just focusing on form. The heel, being a little stiffer, isn't quite as forgiving when I over-stride. The fit, however, isn't quite as dialed as in the S-Lab Sense or Wings -- not sure why this is. My foot slips a bit when I get onto steeper, more technical downhills, although the Contagrip rubber (even with the small lugs) is very tacky and useful on technical, steep ground.

As a comparison, these do find a good home in the rotation, somewhere alongside the old Montrail Rogue Fly/Racer and the Pearl Izumi N1's. Perhaps the shoe they feel closest to is the old Brooks Green Silence, or the Saucony road flats of late.

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I recently purchased these shoes and so far I have no complaints. I have gone trail running 3 times for 5+ miles and my feet felt great afterwards. The additional toe box is perfect for my wider feet. It snowed in the mountains the other day and I was running through the mud and slush and once the trail cleared up, the shoes dried quickly. I have had several pairs of running shoes and I have to say I'm always really impressed with Salomon.

    Love the shoes

These are great shoes. The comfort is great and support has been really good. The heel could be a bit stiffer but overall pretty good. The soles have good grip on trails. They are true to size and have a nice width it the toe box.

This season I've decided to convert my ski touring mentality to the trails. That being said, a trail run is only as good as the kicks on your feet - with ill fitting or bulky shoes I feel hampered down, or in pain.

These fit like a glove out of the box - perfect sizing - i wear a 9.5, bought a 9.5 - fits perfect.

The closure/lacing is simple and hassle free - tighten em up, tuck away the closure and you wont have to deal with it until you are back at home/car. Wont untie, or tangle, and keeps closed/tight the whole way.

These things have a little drop which is great for the uphill, but they are not bulky by any means. The feel really low profile and glide along the trail.

I'm beginning to see the pleasure in the whole trail running thing, primarily thanks to these shoes.

Another solid trail shoe from Salomon

I recently purchased these shoes and I'm surprised there weren’t reviews posted yet so I figured I’d share my thoughts…
This is my 5th or 6th pair of Salomon’s. For me, Salomon’s Sense line of shoes fit my feet perfectly and feel the way running shoes should. The Sense Pro 2’s definitely are my favorite so far. I purchased these shoes b/c i'm retiring my Salomon Sense Mantra's, after about 600 miles of service. I really loved my Mantra’s b/c of the fit, feel, and impressive durability. I chose to go with the Sense Pro 2 b/c of its similarities to the Mantra. The Sense Pro 2 is similar but has key differences that make it a better shoe in my opinion.
First I want to note that I've put just over 40 miles in these shoes so far. I mostly run rolling single track trails with plenty of roots with some granite and sandstone throughout. These shoes have a great ride with softer feel when compared to the Mantra. The toe box seems almost the same as the Mantra, maybe slightly more snug. My first run, ~7 miles, produced 2 blisters. One on my small toe and one just behind the ball of my foot at the front end of the arch from the endo-fit feature of the shoe. This definitely surprised me b/c I rarely get blisters. Luckily, this has not happened since.
I really like the new tread pattern on the Sense Pro 2. Although I mostly run on trails, occasionally I’ll run on stretches of pavement between trails. The new tread pattern is not noisy at all on the pavement and b/c of the increased size, they will definitely resist wear. Although I didn’t have durability issues with the Mantra’s, the Sense Pro 2 seems like they will be better.
Overall, these shoes feel amazing when trail running while providing a secure fit for technical trails with Salomon’s solid tread pattern to keep you moving down the trail.

Which last are these built on? Is it the same as the X Alp Carbon GTX?
